The San Francisco 49ers Defense eliminated any doubts about their weekly fixture in fantasy lineups by recording five sacks, four turnovers and one touchdown against the vaunted Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. Theyre pitted against another division rival in Week 11 versus the Arizona Cardinals. Cardinals rookie quarterback Kyler Murray surprisingly diced up the Niners in their Week 9 matchup, limiting the defense to their only turnover-free game of 2019. Even with Murrays ascension, the season-long havoc the Niners have wreaked make them a must-start. With the leagues best pass rush and Arizonas porous offensive line, fire up the unit with confidence.

Nov 12 12:50am ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense played exceptionally well in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks despite taking the loss. The Niners defense confirmed its dominance against MVP candidate quarterback Russell Wilson, bagging five sacks and recovering three fumbles including a touchdown return by defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. Rookie linebacker Dre Greenlaw picked off Wilson in overtime and put the team in position to win, but kicker Chase McLaughlin shanked the potential game-winning kick. Even with the loss, the 49ers remain an unquestionable weekly must-start and should be a top-five fantasy defense in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Nov 7 3:20pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense will face its most challenging test to-date in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks. Although the Niners have stifled most quarterbacks this season, Seahawks quarterback and potential MVP candidate Russell Wilson is not like the rest. The 49ers relatively weaker run defense was exposed for 153 yards in Week 9 so will need to be buttoned up to prevent getting gashed by play action. Nonetheless, the pass rush is still the best in the league and the defense ranks 2nd overall by DVOA. Having earned weekly fantasy starting status with by repeatedly posting dominant performance, San Francisco isnt an advisable bench. But Monday nights matchup has the makings of a shootout.

Nov 1 2:40pm ET

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander (pectoral) suffered a torn pectoral on Thursday night and will miss the rest of the season, according to a source. In eight games in 2019, Alexander had 34 tackles, half a sack, one forced fumble and an interception as one of the better all-around linebackers in the league. His loss will be felt, but San Francisco's elite defense should still remain a strong starting unit for fantasy owners moving forward.

The San Francisco 49ers Defense surrendered 25 points in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals but escaped with a narrow 28-25 victory. The second-ranked defense by DVOA allowed new Cardinals running back Kenyan Drake to amass 162 scrimmage yards and atypically permitted several big plays, including an 88-yard catch-and-run by rookie wideout Andy Isabella in the fourth quarter. The pass rush harassed quarterback Kyler Murray for three crippling sacks but the defense did little else. After a dominant four-game run, the relatively weaker rush defense was exposed for 153 ground yards and possibly losing linebacker Kwon Alexander (chest) long term. The Niners have earned weekly set-and-forget fantasy status but will draw another tricky matchup in Week 10 against All-Pro quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.

Oct 30 6:40pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense should keep rolling in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals. After routing the Carolina Panthers 51-13 last Sunday, the Niners draw the inexperienced and banged up Cardinals led by rookie Kyler Murray. The 49ers have transformed into a matchup-proof defense in 2019, ranking second in DVOA and boasting the leagues top pass rush per Football Outsiders. Murrays flashed both his upside and inconsistency this year and the Cardinals have faded hard when falling behind early. As 10-point favorites, expect the Niners to dominate time of possession on Thursday and the defense to give the Cardinals nightmares all evening.

Oct 27 7:40pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense manhandled the Carolina Panthers in Week 8, bagging seven sacks and three interceptions in a 51-13 rout. Rookie defensive end Nick Bosa led the way with three sacks and a pick, as the Niners dominated overmatched Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen all day. Sitting pretty with a 7-0 record, the Niners defense continues its impressive ability to control game script and force turnovers. Theyll be a must-start in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football.

Oct 25 8:30pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense is safe to fire up as a fantasy defensive unit in Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers. Led by the best defensive line according to Football Outsiders, the Niners have bagged 20 sacks and 13 takeaways during their undefeated start to 2019. The visiting Panthers boast a promising 4-2 record but their offense ranks bottom third in the NFL. Tasked with protecting inexperienced quarterback Kyle Allen, a subpar offensive line could struggle against the Niners mean front. Start with confidence.

The San Francisco 49ers Defense continued its dominant run, shutting out the Washington Redskins in Week 7. Aided by a wet field, the Niners limited the Skins to 154 meaningless yards, collecting three sacks and recovering a fumble in the process. A driving force behind the teams undefeated start, San Franciscos defensive unit continues to take care of business and serve notice to the football community. Theyve evolved into a weekly must-start fantasy squad. The Carolina Panthers await in Week 8.

Oct 18 1:00am ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense should continue their dominant run in Week 7 against the Washington Redskins. Entering the contest as the second-best defense by DVOA, the Niners should wreak havoc against quarterback Case Keenum and the woeful Skins. Operating as heavy favorites, the defense should steer Washington away from its stagnant run game and put constant pressure on an offensive line thats allowed 15 sacks. Facing one of the sloppier teams in the NFL, the 49ers make for a premium defensive unit this Sunday.

