Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said on Monday that if/when quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. (eye) is cleared to return from Injured Reserve, he will return to the backup role behind Daniel Jones, according to Mike Chappell of FOX 59. Richardson is currently on IR with a fractured orbital bone, but he's eligible to have his 21-day practice window opened this week. The 23-year-old former first-rounder had surgery to fix his fractured orbital bone on Oct. 26 after he suffered the injury before the team's game on Oct. 12 against the Arizona Cardinals when a resistance band snapped and hit him in the face. Since A-Rich has been on the shelf, rookie Riley Leonard has been serving as Jones' backup. Richardson, once viewed as the next franchise QB, has hit rock bottom in terms of his fantasy value.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. (eye) underwent surgery on Monday to repair his orbital fracture, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. He has been sidelined since Week 6 following a freak accident with a piece of workout equipment. The Colts are leaving the door open for Richardson to return later this season, but his fantasy stock is at an all-time low. Even if he does play again this year, Richardson would merely operate as the backup quarterback behind Daniel Jones, who has revived his career during his first year in Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that there is no timetable on quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr.'s (eye) return, according to FOX 59's Mike Chappell. After landing on Injured Reserve earlier this week, Richardson will miss at least four games after suffering a fractured orbital bone before Sunday's win over the Arizona Cardinals when a resistance band snapped and hit him in the face. He will be in and out of the team's facilities getting treatment and will remain engaged in meetings. With Richardson on IR, Riley Leonard has been elevated to the backup QB role behind starter Daniel Jones. The Colts brought in Brett Rypien to join their practice squad to give them depth behind Jones and Leonard. After losing out on the starting gig to Jones in training camp, Richardson's stock is as low as it's ever been after he was taken fourth overall in 2023.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. (eye) has been placed on Injured Reserve due to an orbital fracture, per ESPN's Stephen Holder. Richardson Sr. suffered the injury in a freak accident while warming up with a stretch band before the Colts' Week 6 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. The 23-year-old will now miss at least the next four games for Indianapolis, leaving the team without its preferred backup to starting quarterback Daniel Jones. Sixth-round rookie signal-caller Riley Leonard would currently be next in line if Jones were to get injured. However, Holder reports that the Colts will "consider signing a veteran to back up Jones depending on (Richardson Sr.'s) timeline."

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. (eye) suffered an orbital fracture after a pregame incident while working out with an elastic band, head coach Shane Steichen told the media postgame. Steichen did not elaborate on what happened, other than noting that the band "malfunctioned." Richardson was taken to the hospital and will miss extended time. The improbable injury is a tough break for Richardson, a former first-round pick who was cemented as the backup quarterback behind Daniel Jones in Indianapolis. His recovery will likely take several weeks, which will put Riley Leonard in line to serve as Jones' backup for the time being.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. (eye) suffered an eye injury doing band work during pre-game warmups on Sunday and is inactive for the Week 6 game against the visiting Arizona Cardinals, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. It's a new low point in the former first-rounder's career after losing the starting gig to Daniel Jones to begin the 2025 season. With Richardson sidelined, rookie Riley Leonard will be forced to serve as the direct backup to Jones for Sunday's game at Lucas Oil Stadium. It's unknown at this time if Richardson will be available to back up Jones next week on the road in Los Angeles against the Chargers. Richardson has only appeared in two games so far this year and has completed one of his two pass attempts for nine yards.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. has appeared in just two games so far this season, both times in mop-up duty at the end of blowout victories. The 23-year-old is firmly behind Daniel Jones on the quarterback depth chart in Indianapolis due to how well Jones has played through five games. In his first season with the Colts, Jones has completed 71.3% of his pass attempts for 1,290 yards and six touchdowns, adding three rushing touchdowns as well. Richardson Sr.'s dual-threat ability gives him major fantasy upside if he ever gets another chance to start, but for now, he remains an injury to Jones away from playing time.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. closed out Week 3's 41-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans, but did not factor into the game's outcome. The former Florida Gator took the field for the Colts' final drive, participating on his first seven plays of the season. He'd finish the contest with negative-one rushing yards on four carries, and nary a single pass attempt, as he was only utilized to hand the ball off, handle a rush, and kneel thrice to run the clock out. The 23-year-old could be a gold mine for fantasy, but he hasn't yet improved enough to be an efficient NFL passer. With teammate Daniel Jones balling out as Indy's starter, Richardson Sr. garners little fantasy appeal outside of a stash in superflex dynasty formats.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. could emerge as a trade candidate in the coming weeks. Through his first two seasons, Richardson has completed just 50.6% of his passes with more interceptions than touchdowns, but the former top-five pick is still viewed as an unpolished talent with untapped potential. After the Colts named Daniel Jones their starting quarterback at the end of training camp, speculation grew that Richardson might seek a fresh start elsewhere. With teams like the Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, and Washington Commanders already battling quarterback injuries, Richardson could draw interest as a developmental option or insurance plan. While his playing style doesn't seamlessly fit every system, it wouldn't be surprising to see him land a new role before season's end.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, teams around the National Football League "aren't tripping over themselves" to trade for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. The Colts have already gone on record by stating the club isn't looking to move him. However, even if Richardson was on the block, most teams wouldn't be interested, considering he'd likely be joining as a backup. In addition, the signal-caller certainly needs more time to develop. Richardson hasn't done much since entering the league as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 Draft. His only positive attribute is seemingly as a runner. On the other hand, he has struggled throwing the ball, tossing for 2,391 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 picks while completing 50.6% of his attempts. To make matters worse, Richardson was limited to 15 games in his first two seasons. With Daniel Jones under center in Indianapolis, Richardson's value can't get any lower for those participating in redraft formats, although he's still worth stashing in dynasty setups in case he somehow turns things around moving forward.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen has been non-committal on whether he will use quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. in short-yardage and red-zone packages this year after he lost out on starting QB duties to Daniel Jones. "We'll see," Steichen said when asked if the former first-rounder could contribute in short-yardage/red-zone situations. "I want to make sure he crushes his new role, takes it in stride and does a hell of a job there." The Colts aren't giving up on the former fourth overall pick, but even if he is used in short-yardage/red-zone packages, it won't suddenly make him start-worthy in two-QB superflex fantasy leagues. He has always had elite rushing upside -- his 10 rushing TDs since 2023 are third among QBs -- but injuries and accuracy issues have made him a bust so far for Indy. The Colts didn't use Richardson as a runner when Joe Flacco took over QB duties in 2024.

