2020 RTSports Outlook

McCaffrey had one of the best seasons ever for a running back, topping both 1,000 rushing and receiv-ing yards. He was first overall in fantasy running back scoring, finishing 152 points higher than the se-cond place finisher. It was a dominating fantasy season for McCaffrey. He had 20-plus fantasy points all but two games. He had six 100-yard rushing games and five double-digit reception performances. McCaffrey has two straight seasons with 100-plus catches. He is the focal point of the Panthers offense and probably the most complete back in the game. He is a matchup nightmare for the opposition. McCaffrey has great moves in space and is a very tough tackle in the open field. He does lack a little size to be an ideal three-down back, but that hasn't been an issue to date. McCaffrey has great hands and runs top routes for a running back, playing more like a seasoned receiver when getting a chance to catch the ball.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: McCaffrey is our top rated fantasy back. His reception totals separate him from the rest of the pack. He is the most consistent back in the game because of his dual threat ability. He would be a solid No. 1 fantasy receiver even if he didn't run the ball, which is saying something. Take him first overall with confidence come draft day. He will top 2,000 total yards, get 100 receptions and score around 15 touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey established himself as arguably one of the most productive fantasy options ever during the 2019 season. After an impressive first two years in the league, McCaffrey exploded last season by compiling 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. While those numbers were impressive, he made some more noise, especially in PPR formats, by collecting 116 of his 142 targets for four additional scores while also surpassing the 1,000-yard mark as a quasi-receiver. With a fresh four-year, $64 million contract under his belt and the arrival of former Temple and Baylor head coach Matt Rhule calling the shots, the 23-year-old will--and should--remain the unanimous No. 1 selection in nearly every fantasy draft for the 2020 season.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey will receive plenty of touches this upcoming season, but offensive coordinator Joe Brady said he is not sure if McCaffrey will match the 429 touches he received in 2019.

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey is the main option on offense for the Panthers and should continue to be involved in the running and passing game. He is in the running for first overall pick in fantasy drafts and should be one of the most valuable players in fantasy football.

From TheHuddle

Jun 14 7:20pm ET

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey was recently ranked as the 10th best player in the league by Pro Football Focus. While his place on the list could be debated by many, fantasy managers will take comfort that the site still has him ranked as the most efficient back in the league. The 24-year-old was dominant in 2019, finishing with 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns on the rushing end of things, while also adding 116 catches for 1,005 yards and four more scores as a receiver. He will likely remain the No. 1 fantasy option heading into the 2020 campaign and should remain so, barring injury.

From RotoBaller

Jun 14 2:23pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey was on the field for 93.4 percent of the offensive snaps in 2019.

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey has been a big part of the running and passing game since entering the NFL and should continue to be one of the top options in fantasy leagues even if the teams reduces his snaps. McCaffrey likely will be the first overall pick in many fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jun 5 7:40pm ET

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey led the NFL in scrimmage yards with 2,392 last year, with the next closest player (Ezekiel Elliott) at 1,777 yards. McCaffrey played 93.4 percent of Carolina's offensive snaps, which was the highest in the league among running backs. His 1,262 scrimmage yards on first down were the most for any player by almost 200 yards -- Derrick Henry came in second at 1,098 -- and he also added nine total first-down touchdowns. McCaffrey averaged 5.0 yards per rush inside the tackles, which was second in the NFL among those with a minimum of 75 inside runs. New head coach Matt Rhule hinted that McCaffrey might not be used as much this year, but even if that's true, the running back is still head and shoulders above the competition because of his capabilities as both a runner and receiver. He should be the first overall pick in all fantasy leagues.

From RotoBaller

Jun 4 3:20pm ET

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey comes in ranked ninth on NFL.com's Nick Shook's top-10 explosive runners of 2019, but he'll still be the No. 1 player selected in the vast majority of 2020 fantasy drafts. He reached 15-plus mph on 96 touches last season, which was the most in the NFL, with 52 of those touches coming on rushing attempts. McCaffrey had a 15-plus mph rate of 18.1 percent and was able to gain 10-plus yards on 31 of his rushes in 2019. The fact that he touched the ball so much brings his 15-plus mph percentage down on this list. But McCaffrey's superior abilities as both a runner and receiver make him stand out above the rest of the competition by a landslide.

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey was recently labeled by general manager Marty Hurney as "a unique back," which ultimately served as the reasoning behind locking up the MVP candidate to a new deal. McCaffrey, who signed a four-year, $64 million contract in April, finished 2019 as the most impactful fantasy option, finishing the year with over 1,000 yards on both the rushing and receiving end. He led the league again last year by playing in 93 percent of the team's snaps on the offensive end and posting 1,019 YAC. The 23-year-old is projected to go first overall in most fantasy drafts this upcoming season, regardless of format.

