San Francisco 49ers RBs Tevin Coleman Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida, Jeffery Wilson and Raheem Mostert will ultimately decide who plays and how much each one plays, according to comments made by head coach Kyle Shanahan on the Adam Schefter podcast recently. 'Everyone keeps asking me that like I'm in charge of that or something,' Shanahan said with a laugh. 'It's up to the players. They will define their roles. That's kind of what's unique about this.'
Fantasy Spin: The common assumption since Coleman signed in March was that he would probably handle more carries than anyone else in this backfield in 2019, but it could easily be argued Breida was more impressive in 2018 than Coleman was at any point during his time with Shanahan in Atlanta. It is shaping up to be an unpredictable backfield, although McKinnon's role as the pass-catching back - assuming he is recovered from his ACL injury - would seem to be the most secure.
The San Francisco 49ers agreed to terms on a three-year, $8.7 million deal with running back Raheem Mostert on Saturday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal will include $3 million guaranteed. Mostert spent the last two years with San Fran, compiling 40 rushing attempts, 291 yards and a touchdown in 20 games. He'll be buried on the depth chart behind Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida and newly-signed Tevin Coleman, so Mostert is unlikely to have any fantasy value.
San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman is expected to lead what could be a group of four active running backs on game days this season. Coleman and fellow RBs Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert would comprise the foursome.
Fantasy Spin: It's an admirable group, but this could be a nuisance for fantasy purposes. Coleman is the running back to own in San Francisco, but McKinnon and company really limit his ceiling. Both Coleman and McKinnon still possess PPR RB2 upside.
Free-agent RB Raheem Mostert re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on Friday, March 15, agreeing to a three-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers restricted free-agent RB Raheem Mostert received the original-round tender offer, according to a source.
San Francisco 49ers restricted free-agent RB Raheem Mostert received a tender offer Thursday, March 7.
San Francisco 49ers restricted free-agent RB Raheem Mostert likely will receive a tender offer this offseason and could even receive a multi-year extension from the team.
San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (forearm) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Nov. 2
Fantasy Spin: With Mostert out of action, Matt Breida and Alfred Morris will shoulder the load for the running game. Breida's versatility gives him the higher ceiling, and he should be a useful RB3 going forward.
Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (forearm) fractured his right forearm during the team's Week 9 win over the Oakland Raiders and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
Fantasy Spin: This is no surprise given how awful the injury looked on TV. Moving forward, look for Matt Breida and Alfred Morris to see more touches with Breida looking like a viable RB3 and Morris as a possible stash option in case Breida continues to struggle with his health. As for Mostert, he can dropped in all single-year leagues.
San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (arm) exited the Week 9 game against the Oakland Raiders and had his right forearm put in a brace. Mostert had seven carries for 86 yards and a touchdown before exiting.
Fantasy Spin: Mostert had some flex appeal with Matt Breida playing through an ankle injury, but it looks like Mostert may have a suffered a serious injury himself.
San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert (arm) left the game early after suffering a gruesome arm injury in the third quarter on Thursday night against the Raiders. Mostert clearly broke his arm trying to brace himself and was immediately put in an air cast. We'd be shocked if Mostert isn't out for the rest of the season. The good news is that those that were brave enough to start him were rewarded, as he ran seven times for 86 yards and a touchdown before the injury. In Mostert's absence moving forward, it means more work for Matt Breida and Alfred Morris, with Breida being the better fantasy option.
San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) is officially active for the team's Week 9 game.
San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) is expected to play Thursday, Nov. 1, against the Oakland Raiders, according to a source.
Fantasy Spin: Mostert being active essentially renders Kendrick Bourne inferior. Look for Matt Breida and Mostert to see most of the playing time out of the backfield and continue to stay away from the unreliable Alfred Morris.
San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert (ankle) was a massive disappointment in Week 8, touching the ball only twice and playing 12 of 66 snaps. Mostert is now questionable in Week 9 against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are amongst the worst run defenses in the NFL and just ceded 222 rush yards in Week 8 to the Indianapolis Colts. Mostert is a tempting start if he is active, but its clear a hobbled Matt Breida (ankle) is the lead dog in the Niners backfield committee. At risk of another goose egg, Mostert is just a flex option for owners in need of a bye-week replacement.
San Francisco 49ers CB Antone Exum (concussion), LB Reuben Foster (hamstring) and S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 31 and they are each ruled out for Week 9 against the Oakland Raiders on Thursday, Nov. 1. QB C.J. Beathard (wrist), RB Matt Breida (ankle), WR Pierre Garcon (shoulder, knee), RB Raheem Mostert (ankle), C Weston Richburg (knee) and CB Richard Sherman (calf, heel) were limited in practice and listed as questionable. OL Mike Person (ankle), and OT Joe Staley (ankle) practiced in full and were removed from the report.
San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 31 and officially listed as questionable for the Week 9 game against the Oakland Raiders on Thursday, Nov. 1.
Fantasy Spin: Mostert had a golden opportunity to play a large role with Matt Breida also banged up and questionable. If both are limited or unable to go, it might be Alfred Morris shouldering the workload. The entire San Francisco is a mess for fantasy purposes.
San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Fantasy Spin: Despite Matt Breida playing with an ankle injury, Mostert managed just two touches in Week 8. He has some value as a handcuff to Breida, but Mostert can be left on the bench as long as he is the backup.
San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, Oct. 29. The 49ers did not hold a practice Monday, so this is an estimation.
Fantasy Spin: Mostert was held to only 18 yards in the last game and will continue to see limited touches as long as Matt Breida is able to play. Owners in all leagues can keep Mostert on the bench for Week 9.
San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert tallied just 18 yards on two carries in Week 8, missing his lone target. Mostert was expected to have a role even with Matt Breida (ankle) active so this was a major disappointment for all affected fantasy owners. Mostert didnt register a touch until midway through the third quarter. After playing a pivotal part in the offense over the past two games, Mosterts lack of usage was a confounding setback. Even with the 49ers facing an Oakland Raiders defense in Week 9 that was just punished for 222 rushing yards by the Indianapolis Colts, Mostert is no better than a backend flex play.
San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert is primed for the largest workload of his four-year career in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. With Matt Breidas (ankle) status increasingly dubious, Mostert should lead the Niners backfield in snaps and touches. Mostert has racked up 165 yards in 23 touches over the last two weeks spelling the battered Breida and outperforming a slogging Alfred Morris. The 49ers offensive line is fourth in adjusted line yards per carry (4.9) and face a Cardinals defense that allows a league-worst 148.3 yards per game. A history of fumbling issues is his biggest risk. Consider him a high-end RB3.
