2021 RTSports Outlook

Penny tore his ACL in Week 13 and missed the rest of the season. He will be a question mark to be ready for the start of this coming season. He wasn't doing a whole lot before the injury, though, in a reserve role for the Seahawks. He played his best football the last two games of his season, rushing 29 times for 203 yard and two touchdowns. He had just 167-rushing yard his other eight games. Penny did make plays when on the field, averaging an impressive 5.7 yards per carry. Chris Carson is blocking Penny from earning a bigger role. You can't count out Penny to overtake Carson, but right now, Carson is the starter for the Seahawks. Penny is good between the tackles and has enough speed to make plays to the out-side. He also catches the ball pretty well and puts forth good effort in pass protection. He does lack top-end speed, though, and can be brought down easily by defenders despite his size.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Penny is a good late-round pick because there is a chance he starts at some point during the season. He has enough talent to start in this league and do well. But as long as Carson is start-ing, expect around 700 total yards and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny was on his way to having the best season of his young career in 2019. In 10 games, Penny ran for 370 yards and three touchdowns off of 65 attempts and served as a suitable backup for Chris Carson. However, his season became derailed in early December when he suffered a torn ACL against the Los Angeles Rams, an injury that required surgery and ended his year prematurely. Heading into 2020, the 24-year-old will likely begin the year on the PUP list, and, with Chris Carson seemingly healthy after dealing with a hip ailment, Penny has relatively little fantasy value. If he does manage to return sometime down the line, Travis Homer and the newly drafted DeeJay Dallas will be looking to maintain a firm grasp on whatever role they assume during the season.

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny's fifth-year option was declined Monday, May 3.

From TheHuddle

Apr 21 9:23pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) is healthy heading into the 2021 season, and RB Chris Carson believes he and Penny can form an effective tandem. 'We both bring different things to the game, different attributes, but we complement each other so well,' Carson said. 'I just feel like his limit is ridiculous once he starts getting his feet wet in the game. I think it'll be something special.'

Fantasy Spin: The former first-round pick has battled a variety of injuries in his career, and he has been largely ineffective when he has been on the field. At best, Penny is a potential handcuff for Carson owners.

From TheHuddle

Jan 9 3:40pm ET

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny (knee) is inactive for Sunday's playoff contest against the Los Angeles Rams. With Penny out, expect to see Carlos Hyde serve as the primary backup for Chris Carson. Hyde doesn't have much upside against this Rams Defense, though Carson should have a large-enough role to make him a nice floor play in DFS.

From RotoBaller

Jan 9 3:23pm ET

The Seattle Seahawks have declared OT Chad Wheeler, CB Linden Stephens, TE Luke Willson, TE Colby Parkinson, RB DeeJay Dallas and RB Rashaad Penny inactive for Wild Card Weekend.

From TheHuddle

Jan 8 8:43pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) has been added to the injury report and is now listed as questionable for the Wild Card playoff game.

From TheHuddle

Jan 8 4:10pm ET

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny (knee) was added to the injury report on Friday and is listed as questionable to play against the Rams on Saturday in the wild-card playoff game. The good news is that Penny was limited in practice on Friday, but late additions to the injury report usually are never a good sign. Alex Collins was also elevated from the practice squad to the active roster, another sign that Penny won't be active on Saturday. Rookie DeeJay Dallas could see some more scraps behind Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde if Penny is unavailable, but Carson is the only real fantasy relevant back in the first round of the playoffs. In just three games in 2020, Penny has 11 carries for 34 yards and hasn't caught a single pass.

From RotoBaller

Jan 7 6:13pm ET

Seattle Seahawks CB Shaquill Griffin (hamstring) was added to the injury report Thursday, Jan. 7, and is listed as questionable for the NFC Wild Card game against the Los Angeles Rams. DT Jarran Reed (oblique) was limited in practice for a second consecutive day Thursday and is also listed as questionable. RB Chris Carson (foot, rest), OT Duane Brown (knee, rest), S Jamal Adams (shoulder, hand) and RB Rashaad Penny were limited Thursday but no longer appear on the injury report. OT Brandon Shell (ankle), OG Damien Lewis (neck), S K.J. Wright (ankle), TE Greg Olsen (foot), OG Mike Iupati (neck), RB DeeJay Dallas (ankle), S Damarious Randall (non-injury) and DT Bryan Mone (ankle) practiced in full Friday and have also been removed from the injury report. RB Carlos Hyde (illness) was not given a practice designation for a second straight day Thursday but is also expected to be active.

