2024 RTSports Outlook

Tagovailoa took a big step forward last year under new coach Mike McDaniel. He had a breakout season, leading all of football in touchdown percentage, yards per attempt and yards per competition. He did a great job of taking advantage of the top weapons in the Dolphins passing game. He had five of 13 games with 20-plus fantasy points. Tagovailoa had 25 touchdowns, averaging nearly two per game. Concussion issues are a huge concern going forward, though. He suffered three last year, including one that ended his season early. Hopefully, this isn't a recurring theme for Tagovailoa going forward. He will continue to be the starter in the Dolphins high-powered offense. Tagovailoa can make all the throws and does well on the move. He has some struggles with accuracy down the field, though, and will force some throws. He is best on short, quick throws, getting the ball out in a hurry. He also doesn't have great size for the position, which has shown in his first three seasons in the NFL.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Tagovailoa has big injury concerns, but can be a legit No. 1 when on the field and playing. The numbers don't lie. He might miss on some throws he should make, but his fantasy numbers should be just fine in the end. He can throw for 4,000 yards with around 35 total scores and 10 interceptions.

The Miami Dolphins re-signed offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn (quadriceps) to an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday, according to his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Shawn O'Dare. Wynn will return to South Beach for his second season with the team. He started seven games for the Dolphins last year before landing on Injured Reserve with a quadriceps injury. The 28-year-old former 23rd overall pick of the New England Patriots in 2018 out of Georgia was great in pass protection for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa before his season-ending injury, but he proved to be a liability as a blocker for the running game. Wynn has started 47 of the 50 games he's played in his career through five NFL seasons, but he's going to need to improve his run-blocking if he wants to continue in a starting job on Miami's offensive line in 2024.

The Miami Dolphins agreed to terms on Monday with former Tennessee Titans center Aaron Brewer on a three-year deal worth $21 million, according to a source. Brewer, who started 40 of the 58 games he played in over his four seasons with the Titans since 2020, will take over for Connor Williams as the Dolphins' starting center in 2024 and beyond. The 26-year-old will join an offense that ranked sixth in rushing offense while helping running back Raheem Mostert go off for a career year. Brewer excels in run-blocking, which is more good news for Miami's RBs, but he's had issues in pass protection, which could be bad news for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Williams started the majority of the games at center for the Dolphins last year before tearing the ACL in his knee in early December.

The Miami Dolphins have questions up and down their offensive line this offseason, both in terms of their starting lineup and depth. It's unclear if star left tackle Terron Armstead will retire or return in 2024. It's unclear if the team can afford to bring back 26-year-old Connor Williams (knee), who is arguably the best center set to hit the free-agent market and is also coming off a torn ACL. Guard Robert Hunt is also eligible for free agency. The Athletic's Jim Ayello writes that addressing an offensive line charged with protecting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and opening lanes for their strong rushing attack is one of the biggest challenges that the Dolphins have this offseason in free agency and in the NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said he "absolutely" hopes to get a long-term contract extension done with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this offseason. Tagovailoa is currently set to play the 2024 season under his fifth-year option unless the two sides can agree on an extension this offseason. The 25-year-old led the NFL in passing yards with 4,624, although his lack of rushing prowess has held him back from being among the elite QBs in both real life and fantasy. But Miami's offense was among the most explosive in the league last year, and Tagovailoa should continue to have a stable floor as at least a low-end QB1 as long as receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are around. It would be a surprise if the Dolphins and Tua didn't agree on an extension this offseason.

Feb 22 12:10am ET

Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead is fully expected to return in 2024 to play another season. Armstead left his playing future in doubt in January after the team was eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round of the playoffs, but it appears that he plans to continue playing. His 2024 salary, which is already partially guaranteed, will become fully guaranteed on March 16. The 32-year-old Pro Bowler has dealt with injuries in each of the last three seasons, which is probably the biggest reason why he was initially considering retirement. But when he's healthy, Armstead is one of the best left tackles in rfootball, so his announcement to return for another season is good news for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the rest of the Dolphins offense.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is coming off a career-best year in 2023, expects to sign a long-term contract extension with the team this offseason, he told reporters on Friday. "There's been communication," Tagovailoa. "I think the thing with that right now is I'm just letting the team talk to my agent and let them work that out." He is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2024 after leading the NFL with 4,624 passing yards while also setting career-highs with 29 touchdown passes and 17 games played. It was the first time he played in a full season in his four-year career. The Dolphins brass has long been supportive of him publicly and picked up his fifth-year option last year. The fact that the Dolphins are around $51 million over the salary cap entering the offseason with critical decisions to make on other star players on the team makes extending Tagovailoa a bit more tricky.

