2020 RTSports Outlook

Injuries slowed Mack early last season but he excelled when he returned to the starting lineup for the Colts. He had more than 1,000 total yards and 10 touchdowns in 12 games. Mack was 20th overall in fantasy running back scoring. Mack had four 100-yard rushing games and found the end zone four straight games to end his season. Mack was a big part of the offense down the stretch and did very well in the lead back role. He should be the odds on favorite to start this year for the Colts, but won't be handed the job. His lack of work in the passing game is a concern. Mack is tough to bring down with the ball in his hands. He has good size and strength. Mack has pretty good moves in space. He lacks a little big-play ability and hasn't been a factor in the passing game in two seasons.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: As long as he is starting in this offense, Mack has good fantasy potential. He can rack up some scores and produce good rushing totals. Consider him a low-end No. 2 back but his ceiling is pretty high if all goes well for him. He can get around 1,200 total yards, double-digit scores and 25 receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

There have been two concerns about Marlon Mack since he came into the NFL. The first of these is his tendency to try and bounce everything outside. A problem he seemed to solve a bit last season behind a better than advertised offensive line, and with Andrew Luck back behind center. The problem is that Luck will now not be under center. However, Jacoby Brissett may benefit Mack in some ways, as he has the ability to use his legs and that opens things up for running backs. The other worry is his high potential for injury. This problem still needs to be addressed as he missed four full games again last season. In those four games, the Colts went 1-3 and looked like a terrible team. After his return, the offense went streaking into the playoffs. Last season, Mack compiled 908 yards and nine touchdowns on 195 carries. While not a true pass-catching back, he also came down with 17 receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown on 26 targets. While not elite numbers,it is enough to make him a high-end RB2 or low-end RB1 for fantasy teams. With all of the pass-catching options available to the Colts, there is little need for Marlon Mack or backfield mate Nyheim Hines to have a major part of the passing game. The majority should in fact come from Hines as he is set to be the third-down back in this system, based on last years usage. While the limited use of Mack in the passing game does restrict his upside, the offense of the Colts, with one of the best quarterbacks in the league, makes him a good play none the less. He is currently getting drafted in the third round, in the same area as Devonta Freeman and behind a higher risk player like Damien Williams. At this price, Mack is the solid choice to make. His ceiling may only be RB10 due to his lack of expected receptions. However, with the looming injury risk that Freeman brings and the potential disappearance of Damien Williams should Carlos Hyde perform, Mack may be the safest running back in this area, with a solid floor of a low-end RB2 for your team.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said on Sunday that the team isn't pursuing a long-term contract extension with running back Marlon Mack currently. It doesn't mean that it's not on the table or that the Colts don't want to keep Mack around for the long-term, but it's not a pressing issue. The 23-year-old (24 next month) is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2020 season. He's been the starter the last two years and had 247 carries for 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019. However, he's also missed eight games the last two seasons, so Indy might be hesitant in thinking he'll continue to be a lead back for years to come. Mack does have a strong offensive line in front of him, but he'll be more of a low-end RB1/high-end RB2 going into the final year of his contract in 2020.

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack is not in line for a contract extension at this time. '(Marlon), we love him, but we love the other two guys. We want him back and he wants to be back, really. There were some mis-reports that we were pursuing an extension there. That's not the case. I don't know where those came from,' team owner Jim Irsay said Sunday, Feb. 23.

The Indianapolis Colts have had contract-extension talks with running back Marlon Mack, according to an NFL source. Talks are expected to heat up later this month at the combine. The soon-to-be 24-year-old is coming off his first 1,000-yard season and is set to make $2.25 million in 2020, the final year of his rookie contract. He led the team with 1,091 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 247 carries (4.4 yards per carry) in a career-high 14 games. Mack is relatively young and has far less tread on his tires than some of his contemporaries in the league, so he could be rewarded with a handsome contract as the bell cow of this backfield. And he could be even more productive in 2020 if he stays healthy and the Colts upgrade at quarterback on the free-agent market.

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack is talking with the Colts about a contract extension with discussions expected to pick up later this month, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Mack finished this season with 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games. He will continue to be the main option in the running back for the foreseeable future and should be a weekly starting option in all fantasy leagues.

Dec 29 8:43pm ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett completed 12-of-25 passes for 162 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in a Week 17 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars while running for 17 yards with two lost fumbles. RB Marlon Mack ended with 15 runs for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while RB Nyheim Hines rushed seven times for 34 yards while adding three grabs for 22 yards. WR T.Y. Hilton finished up strong with a team-high 72 receiving yards on three grabs, while TE Marcus Johnson ended up with two catches for 32 yards and TE Jack Doyle disappointed with one snag for six yards.

Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack took advantage of a great matchup in Week 16 en route to a big day. He had 16 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown, and he caught both of his targets for six yards. Mack cleared the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career, and this was the workhorse back that fantasy owners have been looking for all season. Behind this great offensive line, Mack has the ability to remain a steady fantasy back for years to come.

Dec 22 5:33pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack rushed 16 times for a game-high 95 yards and a touchdown in the Week 16 win against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Spin: Mack, Jordan Wilkins and Jacoby Brissett each rushed for touchdowns in the blowout victory. Mack and the Colts will look to finish up strong in Week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Northeast Florida.

