2020 RTSports Outlook

Smith-Schuster had a disappointing season, mainly because of an injury to Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers quarterback position was a struggle most of the year. Smith-Schuster had just one 100-yard game and finishing with 42 receptions for 552 yards in 12 games. It was an unexpected season from a player that topped 100 receptions the year before. Smith-Schuster will look to get back to his old ways this year as the No. 1 receiver with Roethilsberger at the helm. Smith-Schuster is a big, strong receiver that isn't afraid to make the tough catch. He does lack a little top speed, but still makes many of big plays. He will drop some passes, but has improved in that area since earlier in his career.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Smith-Schuster is a good buy-low candidate after last year. His ceiling is high in this pass-heavy offense. We wouldn't expect him to repeat his huge numbers from 2018, but he can be a legit No. 2 fantasy receiver. Look for around 90 receptions for 1,200 yards and seven or eight touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

After losing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the first game of the 2019 season, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster suffered statistically. His stat-lines made him look like a shell of himself out there when in fact he was just doubled so often with Antonio Brown out of town and a mixture of Duck Hodges and Mason Rudolph unable to fit the ball into any windows. The return of Roethlisberger at even 75 percent of himself would be such a boost for the entire offense. Smith-Schuster's 552 yards and three TDs on 42 receptions are egregious for a late-first round draft pick and now, thanks to recency bias, his draft range is back to the late-third/early-fourth level it was after his stellar rookie season. Skepticism is warranted in Smith-Schuster's ability to operate as an alpha WR without AB next to him for a full season, however, in games without him leading up to 2019, he accrued 26 receptions (on 35 targets), 333 yards, and 3 TD in four games. Take the discount and draft Smith-Schuster everywhere.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster may be lined up in the slot more often this upcoming season because of the addition of WR Chase Claypool, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Brooke Pryor.

Fantasy Spin: Smith-Schuster had a disappointing 2019 season because of injuries and playing with backup quarterbacks. He should have more success with Ben Roethlisberger healthy and would have better matchups if he lines up as a slot receiver. He has a chance to be a No. 2 receiver in fantasy leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster could be poised for a "huge year," according to former wideout and Good Morning Football co-host, Nate Burleson. Smith-Schuster battled a knee injury last season, which resulted in a loss of four games in addition to posting the worst numbers of his career. However, with the 23-year-old seemingly healthy, the former Trojan could be in line for a bounce-back season. He is projected to be selected somewhere in the second or third rounds in fantasy drafts for the 2020 season, but could easily surpass his ADP expectations if he performs as he did during his first two seasons in the league.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has been impressed with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) in his return from elbow surgery. "You're getting a version that we all expect that he will be at. He's back," Smith-Schuster said. "He's doing what he's doing. He's throwing NFL passes, there's nothing more to that." Smith-Schuster had an extremely disappointing season with injuries mixed in, but it was mainly due to the fact that Big Ben wasn't on the field throwing him passes. When Roethlisberger's return, the entire Steelers offense should rebound if he can stay healthy. There's obvious risk with the 38-year-old QB, but if he is fully past his arm issues and stays on the field, he'll be a great value pick as a late-round QB2.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster will be looking to "take that next step," according to Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert. Colbert acknowledged the wideout's lack of production in 2019, indicating that injuries and the lack of chemistry with backup quarterback Mason Rudolph hindered his performance. The 23-year-old finished last season with a career-low 42 catches (70 targets) for 552 yards and three touchdowns throughout 12 games. With Ben Roethlisberger expected to be ready to go after a season-ending elbow injury sustained during Week 2, the former Trojan has an excellent shot at getting back on track in what could be his final year in the Steel City.

May 2 1:30pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster may not be re-signed by the team next season, according to Ed Bouchette of The Athletic, who stated that the chances of the 23-year-old returning in 2021 are "not likely." Smith-Schuster's production dropped dramatically last year due to multiple injuries that relegated him to only 12 games in addition to the season-ending elbow injury to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The fourth-year man caught only three touchdown catches in 2019 after combining for 14 in his first two years in the league, and his 42 receptions were a career-low. However, things may change between now and the end of the season regarding Smith-Schuster's destination, especially if he can remain productive and on the field for a full 16 games.

From RotoBaller

May 2 1:00pm ET

The Pittsburgh Steelers are unlikely to re-sign wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster after the 2020 season, in the opinion of The Athletic's Ed Bouchette. Injuries and poor quarterback play didn't help his cause in 2019, but Smith-Schuster had his worst season as a professional with 42 receptions for 552 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. That came after a breakout 2018 season in which he made the Pro Bowl for recording a career-high 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns. The jury remains out on whether he can be a true No. 1 receiver in the NFL, but getting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger back to full health is step No. 1 as he attempts to rebound in 2020. Fantasy owners surely won't be targeting him as a strong WR1 this fall.

Apr 22 5:23pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster will not be traded to the San Francisco 49s, according to a well-placed source Wednesday, April 22. Smith-Schuster had previously been linked to the Niners in trade rumors.

Fantasy Spin: Smith-Schuster would have left a gigantic hole in the Steelers' passing attack. He had a disappointing 2019 campaign, but he should return to high-end WR2 form in 2020 with QB Ben Roethlisberger back under center.

From TheHuddle

Apr 3 2:03pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Shuster ranked third in the NFL, and second among wide receivers, in 2019 with his average of 5.9 yards per contact per reception.

Fantasy Spin: JJSS was infamously one of fantasy's biggest busts of 2019, totaling only 73.2 fantasy points (standard scoring) in 12 games. But don't forget his injury issues or the Steelers' myriad QB issues with Ben Roethlisberger going down for the year in Week 2. Smith-Shuster is a mid-round draft value with WR1 bounce-back potential.

From TheHuddle

Feb 23 9:53pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster had eight catches on 11 targets in the six quarters he played with QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) in 2019, and Brooke Pryor of ESPN believes Smith-Schuster needs another 'reliable offensive weapon' to be at his best.

Fantasy Spin: While Smith-Schuster's numbers would have been better with a healthy Roethlisberger under center, we still don't know if he can replicate his monster 2018 numbers as the go-to option of the passing attack.