The Athletic's Mike Sando discusses a couple different options the Miami Dolphins have with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is heading into the final year of his rookie deal in 2024. The most palatable option could be trading him for someone like Vikings QB Kirk Cousins and some draft picks. "Your upside with Tua certainly seems limited," an executive said, "so let's say you can trade him. I would be exploring, 'OK, Tua, we can win games with, probably not winning a championship with. Kirk Cousins, we can win games with, probably not winning a championship with. But our resources are better spent on Cousins plus draft picks than they are on just Tua." The most logical option could be to let him play out his fifth-year option and potentially go the franchise-tag route. "He is at the level of quarterback that is hard to commit to," another executive said. "But it becomes really tricky when you start betting against your quarterback like that."

Jan 15 7:20pm ET

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said on Monday that the goal is to have quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in Miami for the long term. Tagovailoa has one year remaining on his rookie deal, and Grier said the team will continue to communicate with him and his representation in the offseason. The 25-year-old is due for a long-term contract extension after two excellent seasons the last two years, but the problem for the Dolphins is that they are projected to be around $40 million over the 2024 salary cap, so giving Tagovailoa an extension will likely come at the cost of other important pieces on the team. After concussion issues in 2022, Tagovailoa played in all 17 regular season games in 2023 and led the league with 4,624 passing yards while throwing a career-high 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The first-time Pro Bowler will be a solid midrange QB1 target in fantasy this fall.

From RotoBaller

Jan 14 12:50pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa isn't worried about a contract extension and remains confident in himself after a 26-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs as he heads into the final year of his rookie deal. "I don't feel any pressure at all. I have full trust in myself," Tagovailoa said. "I have full trust in what I'm capable of doing for our organization, but outside of that we're focusing on tonight and what happened, we're going to simmer on this and see what we can do to get better from it." After dealing with two concussions in 2022, he started all 17 games for Miami in 2023 and led the NFL in passing yards (4,624) while setting career-highs in passing yards, touchdowns (29) and completion percentage (69.3), so despite the disappointing finish, the 25-year-old should be a strong QB1 option once the elite names come off the board in fantasy drafts this fall.

Dynasty | Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed just 20-of-39 passes for 199 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a blowout Wild Card loss to the Chiefs. Dynasty Analysis: Tagovailoa started out the season on fire but fell off a bit in the second half as the weather turned cold and the Dolphins started playing tougher competition. Still, Tua had a solid year with 4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Most importantly, he played in every game and avoided injury - something dynasty managers were petrified of entering the season. The Dolphins are going to need to go back to the drawing board a bit with their offense but Tua's health gave dynasty managers a nice boost of confidence in terms of his future value this season.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Jan 12 10:40pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has had moments as a top fantasy quarterback this season, but also as one of the worst. All year long, he's been an all-or-nothing fantasy piece and since Week 14 he's posted QB2-type numbers. In their final two games, the offense scored a combined 33 points compared to allowing 77. To make matters even worse, the forecast calls for bitter cold that will make it one of NFL history's coldest games of all time. In the last 10 games, dating back to 2017, when the kickoff temperature was 40 degrees or colder, the Dolphins are 0-10. While Tagovailoa does have the potential to pop off given his threats at wide receiver, this cold-weather game doesn't seem to play in his favor.

From RotoBaller

Jan 8 10:30am ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa finished out the regular season in disappointing fashion as he posted his fifth QB2 performance in a row on Sunday night. He finished the game against the Buffalo Bills with 173 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while completing 17 of his 27 pass attempts. With Jaylen Waddle (ankle) missing this game, Tagovailoa targeted Tyreek Hill 13 times and didn't look another pass-catcher's way more than three times. So, it allowed the Bills to focus on one side of the field and it forced Tagovailoa into a couple of turnovers. With that being said, he did finish in QB1 territory for the season, but he didn't do much to increase his draft stock in fantasy drafts next season.

From RotoBaller

Jan 6 4:20pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been through the wringer over the last three weeks as he took on top defenses in the Jets, Cowboys, and Ravens. He wasn't able to tough out a QB1 performance in any of those matchups. As a matter of fact, he hasn't finished in QB1 territory since Week 13 against the Washington Commanders. In Week 18, the Dolphins need a win over the Buffalo Bills to finish as the second seed in the AFC. The issue is that the Bills rank seventh against the passing game. On top of that, the risk with playing Tagovailoa in the final week is that he's been all-or-nothing all year long. He could be QB1 or low-end QB2, so his inconsistency could make him a scary fantasy play in leagues or DFS.