From RotoBaller

May 25 10:43pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey amassed 1,009 yards after the catch in 2019 - 43 more than second-place Austin Ekeler (966) and 137 more than any other back since at least 2015, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey officially finished with 1,005 receiving yards, meaning all the yards he compiled (and then some) last season came after the catch. He became only the fourth back since the merger to top 1,000 yards and joined Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk as the only backs ever to post a 1,000/1,000 season. Owners would be a bit crazy to expect a similar effort from McCaffrey this season, but there's little question he is still worth taking No. 1 overall in the majority of fantasy drafts.

From TheHuddle

May 22 2:20am ET

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey may take a step back in 2020, at least according to ESPN. The Bristol-based company anticipates that the 23-year-old may see fewer snaps in new head coach Matt Rhule's offense and could see dips in statistical categories across the board as a result. However, he is still slotted by most to finish as the top back once again in 2020, especially when you consider the team's strength of schedule. McCaffrey ended 2019 with 287 carries for 1,387 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. He also added 116 catches for another four scores and 1,005 receiving yards. He is projected to be the first overall pick in nearly all fantasy drafts for the upcoming NFL season.

From RotoBaller

May 18 10:23pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey has averaged nine yards per catch over the course of his career when he has lined up in the backfield but only 7.4 yards when he has lined up as a receiver, according to Pro Football Focus.

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey's four-year contract extension worth just over $64 million includes $30.0625 million fully guaranteed at signing, according to a source. His 2020 base salary will be $825,000 (fully guaranteed), followed by base salaries of $8.0375 million in 2021, $8.4 million in 2022, $11.8 million in 2023, $11.8 million in 2024 and $12 million in 2025.

Apr 16 9:03pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey has gained 5,443 yards from scrimmage through his age-23 season to rank first all-time among players through that age. Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (5th) and Atlanta Falcons RB Todd Gurley (7th) are the only other active players from the top 10.

Fantasy Spin: It's just yet another stat that should help cement McCaffrey as the RB1 in 2020 fantasy drafts. Barry Sanders, who ranked second to McCaffrey through their age-23 seasons, amassed 1,577 yards from scrimmage in his age-24 season.

From TheHuddle

Apr 14 9:23pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey will still remain 'a featured piece' in the team's offense in 2020, but head coach Matt Rhule recently told The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue that 'effectively using McCaffrey as a weapon does not mean leaving him on the field the entire game.'

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey played a career-high 1,039 snaps in 2019 (93 percent of his team's offensive snaps a season ago) after logging 966 (91 percent) in 2018, so anything Rhule can do to get that number under 900 moving forward should benefit McCaffrey long-term. With that said, Carolina has to feel good enough about another back on the roster in order to be more efficient with his snaps. Either way, McCaffrey should remain the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy drafts this summer.

From TheHuddle

Apr 14 7:30pm ET

Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said that running back Christian McCaffrey will still be the featured piece in the offense, but the team wants to attack in many different ways, and using McCaffrey effectively as a weapon doesn't mean leaving him on the field for the whole game. McCaffrey is the best running back in the NFL and just became the highest-paid player at his position on Monday. He led all running backs with 353 fantasy points in 2019 while surpassing 1,000 yards on the ground and through the air. McCaffrey is an elite do-it-all back that should be the No. 1 pick in fantasy drafts this year, even if Rhule dials back his snaps slightly.

From RotoBaller

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey agreed to sign a four-year extension that will keep him signed until 2025. The contract is worth $16 million per year, making McCaffrey the league's highest-paid running back in league history. It's been a rough go for teams signing running backs to long contracts recently, but McCaffrey is a thoroughly different kind of player, becoming just the third player of all time to reach 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season in 2019. Even with the quarterback change and the rebuild in Carolina, McCaffrey is almost the certain top overall pick in fantasy drafts in 2020.

From RotoBaller

Apr 13 4:33pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with the Panthers Monday, April 13, worth $64 million, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey is one of the top players in the NFL and will continue to be involved in the running and passing game for the Panthers. He likely will the first overall pick in most fantasy drafts next season.

From TheHuddle

Apr 11 11:13pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey's 303 receptions in his first three seasons are the second most in league history.

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey has logged at least 80 catches in all three seasons, and in 2019, he topped 1,000 yards rushing and receiving. His versatility gives him plenty of upside to go along with arguably the highest floor among any player at any position. He should be the No. 1 pick in fantasy leagues in 2020.

From TheHuddle

Apr 6 6:30pm ET

Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said that the team has "had internal discussions" about an extension for running back Christian McCaffrey. The stud running back is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, but the Panthers may wait and have him play on the fifth-year team option in 2021 before signing him to a long-term extension. Whether or not McCaffrey is playing with a new deal or not, he should be the No. 1 overall fantasy selection this fall. The 23-year-old former eighth overall pick ran the ball 287 times for a career-high 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns, while also catching 116 passes for 1,005 yards and another four scores.

From RotoBaller

Apr 6 3:43pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey could be a candidate for a contract extension in the near future, according to general manager Marty Hurney.

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey is one of the top players in the NFL and should receive a lucrative extension at some point. He likely will be the first overall pick in most fantasy leagues in 2020.
