2024 RTSports Outlook

The Bengals hoped to have found their No. 3 receiver for this season, getting Burton in the third round of this year's draft. Burton was a productive college player that comes from a pro style offense. He should transition well to the NFL. He has pretty good size and does well on the deep ball. He is not great on shorter routes just yet and will need to shore up that area to be a more complete NFL receiver.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Burton has a chance to play a pretty big role in a good offense from day one, so he has some fantasy value. Just expect some up and down games, competing with two really good receivers for targets. He has some late-round fantasy value, though. Burton can get 50 receptions for 700 yards and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

It was rumored that Cincinnati Bengals receiver Jermaine Burton would fall in the 2024 NFL Draft due to reported character concerns. Ultimately, Cincinnati took a chance and selected him in the third round. After Marvin Harrison Jr., Rome Odunze, and Malik Nabers, Burton is arguably the next-best receiver in this draft class. Tee Higgins' current status with the Bengals is murky. He's under the franchise tag and reportedly there have been no talks about a contract extension. Higgins has also requested a trade and has not yet signed his franchise tender. There's a remote possibility Burton enters the year as the Bengals' WR2. More than likely though, he will be relegated to WR3 duties in 2024. If Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase are healthy for the entire season, then it's hard to envision a big role for Burton. However, if either misses extended action, the rookie is next in line. He's talented enough to make a difference on fantasy rosters if he's given a chance. With a National Fantasy Football Championship (NFFC) average draft position (ADP) of 248.85, Burton can be selected as a last-round flier or left undrafted altogether. Fantasy managers will need to act fast if injuries strike the depth chart as Burton has the potential to make an immediate impact with extended playing time.

Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton has left a positive impression on the coaching staff despite being drafted less than two weeks ago. According to SI's Albert Breer, Burton has already shown the Bengals that he is a "competitive kid who has good ball skills and the explosiveness to separate from coverage in the NFL." Breer noted that Burton has worked through some off-the-field issues but has the talent needed to make an impact at the pro level. He's currently competing for the No. 3 receiver role behind Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Such a position on the depth chart was most recently occupied by Tyler Boyd. The Bengals would love to get production out of Burton in his first pro season, and as Breer points out, he could benefit from Chase and Higgins drawing away coverage.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton could have a leg up on the No. 3 job in Cincy in 2024 behind Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins if he can acclimate quickly due to his size, explosiveness and versatility. However, Charlie Jones could also carve out a bigger role as a more traditional slot receiver in his second NFL season now that he's fully healthy. Andrei Iosivas impressed as a rookie in 2023 and isn't going anywhere, so there's definitely going to be competition behind Chase and Higgins. If trust from quarterback Joe Burrow is the key, The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. writes that nobody would be surprised if the reliable Trenton Irwin ends up being the starting slot receiver in Week 1. Unless Chase or Higgins miss time with injury, the Bengals' No. 3 wideout is going to have a tough time being fantasy relevant on a weekly basis. Just ask Tyler Boyd.