From RotoBaller

Jan 1 6:20pm ET

The Miami Dolphins don't seem too worried about quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's shoulder injury. "I'm not really worried about it. Just where he is in the season, how crazy competitive he is, it's not a real big blip on my radar right now," head coach Mike McDaniel said. Tagovailoa injured his left shoulder late in Sunday's blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens and was a little sore on Monday, but the 25-year-old should be available to face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night in Week 18 in a contest that will decide the winner of the AFC East. He'll be looking for a bounce-back performance after throwing for 237 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 17 loss. However, he could be without wideout Jaylen Waddle (ankle) for another game. With several prominent QBs potentially being rested in the final week of the regular season, Tagovailoa will firmly be on the QB1 map against Buffalo in Miami.

From RotoBaller

Dec 31 5:30pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (shoulder) exited Sunday's blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He didn't return. The signal-caller injured his left shoulder late in the fourth quarter, so the decision was made to keep him out for the remainder of the contest. Fortunately, Tagovailoa reported postgame that his shoulder is "good," adding that he was experiencing soreness. He'll likely undergo further testing to determine the extent of the injury, meaning there's a chance he may not be available in Week 18. However, with the AFC East up for grabs, Miami needs Tagovailoa healthy versus the Bills. If not, Mike White will likely be under center. Still, with White at the helm, guys like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle (ankle), assuming he's available, probably won't be as impactful on the fantasy end.

From RotoBaller

Dec 31 4:10pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (shoulder) departed during the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens and is officially questionable to return. Given that the Dolphins are trailing by five touchdowns, it's safe to assume that the talented signal-caller won't return, leaving Mike White in line to finish the game under center. Tagovailoa finishes Week 17 having completed 22 of 37 passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 14 yards and took two sacks. Assuming he's healthy enough to play in next season's regular-season finale, Tagovailoa will rank as a high-end QB2 with a division title on the line versus Buffalo.

From RotoBaller

Dec 30 12:50pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is hovering outside of QB1 territory on the year as he sits at 13th. He hasn't posted a QB1-level week since Week 13 when he finished as the QB10 against the Washington Commanders. Despite leading the team to wins over the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets, he finished as the QB22 and QB23. Tagovailoa tends to land on either extreme, if he isn't a high QB1, then he disappoints by a wide margin. This time around, he was dealing with a left thumb and quad issue, but will play through the ailments. Going up against the highest-scoring defense that just forced five interceptions against the San Francisco 49ers is worrisome for any fantasy managers thinking of starting Tagovailoa. He can be considered a QB2 heading into this tougher matchup.

From RotoBaller

Dec 28 9:30pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (thumb, quad) was a limited participant during Thursday's practice session. This is now back-to-back days that Tagovailoa has been limited during practice. Despite that, fantasy managers shouldn't panic as this seems more for rest purposes. Tagovailoa should be fine for the upcoming Week 17 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Fantasy managers should check back on Friday for another update on his status. Tagovailoa should be treated as a low-end QB1 for this tough matchup.

From RotoBaller

Dec 27 7:50pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (quadriceps, thumb) is listed on the Week 17 injury report with multiple injuries and was limited in the team's practice on Wednesday. Tagovailoa isn't 100 percent healthy heading into a big-time matchup against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday, but his two injuries also don't appear to be serious enough to keep him from playing this weekend. However, the 25-year-old left-handed QB could be without No. 2 wideout Jaylen Waddle (ankle) in a tough matchup on the road in Baltimore. Tagovailoa has been the QB11 in total fantasy points in 2023 and will be a low-end QB1 for fantasy managers during championship week in the tough matchup against the Ravens defense.

From RotoBaller

Dec 23 12:40pm ET

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hasn't exactly been the poster boy for consistency when it comes to fantasy performances this season. Seemingly, every big outing is followed by a dud although he's been playing well enough for the Dolphins to sit at the top of the AFC East at 10-4. Since Week 8, Tagovailoa hasn't posted a single 20-point fantasy outing and has finished as QB23 or worse in three out of the seven games. In fact, only two of those weeks were QB1 finishes. While he was able to put together a quality stat line against the New York Jets in Week 15, he'll have to produce a bit more against a Cowboys team that has a much better offense. He can be considered a QB2 with borderline QB1 upside in Week 16.