From TheHuddle

Jan 1 7:13pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB DeeJay Dallas (ankle) and CB Jayson Stanley (hamstring) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 17 versus the San Francisco 49ers. OG Mike Iupati (neck) and RB Carlos Hyde (illness) also did not practice all week but are listed as questionable. TE Greg Olsen (foot) was upgraded to a limited practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as questionable. OT Brandon Shell (ankle, non-injury) and S Damarious Randall (foot, non-injury) were limited in practice for a second consecutive day Friday and are also listed as questionable. OT Duane Brown (knee, rest), S Ryan Neal (hip), RB Chris Carson (foot), RB Rashaad Penny (knee), S Jamal Adams (hand), DT Bryan Mone (ankle), Carlos Dunlap (foot), WR Freddie Swain (shoulder), LS Tyler Ott (back), DT Jarran Reed (chest), LB Shaquem Griffin (hamstring) and DE L.J. Collier (ankle) practiced in full Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

Seattle Seahawks RB DeeJay Dallas (ankle), CB Jayson Stanley (hamstring), OG Mike Iupati (neck), TE Greg Olsen (foot) and OT Duane Brown (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 31. OT Brandon Shell (ankle), S Ryan Neal (hip), S Damarious Randall (foot), RB Rashaad Penny (knee) and LB Shaquem Griffin (hamstring) were limited during practice. S Jamal Adams (hand), DT Bryan Mone (ankle), DT Jarran Reed (chest) and DE Carlos Dunlap (foot) fully participated in practice.

From TheHuddle

Dec 19 4:53pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Dec. 19.

Fantasy Spin: Penny will mix into a now-crowded backfield led by Chris Carson and also featuring Carlos Hyde. Penny won't be a safe fantasy option with Carson the only one of the three worth starting in any format when all are available.

From TheHuddle

Dec 19 11:10am ET

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny (knee) is on track to make his season debut Sunday against Washington, with the team planning to activate him prior to kickoff. Penny has been sidelined all year while rehabbing a torn ACL, but he should immediately enter the rotation out of the backfield. Chris Carson has seen a consistent workload as the Seahawks' top back, so Penny's activation likely hurts the fantasy intrigue of Carlos Hyde and DeeJay Dallas the most. After multiple weeks earlier in the year with very few running back options, Seattle has suddenly found itself with a plethora of options, which could mean a division of labor down the stretch. Penny is not yet worth an add in season-long formats, but it's worth monitoring his workload as he could be a solid single-game DFS contributor at some point in 2020.

From RotoBaller

Dec 18 6:53pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) has reportedly 'drawn strong reviews' for how he has practiced the last two weeks, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson.

Fantasy Spin: There's still been no indication whether or not Penny will be activated for Sunday's game with the Washington Football Team, but it seems as though things are moving in that direction. Penny is unlikely to make much of an impact for the remainder of the regular season considering how much time he has missed, but his potential return could be a small hit to Chris Carson's fantasy value over the final few weeks of the fantasy season. He's also worth a stash in dynasty leagues in which he may have been dropped.

From TheHuddle

Dec 14 9:03pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) will participate in practice this week and has a chance to play in the Week 15 game, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

From TheHuddle

Dec 12 11:10am ET

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny (knee) has rejoined the team at practice ahead of its Week 14 matchup against the Jets on Sunday and has already drawn rave reviews from head coach Pete Carroll. Deemed a "very positive initial return," it sounds as if the Seahawks will ease Penny back into action, but the head coach made it clear that Penny is expected to play a significant role down the stretch and potentially into the postseason. With Penny back in the mix, Seattle's backfield could suddenly become crowded with Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde possibly ceding way to giving Penny consistent touches as well. While it may not happen as soon as Sunday, the Seahawks are heading toward a by-committee rushing unit, which is sure to deliver a blow to Carson's fantasy value at some point in 2020.

From RotoBaller

Dec 10 1:13am ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) was designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Spin: Penny hasn't played since Dec. 8, 2019, and with Carson and Hyde in place there's no reason to rush him back. His fresh legs could be helpful in the playoffs, but that would be too late for fantasy owners.

From TheHuddle

Dec 9 4:30pm ET

The Seattle Seahawks designated running back Rashaad Penny (knee) and cornerback Quinton Dunbar (knee) to return to practice from the Injured Reserve on Wednesday. Both players can return to practice this week, but that doesn't mean they'll be active in Week 14 against the Jets. Penny hasn't played all year after suffering a devastating knee injury late last season in which he tore multiple knee ligaments. Even if the 24-year-old from San Diego State returns later this season or in the playoffs, he's unlikely to have a significant role behind Chris Carson, Carlos Hyde and rookie DeeJay Dallas. Penny can remain on the waiver wire in the majority of fantasy leagues. Dunbar's eventual return will be a boost to a Seattle secondary that has been playing much better lately.

From RotoBaller

Dec 7 8:43pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) will participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Spin: Penny may need a few weeks of practice before he can return to the lineup, so fantasy players can monitor the situation. The Seahawks have Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde at running back, so it is not known how much Penny will be used. He probably will not be a great fantasy option this season.

From TheHuddle

Dec 5 9:33am ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) will return to practice next week 'for sure,' according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Fantasy Spin: Even if Penny were to resume playing before the end of the season, RBs Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde would likely continue to receive the bulk of the playing time in the Seattle backfield, giving Penny very little fantasy appeal.

From TheHuddle

Dec 3 12:03am ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) has been on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list all season, and the team is still waiting to get the official word on if Penny will be able to return or is done for the season.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy owners need not worry about Penny in 2020, as Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde would likely handle a majority of the workload even if he were able to return. His touches would be limited if he can play, so no fantasy appeal.

From TheHuddle

Nov 24 4:03pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) has a chance to practice for the first time this season next week, according to comments made by head coach Pete Carroll on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
