2020 RTSports Outlook

Mariota found his way to the bench for the first time in his career, getting benched in Week 6. He got a handful of snaps the rest of the season, but watched Ryan Tannehill have a huge season as the starter for the Titans. Mariota had his struggles before the finding his way to the bench. He did have two three-touchdown games but also three games with no scores. Mariota just has no progressed as expected since entering the NFL in 2015. A change of scenery could be a positive for Mariota, but nothing is a given with him going forward after his play the last few seasons. He might be best suited as an NFL backup, a role he will serve with the Raiders this year. Mariota has good size, a great arm and can make plays on the move. He can make all the throws and also runs well at the position. Turnovers are an issue, though, and he still looks indecisive in the pocket.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mariota always has potential when starting because he can get some yards on the ground in addition to having some success throwing the ball. But even with the said, he won't score much and turnovers are a concern. He is not worth a roster spot at the moment until he starts showing promise on the field once again.

RotoBaller's Outlook

After a breakout 2016 season in which he threw for 26 touchdowns to only nine interceptions, quarterbackMarcus Mariota has done nothing to prove he can repeat these numbers. Since then, he has combined for 24 TD and 23 INT. Last season, while dealing with injuries to his leg and arm, he only amassed 2,528 pass yards with 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. We are still waiting for a breakout from wide receiver Corey Davis and at this point, it looks less and less likely it will happen. Even in his best season in 2016, Mariota only attempted 451 passes and this type of low volume offense does not produce a solid fantasy quarterback, or even one who is worth drafting. With Derrick Henry looking to have a bigger role, the run game is going to take precedence over the passing game even further. Henry is not a pass-catcher. He is a bruising inside-the-tackles running back. He will require 20 to 25 rush attempts a game and with a slow offense and a defense-first head coach, the offense does not look to be in store for a bright future.Mariota is entering a make-or-break season with the Titans. If he has another bad year, he may be moving to another team in 2020. While it is unusual for a team to let go of a quarterback so young, it could happen if Tennessee feels like one of the quarterbacks in next years draft will get them to the next level in a strengthening division. If you are not playing in a two-quarterback or Superflex league, Marcus Mariota is a solid no-go as a draft pick as his ceiling is severely limited by the offense and he does not have a reasonable pathway to be a starting fantasy QB.

Las Vegas Raiders QBs Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota have general manager Mike Mayock feeling 'really good about the quarterback position,' according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

From TheHuddle

Apr 14 7:40pm ET

Las Vegas Raiders general manager Mike Mayock said that, "We feel really good about the quarterback position" heading into next week's draft. Quarterback Derek Carr quietly had one of his better seasons in 2019, but the Raiders brought in Marcus Mariota in free agency as a fallback option in case Carr can't improve the offense even more going forward. Mayock also said, "We need to get better at wideout." Las Vegas will have a shot at one of the top QB prospects with two picks (No. 12, No. 19) in the first round, but it sounds like they could ignore signal-caller and go after one of the top receivers in an excellent draft class for the position. Tyrell Williams, Nelson Agholor and Hunter Renfrow are the team's top three wideouts as of right now.

Free-agent QB Marcus Mariota (Titans) officially signed with the Las Vegas Raiders Wednesday, March 25. Official terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The Oakland Raiders agreed to an undisclosed deal with former Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota on Monday night. Mariota was benched before Week 7 of last season in favor of Ryan Tannehill, who led the team to the AFC Championship in his first year in Tennessee. The 26-year-old Mariota was taken second overall in 2015 and spent five underwhelming years with the Titans. He hasn't displayed enough accuracy and consistency in the NFL to be considered a starter, especially in fantasy. He'll be Derek Carr's backup in Las Vegas and would only be relevant in two-QB leagues if Carr is benched or injured in 2020.

The Las Vegas Raiders are getting close to a deal with free-agent quarterback Marcus Mariota, according to sources. General manager Mike Mayock had Mariota as his top-ranked quarterback heading into the 2015 draft. The former Oregon star was benched in 2019 in favor of Ryan Tannehill, who led the club to an AFC Championship appearance. He'd likely be a backup to Derek Carr if he signs with the Raiders, but the organization is growing tired of Carr despite the fact that he had one of his best seasons in 2019. Mariota has fallen completely off the fantasy radar.

Free-agent QB Marcus Mariota (Titans) is working on a contract agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to sources.

Mar 6 3:03pm ET

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota, a pending free agent, is drawing interest from the Las Vegas Raiders, likely to serve as a backup to Derek Carr. Mariota has been a favorite of Raider general manager Mike Mayock.

Fantasy Spin: The Tom Brady-to-Vegas rumor mill seems to have died down of late, and the Raiders adding a cheaper QB who could conceivably push Carr or take over if he struggles might be the route Las Vegas takes this offseason.

Mar 6 3:00pm ET

The Las Vegas Raiders are in the mix for Tennessee Titans impending free-agent quarterback Marcus Mariota. Mariota was general manager Mike Mayock's top-ranked quarterback in 2015. Derek Carr is the incumbent for the Raiders, and even though 2019 was one of Carr's better seasons, he still struggles with the deep ball and Las Vegas may be getting tired of him. Mariota, 26, hasn't been any better in his five seasons in the NFL, and he was benched in favor of Ryan Tannehill last year. Mariota has averaged a meager 7.5 yards per attempt and has a QB rating of 89.6. He's pretty much fallen off the fantasy radar completely and will have to settle for a backup gig in 2020.
