2024 RTSports Outlook

Williams was slowed by injury a little last year, hurting his numbers. He missed four games and finished 105 yards shy of a 1,000-yard season. Williams was 33rd overall in fantasy receiver scoring. He had 100-yard games three of his first five games, but was kind of quiet after that. He did show well late in the year, having double-digit fantasy points four of his last five games. Williams will continue to be a huge part of the Chargers explosive passing game going forward. Williams has 1,000-yard seasons two of his last four. Williams is a tall, physical receiver that does well at catching nearly everything thrown his way. He is a tough cover because of his size and strength. His route running still isn't top notch but improved. He will have some drops along the way.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Williams has a high weekly upside but will disappear some weeks. You just have to take the good and bad with him and hope the good outweighs the bad. Take him as a No. 2 fantasy receiver and expect similar numbers to past years when he played a full season. He can get around 80 receptions for 1,200 yards and eight or nine scores.

New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams (knee) is unlikely to take part in training camp, according to general manager Joe Douglas. "Mike's rehabbing the knee injury. I would say he's not gonna be ready for the start of training camp, but again, there's a lot of time, so we'll see how the rehab progresses, Douglas said. "There's a lot of checkpoints to hit, but we do feel confident that he's gonna be ready for the year." The 29-year-old is coming off an ACL tear he suffered in Week 3 of last season, so the injury update is not much of a surprise. The longtime Los Angeles Charger is expected to fill the WR2 role behind Garrett Wilson this season. Although he has durability concerns, the contested-catch specialist could do serious damage with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, making him an intriguing best ball target in 2024.

New York Jets WR Mike Williams (knee) will not be ready for the start of training camp, but general manager Joe Douglas said the team hopes Williams will be ready for start of the regular season.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players will need to monitor his progress during training camp to see when he will be able to play. There is a chance he will miss a game or two because of the injury, but he will still have fantasy value in fantasy leagues. He can be a No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy receiver when healthy.

New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams (knee), who is four-plus months removed from surgery to fix a torn ACL, said that he will be ready for Week 1 this fall. Williams tore his ACL in Week 3 with the Los Angeles Chargers last year and missed the rest of the season. The 29-year-old was cut by the Bolts for salary cap purposes this offseason and quickly signed a one-year deal with the Jets worth up to $15 million in 2024. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound former first-rounder will give quarterback Aaron Rodgers a big target across from Garrett Wilson, which should allow him to put up some spike weeks for fantasy managers. However, it remains to be seen how effective the oft-injured wideout will coming off his significant knee injury. Most likely, Williams will be a boom-or-bust fantasy receiver in 2024 with plenty of injury risk.

New York Jets WR Mike Williams (knee) said he's four months removed from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and said he'll be ready for Week 1.

Fantasy Spin: Williams has always been a productive, yet frustrating fantasy asset because he goes off and gets hurt. He'll be a WR3 option that is in position to succeed opposite of Garrett Wilson.

Mar 19 5:03pm ET

Free-agent WR Mike Williams (Chargers) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth up to $15 million with the New York Jets on Tuesday, March 19.

Fantasy Spin: Williams was reportedly expected to visit the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers this week, but it comes as little surprise that New York refused to let him leave Florham Park without agreeing to terms. Although Williams is recovering from a torn ACL, the injury happened early enough last season that he should be ready for training camp. The biggest question with him - as it has been since his college days - is his ability to avoid injury all season long. If he can do that, he should thrive opposite Garrett Wilson while catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. Consider him a high-risk fantasy WR3 option in early drafts.

Former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams is signing with the New York Jets, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. The 29-year-old will ink a one-year deal worth up to $15 million. Williams was recently released by the Chargers after seven seasons with the organization. He totaled 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns with the Bolts. He'll now join an offense with Aaron Rodgers, Breece Hall, and Garrett Wilson, so assuming he has a successful recovery from a torn ACL suffered in Week 3 of last season, he could be due for spike weeks in 2024 fantasy football. That said, he has struggled to stay on the field over the last two years after a 1,146-yard season in 2021, so fantasy managers should proceed with caution when considering him in drafts this year.

