2020 RTSports Outlook

The Jaguars used a late-round pick on Minshew in this year's draft. He will compete for the No. 2 or 3 job his rookie year. Minshew was a system quarterback in college, coming from a spread offense that threw often. He gets through his reads in a hurry and does well on shorter throws. He lacks arm strength, though, and will struggle with accuracy on throws down the field.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Minshew might take some time to get up to speed in the NFL game. Don't bother with him for now.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone and general manager David Caldwell said that the team will let quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Nick Foles compete for the starting job in 2020. Joshua Dobbs will also be a part of the competition, which will begin as soon as organized team activities kick off this spring. Marrone suggested that the Jaguars won't select their starter until the preseason. Caldwell may have a soft spot for Minshew, but the Jags also signed Foles to a four-year, $88 million deal ($45 million in guarantees) in March of last year. Foles broke his collarbone in Week 1 and was benched upon his return. Minshew, a rookie in 2019, showed flashes but was mostly a game manager in this run-first offense. Whoever is under center to start next season will be a middling QB2 option.

Dec 29 10:30pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew ended his rookie campaign on a high note, going 27-for-39 for 295 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts. He also added seven rushing yards. Minshew will likely enter 2020 as Jacksonville's starting quarterback and will have a chance to establish himself as the team's long-term starter, though his 2019 season suggested that Minshew's ceiling is limited. He'll likely have an ADP around QB20 when next season arrives.

Dec 29 3:30pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Dede Westbrook (neck, shoulder) and quarterback Gardner Minshew (shoulder) are both active for Week 17 against the Colts. Running back Leonard Fournette (neck) and cornerback A.J. Bouye (wrist) have been officially ruled out. Westbrook's fantasy upside is limited with both D.J. Chark and Chris Conley commanding targets in this run-first offense, but perhaps Jacksonville will air it out more with Fournette sidelined in this meaningless Week 17 game. Westbrook is a low-upside WR4/flex, while Minshew is a midrange QB2 in an offense that has struggled in the second half of the season. Fournette finishes with another 1,000-yard season, but he found the end zone just three total times.

Dec 22 6:10pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew had a disappointing Week 16, going just 13-for-31 for 181 yards. He threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Chris Conley and didn't turn the ball over. It was a tough showing for the rookie, who struggled to complete passes. He did add 36 rushing yards on seven carries to help bolster his fantasy numbers, but this performance likely didn't win anyone their fantasy league. Minshew will look to play better in Week 17 against the Colts, but Minshew's been a low-yardage guy since retaking the starting job in Jacksonville.

From RotoBaller

Dec 20 11:20am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew has been solid since retaking the starting job for the Jags, throwing three touchdowns and no interceptions in the last two games. He gets a solid matchup on Sunday against a Falcons squad that's allowed the eighth-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. That doesn't mean you should be considering Minshew a starting QB1 in Week 16, but he does have plenty of appeal in two-quarterback and Superflex leagues this week.

From RotoBaller

Dec 15 7:20pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew had a solid game against the Raiders in Week 15. He completed 17-of-29 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He was turnover-free in the game and also added 27 rushing yards. Minshew had disappointed in his past three starts, failing to top 200 yards in two of the games while throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns in the third game. So it was encouraging to see him take advantage of a favorable matchup. He has another favorable matchup against the Falcons in Week 16.

From RotoBaller

Dec 13 11:10pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew threw for just 162 yards in his return to the starting role last week, but he should be in line to surpass that when Jacksonville faces the Oakland Raiders in Week 15. Oakland allows the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing passers, and the last time Minshew started against a comparable defense in fantasy points allowed was when he threw for 300 yards against Houston in Week 9. D.J. Chark won't play, which puts a little damper on Minshew's upside, but this is still a plus matchup for the rookie, who should be considered as a solid QB2.

From RotoBaller

Dec 8 7:50pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew returned to the starting lineup on Sunday against the Chargers and...well, it didn't go that well. Minshew was 24-for-37 throwing the ball for 162 yards and a touchdown while adding 31 yards on the ground. It could have been worse for Minshew, but it also could have been much, much better for a team that chose to bench veteran Nick Foles in order to give Minshew another chance at the starting role. He's a low-end QB2 moving forward.

From RotoBaller

Dec 7 12:20pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew is the starter again, but his first start since reclaiming that role comes in a bad situation. The Jags play the Chargers, who've allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points to opposing passers this season. The safest bet for you in a season-long fantasy league is to do what you can to avoid playing Minshew this week, though he's not the worst option in a two-quarterback league. He threw for 147 yards and a touchdown in one half of play against Tampa.

Dec 2 3:30pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew will start in Week 14 against the Chargers over Nick Foles, according to head coach Doug Marrone. Foles was benched in the Week 13 loss to the Bucs after throwing an interception and fumbling twice. Minshew is back in the fold after becoming an NFL phenomenon when Foles went down with a broken collarbone in the season opener. He certainly has more mobility than Foles and showed that he can create from nothing, but Minshew is still more of a midrange QB2 if he starts the rest of the way. The Chargers Defense won't be a cake walk, especially since they just got safeties Derwin James and Adrian Phillips back from Injured Reserve.