The Indianapolis Colts do not have any current plans to trade quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr., who lost out on the starting QB job to enter the 2025 season. "We're not trading him," general manager Chris Ballard said on Wednesday. Richardson, the former fourth overall pick out of Florida in the 2023 draft, is at a low point in his career entering the 2025 campaign after losing out on a competition to Daniel Jones. The 23-year-old has plenty of rushing ability but entered the league as a developemental prospect as a passer. Not only has he struggled to make strides with his accuracy and decision-making as a pure passer, but injuries have also gotten in the way. Richardson started just 15 games in his first two seasons and may only get another shot under center in Indy if Jones struggles. A-Rich is only stash-worthy in dynaty and two-QB superflex formats right now.

Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson Sr. will not play in the team's final preseason game on Saturday against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Jake Arthur of Sports Illustrated. Riley Leonard and Jason Bean will be the team's signal-callers in the preseason finale. Jones was named Indianapolis' Week 1 starter on Tuesday, but it's clear that the team is still prioritizing Richardson Sr.'s health by holding him out of exhibition action. The third-year quarterback has missed a significant amount of time due to injuries so far in his career, and has already suffered both shoulder and finger injuries since the start of the OTAs in 2025.

Dynasty | Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson will be the backup to Daniel Jones to start the season. Dynasty Analysis: Yikes. The Colts drafted him with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, based on some tantalizing physical skills but also with a real lack of experience. Unfortunately, that lack of experience and his lack of availability (he's played 15 games in two years) has resulted in a lack of trust within the organization after just two seasons. While Daniel Jones is unlikely to flourish in the starter's role and completely close the door on Richardson, this is going to take his ADP and put it into a major tailspin.
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen was non-committal on Tuesday when asked if he sees a future for quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. to start again for the team. "That's hard to say. Obviously, Daniel Jones is our starter right now. And if something happens to Daniel at some point, AR gets another opportunity," Steichen said. It comes after the Colts' announcement on Tuesday that Jones has won the QB job over Richardson to begin the 2025 regular season. The 23-year-old former first-rounder has dealt with shoulder and finger injuries during spring and summer workouts, but he's fully healthy now. Richardson still has the higher fantasy ceiling than Jones because of his elite rushing ability, and there's a good chance that he'll make some starts at some point this year if Jones continues to struggle like he did with the New York Giants.

Dynasty | Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson completed 6-of-11 passes for 73 yards in week two of the preseason. Dynasty Analysis: Richardson desperately needed to get back on the field to push Daniel Jones for the starting job and did just that. While he hasn't done anything overly impressive, he'll undoubtedly be the QB1 at the beginning of the season if the competition is remotely close. Naming Jones the starter would be a massive indictment on Richardson and his future with the Colts would be in serious jeopardy should that happen. This story is a big one in dynasty leagues and it sounds like it's coming to a conclusion soon one way or another. Stay tuned.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. completed six of his 11 passes for 73 yards and added a nine-yard rush in a 23-19 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. Richardson relieved Daniel Jones and played most of the second quarter, leading the Colts on a 90-yard drive that culminated with a Tyler Goodson three-yard touchdown run. Richardson and Jones are still locked into a preseason battle for the Colts' QB1 role, but it appears that they won't have to wait much longer. After the game, head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that he's "very close" to naming his starting quarterback. The Colts' preseason finale comes against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. Richardson would set up as an upside QB2 in fantasy drafts if he emerges from camp as Indy's starter.