From TheHuddle

Dec 21 6:00pm ET

Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack hasn't been the stud that he was last season for the last few weeks, but he has the chance to have a big week in Week 16. The Carolina Panthers Defense has been very forgiving to running backs this year. They've given up the third-most yards along with 26 rushing touchdowns, which is seven more than the next team. The Panthers are also starting a rookie quarterback, which could get the Colts out to an early lead. If that happens, they could lean on Mack for the majority of the contest.

Dec 17 2:00pm ET

Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack struggled mightily in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints, and his final stat line showed. He finished with 11 carries for 19 yards, and he was unable to add anything in the receiving game. The Colts offense just looks super disjointed over the last few weeks, and Mack has been a victim of that. He needs his team to get out to a quick lead, and they haven't been doing that. With the season winding down, it's getting harder and harder to justify playing him in fantasy lineups.

From RotoBaller

Dec 16 11:33pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack ran 11 times for just 19 yards in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints on Monday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Spin: It was an ugly night for the New Orleans offense, as they Colts fell behind by a ton in the second half and the run game was no longer an option. He'll look to redeem himself in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers back in Indy.

From TheHuddle

Dec 9 3:50pm ET

Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack, in his return from a hand injury, was inefficient in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he was able to get into the end zone to salvage his day. He finished with 13 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown. He didn't add anything in the passing game, but, in a big shootout, he wasn't utilized a ton. In the final weeks of the season, Mack won't be counted on for a ton of production, but he's still giving you an RB2 level of play on an every week basis.

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hand) ran 13 times for 38 yards and a touchdown in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing in the stadium where he starred in college for South Florida.

Fantasy Spin: Mack didn't roll up huge yardage totals, but he had the score and he appears to be a decent fantasy option going into the Week 15 game against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night since he suffered no apparent setbacks.

Dec 6 6:13pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hand) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 6, and is not on the injury report for Week 14.

Fantasy Spin: Mack will return to the lineup after missing the last few games because of his fractured hand. He was one of the better running backs in the NFL before the injury and should receive plenty of carries this week. He can be a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.

Dec 6 5:13pm ET

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (calf), CB Kenny Moore (ankle) and PK Adam Vinatieri (knee) were unable to practice Friday, Dec. 6, and have been ruled out for Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. CB Rock Ya-Sin (ankle) also did not practice Friday but is listed as questionable. S Malik Hooker (foot) took part in a full practice Friday and is also listed as questionable. DL Denico Autry (rest), OT Anthony Castonzo (rest), DE Justin Houston (rest) and LB Darius Leonard (rest) were held out of practice Friday but do not appear on the injury report. S Clayton Geathers (rest), RB Marlon Mack (hand), TE Mo Alie-Cox (thumb) and WR Parris Campbell (hand) practiced in full Friday and have also been removed from the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Dec 6 2:33pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hand) is not expected to be on a pitch count in Week 14 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to head coach Frank Reich, who also indicated that he'll have all four of his running backs active for the game. The potential unlimited usage was probably what Mack's fantasy owners want to hear, although the idea that Reich is going to make all of his backs active - a rarity in today's NFL - makes him slightly less attractive for fantasy purposes, especially in a difficult matchup. Owners should have a more enticing flex option on the roster if they've survived the last couple of weeks without him.

From TheHuddle

Dec 6 2:10pm ET

Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack is expected to be back on the field for a Week 14 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mack hasn't played since Week 11 due to a broken hand, but according to Colts coach Frank Reich, Mack won't be limited or on any kind of a pitch count. While fantasy owners are likely thrilled that Mack is back, he has a rough matchup to welcome him. Tampa Bay features the league's best run defense and one of the league's worst pass defenses, so the Colts are more likely to take to the air than to rely on their running game. Mack is a low-floor RB2 for this one.

From RotoBaller

Dec 5 9:43pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hand) faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14, and the Buccaneers have allowed a league-low 723 rushing yards to opposing backs while holding them to the second-fewest yards per carry (3.26).

Fantasy Spin: Mack picked a rough week to return from a hand injury, but he's been a workhorse for the Colts and should see enough volume to be a low-end RB2 or solid flex option against the Buccaneers.

From TheHuddle

Dec 5 4:53pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hand) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 5.

Fantasy Spin: Mack should return to the starting lineup after missing some time because of the injury. He will be facing a tough Tampa Bay Buccaneers run defense but should still be a starting option in all leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 5 3:50pm ET

Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack (hand) returned to a full practice on Thursday. Mack has been sidelined since Nov. 17, but he's well on his way to returning to action in Week 14 against the Buccaneers. In a tough matchup against Tampa's defensive front and possibly at risk of sharing touches with Jonathan Williams, Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines, Mack will be more of a low-end RB2 this weekend if he makes his way back. Rookie wide receiver Parris Campbell (hand) has practiced in full the last two days as well, making it likely he makes his return this weekend. He should be in three-wide sets with Zach Pascal and Marcus Johnson, but Campbell is a fantasy dart throw the rest of the way in this run-first offense.

From RotoBaller

Dec 4 4:03pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hand) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Spin: It's an important step in the right direction for Mack. Jonathan Williams has been holding down the fort in his absence, but the Week 1 starter should return to a full workload as soon as he's able to take the field.