From RotoBaller

Dec 1 4:50pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew replaced starter Nick Foles at the half after Foles got off to a rough start. In the half, Minshew was 16-for-27 for 147 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also added eight rushing yards on two carries. It was a fine half for Minshew, though the Buccaneers Defense has struggled against the pass all year, so Jacksonville might have expected more of a spark. It's probably safe to assume Minshew is the starter now, but he's nothing more than a low-end QB2.

From RotoBaller

Nov 5 4:00pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone announced on Tuesday that quarterback Nick Foles (collarbone), who has been activated from Injured Reserve, will regain his starting job from rookie Gardner Minshew coming out of their Week 10 bye to face the Colts on Nov. 17. Minshew has held his own in eight games with Foles sidelined, but he fell flat in Week 9 in London against the Texans. The Jags also signed Foles to a four-year, $88 million deal with a franchise-record $50.125 million in guarantees, so they have a financial incentive to start him as well. Minshew took the league by storm and led the team to a 4-4 record, but he had four turnovers last week and led the team to just one field goal. He leads the NFL with 11 fumbles and is second with seven lost fumbles. Foles should give the Jaguars a better chance to win, and he's more likely to take deep shots to D.J. Chark and Chris Conley. Treat Foles as a QB2 with upside now that he's back.

From RotoBaller

Nov 3 1:40pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew was 27-for-47 for 309 yards in Sunday's loss to the Houston Texans. But while the yardage looked good, the two interceptions and two fumbles in the second half didn't. And while Minshew did have 34 rushing yards, his zero total touchdowns helped contribute to what was a disappointing fantasy day. The Jaguars have a bye week up next and get Nick Foles (collarbone) back following the bye week, so there's no guarantee that Minshew is even the starter the next time the Jaguars take the field.

From RotoBaller

Nov 3 11:20am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew could remain the team's starting quarterback even after Nick Foles (collarbone) is ready to return, which is expected to be in Week 11 after the team's Week 10 bye. There's a lot riding on the Week 9 contest against the Texans in London for Minshew as a result. The 23-year-old has been a savior for the Jags in the absence of Foles, throwing for 1,976 yards, 13 touchdowns and only two interceptions in eight games. He doesn't have high-end QB1 upside on a weekly basis, but Minshew Mania has been a serviceable low-end QB1 streamer in recent weeks in solid matchups. He's been a strong QB2 for those in two-QB leagues.

From RotoBaller

Nov 1 6:00pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew is coming off the first three-touchdown game of his NFL career in Week 8 and will look to continue throwing the ball well in London against the Texans on Sunday. Houston allows the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks and have given up 18 passing touchdowns with just three interceptions. Minshew made his first NFL start against Houston in Week 2, throwing for 213 yards and a touchdown. He should top those numbers this week and has value as a streaming option at the position.

From RotoBaller

Oct 27 4:30pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew didn't have a great matchup against the Jets in Week 8, but the rookie shook off his recent struggles in Jacksonville's 29-15 win. Minshew was 22-for-34 passing the ball, finishing with 279 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 28 rushing yards on eight carries. Minshew had gone two games without completing half of his passes, but Sunday was a reminder of how the first-year passer can have success at times. He'll have a chance to find success again next week against a banged up Texans secondary.

From RotoBaller

Oct 26 12:50pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew isn't a great option in single-quarterback leagues in Week 8 when the Jaguars face the New York Jets. New York allows the 13th-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and held Tom Brady to just one touchdown pass in Week 7. Minshew has just one passing touchdown over the past two games and hasn't completed 50 percent of his passes in either of those contests, so he's trending down at a pretty bad time to be trending down with Nick Foles (collarbone) practicing again. Avoid Minshew if possible.

From RotoBaller

Oct 20 5:20pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew threw for 255 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He was 15-for-32 throwing the ball and also added 48 rushing yards on nine carries. It wasn't an encouraging game for Minshew, especially with a completion percentage below 50 percent, but he got the job done. Nick Foles (collarbone) is getting close to practicing, so Minshew's future as the starter for this team could be in danger. Avoid owning him in one-quarterback leagues.

From RotoBaller

Oct 18 8:30pm ET

Jacksonville rookie signal caller Gardner Minshew hit a significant bump in the road last week for the first time as a starter. The cure for that skid? It may just prove to be a matchup against a Bengals Defense yielding greater than 425 yards per game. Minshew failed to toss a touchdown last Sunday against New Orleans, the first time he did not record one in six games. While his 240.3 passing yard per contest average is far from gaudy, he has tossed nine touchdowns to just two interceptions, making him a safe option in traditional fantasy, as well as a high-upside low-priced option in DFS.

From RotoBaller

Oct 13 6:10pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew was smothered by the Saints Defense on Sunday and finished with just 163 yards and a pick on 14-for-29 passing. After throwing his first interception as a starter, Minshew also went without a touchdown toss for the first time this year. The future looks good for the rookie, however, as the Jags will hit the road for a Week 7 showdown with the winless Bengals. Expect a bounce-back performance.