Free-agent wide receiver Mike Williams reportedly has scheduled visits with multiple teams this upcoming week. The Los Angeles Chargers made Williams a cap-casualty late last week. Since then, the Chargers have traded fellow wideout Keenan Allen and expressed interest in bringing back Williams. Despite that, Williams is scheduled to visit with the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, and Pittsburgh Steelers this week. All three teams have a need for Williams, so he'd likely be a legitimate threat on any of them. Williams does have a lengthy injury history but has proven to be reliable when healthy.

The Carolina Panthers plan to host former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams (knee) for a visit next week, according to a league source. Williams, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 3 of last year, was released earlier this week due to salary cap purposes. The 29-year-old they call Big Mike was set to make $20 million in the final year of his three-year extension in 2024. Now that most of the big free agents have already chosen new teams, Williams is one of the biggest names available on the open market and would give young quarterback Bryce Young a big new target in the passing game after Carolina already traded for wideout Diontae Johnson. The former seventh overall pick in 2017 by the Bolts out of Clemson has two 1,000-yard seasons in his seven NFL campaigns and scored nine touchdowns in 2021, but his lengthy injury history outweighs his upside at this point.

Dynasty | The Chargers have released wide receiver Mike Williams. Dynasty Analysis: The Chargers could certainly use him but the move saves them $20 million against the salary cap, so this makes sense. Williams has been in the league for seven years and those have been marked by stretches of dominance and lots of injuries, including a torn ACL that derailed his 2023 season. He'll enter the free agent market and should find a lot of interest as he's shown great contested catch ability and touchdown potential throughout his career. Williams' dynasty star is fading but his ranking will be settled with his next landing spot.

Mar 13 11:53pm ET

Free-agent WR Mike Williams could possibly return to the Los Angeles Chargers after being released. He is coming back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but when healthy he is one of the top receivers in a rather weak market.

Fantasy Spin: Williams was released to save $20 million in salary cap space in 2024, and he will still cost the team $12.46 million in dead cap space. He has had some injury issues in his time in Los Angeles, but if he can return to full strength, wherever he lands, he has WR2 fantasy ability still.

Mar 13 3:30pm ET

Eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack will stay with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024 and free up salary cap space for the team by agreeing to restructure his deal, according to sources. That wasn't the case for receiver Mike Williams, who was released on Wednesday. The 33-year-old Mack, the former fifth overall pick in 2014 by the Las Vegas Raiders out of Buffalo, had a career-high 17 sacks in 17 games for the Bolts in his second year with the team, adding 74 tackles (57 solo), 21 tackles for loss 22 QB hits, 10 passes defended and five forced fumbles as LA's most consistent pass-rusher. While fantasy managers in IDP leagues shouldn't expect a repeat in 2024, Mack showed last year that he can still be a disruptive pass-rushing force after previously not reaching double-digit sacks since 2018.

Veteran wide receiver Mike Williams (knee) is being released by the Los Angeles Chargers after seven seasons with the organization, as reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The move clears $20 million in cap space for L.A. Originally the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Chargers, Williams has racked up 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns in 88 games. He's flashed plenty of upside in his career, but injuries have been an issue. The 29-year-old has not played a full season since 2018 and was limited to just three games last year before suffering a torn ACL. Either way, there should be plenty of interest from other teams for the contested catch specialist given the premium that is placed on wide receivers in today's game.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams is being released, per source on Wednesday, March 13.

Fantasy Spin: This was an expected move, as Williams was set to cost a boatload of money in 2024 and simply didn't warrant it because of his inability to stay healthy. Despite his injury history, Williams now becomes one of the top options in a weak wide receiver market. He'll be a flex option, at worst, entering next season, no matter where he lands

From TheHuddle

Mar 11 9:40am ET

The Los Angeles Chargers are reportedly willing to trade Mike Williams (knee) this offseason, and the team has already explored trade partners ahead of 2024 free agency. The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his three-year $60 million deal. If traded, the organization will save $20 million on the cap. Originally a first-round pick by the Chargers in 2017, Williams has two 1,000-yard seasons on his resume. Last year, he played in just three games before suffering a torn ACL. Injuries have been an issue for him during his career, but there are likely to be interested suitors for the contested catch specialist on the trade market.

The Los Angeles Chargers have had exploratory talks about trading WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, although Allen is less likely to be moved, per source on Sunday, March 10.