Oct 11 11:10am ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense enters Week 6 as the second-best defense by DVOA. Even against the vaunted Los Angeles Rams offense, the Niners unit is a start-worthy fantasy option. The defensive line has wreaked havoc all season, bagging 13 sacks and forcing 11 turnovers. Rams quarterback Jared Goff has been shaky in 2019, committing 10 turnovers, presenting a ripe opportunity for the Niners to continue making plays. Despite being underdogs this coming Sunday, the Niners have earned weekly consideration in all fantasy formats.

Oct 8 12:50am ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense dominated the Cleveland Browns in Week 5s 31-3 blowout victory. The Niners intercepted Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield twice and recovered two fumbles. Taking advantage of a leaky offensive line, the Niners bagged four sacks including two by rookie defensive end Nick Bosa. San Francisco made this one easy, picking off Mayfield on the very first drive and wreaking havoc all game. One of the most impressive turnarounds this season, the Niners defense has emerged as a fantasy force. The team will face its toughest test in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams, but the 49ers defensive unit cant be ignored as a weekly top-12 option.

From RotoBaller

Oct 4 8:50pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense has been one of the biggest positive surprises to start the season. After an awful showing last season, the Niners have accumulated nine sacks and forced seven turnovers in three games, recording two touchdowns. The team enters Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns as the second-best defense by DVOA with strong grades against both the run and pass. Facing a leaky Browns offensive line, the Niners could cause havoc on Monday night. Tee them up as a usable defensive unit in Week 5.

From RotoBaller

Oct 3 10:00pm ET

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jimmie Ward (finger) will return from surgery on his broken finger in Week 5 on Monday night against the Browns. Ward can help at any position in the defensive backfield, giving the Niners more depth and versatility. The 28-year-old defensive back has trouble staying healthy and has yet to play this year. He's not an IDP target, but his return is good news for a team that has improved drastically on defense through three games. San Fran's defense/special teams will be a streaming option on Monday night at home against the Browns.

Sep 24 1:20am ET

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (foot) is expected to miss at least a month with a foot sprain, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Emmanuel Moseley will be first in line to replace Witherspoon, but a competition with Jason Verrett and others will take place. San Francisco's secondary will need to step up. Luckily they'll have a Week 4 bye to figure things out before being tested by Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr. on Monday night in Week 5. The Browns could have their way with San Fran's secondary in that matchup.

Sep 22 11:40pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers Defense showed up in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, helping the team remain undefeated. The Niners offense committed five turnovers but the defense played exceptionally well, recording two sacks and forcing two turnovers (one interception, one fumble recovery). Aside from a 76-yard touchdown catch-and-run by Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, the defense harassed unproven quarterback Mason Rudolph all day and kept the scuffling offense in the game. Through three contests, the 49ers defense has improved noticeably and could be a deep streamer in Week 5 against a leaky Cleveland Browns offensive line after emerging from their bye week.

From RotoBaller

Sep 20 5:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive end Nick Bosa (ankle) and defensive end Dee Ford (knee, quadriceps) are both questionable for Week 3 against the Steelers. Also questionable are safety Jaquiski Tartt (toe) and free safety Jimmie Ward (hand, finger). Bosa and Ford both should suit up in this one, but they could both have their snaps limited, which makes them ones to avoid in IDP leagues. Bosa has been effective when on the field so far in his rookie season and the Niners defense has been much improved up front through two weeks. They'll be worth starting in fantasy in Week 3 against quarterback Mason Rudolph, who will be making his first NFL start.

Sep 17 2:00pm ET

NBC Sports Bay Areas Brian Witt believes the San Francisco 49ers should do whatever it takes to pursue Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The Pro Bowl corner requested a trade on Monday and the Niners could be a great fit. With veteran cornerback Richard Sherman locking down one side, the addition of Ramsey would be a significant upgrade to the inconsistent Akhello Witherspoon or oft-injured Jason Verrett. The Jaguars are asking for at least a first-round pick and the Niners are already without their 2020 second-round selection, but Ramsey is just 24 and a proven NFL asset. With Ramsey and the emergence of rookie defensive end Nick Bosa, the 49ers would instantly vault into a fantasy-caliber defense. Even with defensive end Dee Ford (quad) banged up, the Niners may be a worthy streamer at home in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, with or without Ramsey.

From RotoBaller

Sep 15 12:00pm ET

San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive end Nick Bosa (ankle) is active in Week 2 against the Bengals. Bosa had his snaps limited in his NFL debut last week against the Buccaneers, but when he was on the field he was productive, so his presence on Sunday won't be good news for quarterback Andy Dalton in front of a shaky offensive line. Bosa cannot yet be trusted in IDP leagues as the Niners try to get him past his nagging ankle issue. While San Fran's D looked much-improved last week, they also shouldn't be in fantasy lineups just yet.
