2025 RTSports Outlook

Maye didn't open his rookie season as the starter but quickly got the job and never looked back. He was 23rd in fantasy quarterback scoring despite not getting the starting gig until Week 6. Maye had seven of 12 starts with 20-plus fantasy points. Maye completed 66.6 percent of his passes and had 17 total touchdowns to 10 interceptions. And Maye did this with an offense lacking a lot of top options in the passing game. Maye is the franchise quarterback the Patriots have been looking for since Tom Brady left. He also should get a lift this year, getting a chance to work with new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Maye has a top arm, having the ability to make all the throws needed in the NFL. He is accurate and does well on the deep ball for a young player. He also does well with using his legs and picking up tough yards if needed. He will force some throws, though, and won't always make the right read. He will need to cut down on the interceptions if he hopes to be a star in the NFL.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Maye is another young fantasy quarterback on the rise. He can build on last year and be a low-end No. 1 for fantasy teams. He can throw for around 3,500 yards and 25 total touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is in a prime position to take a second-year leap forward. The Patriots have overhauled their offense by improving on the offensive line and bringing in offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels who has a history of success with young quarterbacks. Maye was a legitimate streaming option at quarterback in 2024. He threw for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 13 games. Most notably, Maye rushed for 421 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His athleticism could unlock a serious fantasy season, especially since Maye was already a legitimate streaming option as a rookie. Additionally, the Patriots added wide receiver Stefon Diggs in free agency and drafted running back TreVeyon Henderson. The offense could still use another weapon or two, but those two additions are enough to boost Maye's stock. In 2024, Maye displayed toughness in the pocket and immense talent. With the stability the Patriots appear to be attempting to provide, Maye could thrive. Year 2 is often the season in which quarterbacks take a massive leap forward. There is certainly no reason to believe that Maye will take a step back this season. Maye is being drafted as a mid-range QB2, but do not expect him to finish there. RotoBaller has Maye ranked at QB15, which is slightly higher than his ADP. This is a player that many could be kicking themselves for passing on during fantasy draft season.

The Athletic's Chad Graff reports that New England Patriots second-year quarterback Drake Maye struggled in his first practice at organized team activities on Tuesday. Nobody should be putting too much stock into it, but Maye tossed four interceptions on his 16 pass attempts with the defense dominating early on. Three of the throws were outright misses, and one of them came on a batted pass on a throw behind his intended receiver. It's not all that surprising, though, with defenses usually ahead at this time of year and with Maye learning a new offensive scheme from Josh McDaniels. The 22-year-old former third overall pick eventually took over starting duties last year from Jacoby Brissett and predictably struggled for a Pats team lacking many offensive weapons. Drake showed signs of greatness, though, and he should be able to take a step forward in McDaniels' scheme with improved offensive weapons.

The New England Patriots selected LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft on Thursday night. This one was expected as the Patriots look to bolster their offensive line in front of young quarterback Drake Maye. There are concerns about Campbell's arm length as he heads to the next level, but he can make up for it with elite athleticism. Campbell has always been a left tackle in his football career and is expected to stick at the position as he heads to the NFL to protect Maye's blind side. The 21-year-old is excellent in run protection as well as protecting the quarterback. The Louisiana native stands at 6-foot-6, 319 pounds. Despite having short arm, Campbell has elite hands and uses them as well as anybody in this draft at the position. If he stays healthy, Campbell should be a staple for the Pats on the left side of the O-line.

New England Patriots brass traveled to Louisiana in recent days to visit with LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The Patriots have been linked to the All-American tackle with their No. 4 overall pick in this year's NFL draft and did more homework on him late in the process. The Patriots have been fielding calls to trade out of the fourth overall pick in the days leading up to the first round on Thursday night, but if they hold onto the pick and both Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter are off the board, they are expected to call Campbell's name as they try to build up their offensive line in front of young quarterback Drake Maye. The biggest knock on Campbell as a potential bust at the next level is due to his short arms for an offensive lineman.

ESPN's Matt Miller writes that Missouri offensive tackle Armand Membou could be in play for the New England Patriots at No. 4 overall in this year's NFL draft, as they've done a lot of homework on him as they look to improve their offensive line in front of quarterback Drake Maye. Scouts have also said the Patriots would be happy with either Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter or Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter if they are available. ESPN's Mike Reiss believes New England would consider a trade down if both Hunter and Carter are off the board. "If somebody has an offer for us, I think we'd be willing to listen," head coach Mike Vrabel said. It sounds like the Pats are open to a variety of possibilities, including LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell and Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham.

On Friday, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs (knee) noted that he's excited to play with quarterback Drake Maye. "I'm excited. I really look forward to it," Diggs said. The Maryland product was productive in eight games with the Houston Texans in 2024 before an ACL tear derailed his season. Now, he's set to boost the Patriots' passing game and is reportedly on track to be ready for Week 1. New England's leading receiver a season ago was tight end Hunter Henry (66-674-2), so the 31-year-old enters a favorable situation to garner a significant target share right away if he's healthy. The Patriots have somewhat bolstered their offensive line in free agency but still have some work to do in that aspect. If their front is addressed, affording Maye more time to operate, Diggs could again provide value as a PPR asset, barring a setback in his recovery.

New England Patriots general manager Eliot Wolf said last month that the team would take the "best player available" in the upcoming NFL draft with the fourth overall pick and doubled down on the statement again on Sunday during the team's annual draft party for season-ticket holders. The Patriots could still need a starting left tackle to protect second-year quarterback Drake Maye when the draft kicks off in April, which would make it a tough decision to pass on the likes of Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado two-way player Travis Hunter. If New England doesn't take the best player available at No. 4 overall and goes with need, the pick could very well be LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell. According to sources, the Patriots like Campbell despite his short arms, and they think that Hunter is the best player in the draft at both cornerback and receiver.

Former Minnesota Vikings first-rounder Garrett Bradbury reached an agreement on Tuesday on a two-year deal worth up to $12 million, including $3.8 million guaranteed, with the New England Patriots, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 29-year-old center was the 18th overall selection by Minnesota in the 2019 NFL draft out of North Carolina State and started all 88 games he played for the Vikings in his six years with the team. He is expected to replace recently released 10-year veteran and team captain David Andrews as the new center for second-year quarterback Drake Maye. It didn't take long for Bradbury to find a new home after he was just released by the Vikes on Monday. He's one of the league's smaller centers at listed weight of 300 pounds, so he could continue to struggle with big and power defensive tackles.

Free-agent right tackle Morgan Moses has agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract with the New England Patriots, according to NFL insider Albert Breer. Moses spent last season with the New York Jets following seven seasons with the Washington Commanders, one year with the Jets, and two years with the Baltimore Ravens. The 34-year-old has played in 166 NFL games with 158 starts. He will provide an instant upgrade and veteran presence along the Patriots offensive line that is tasked with protecting promising second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

Feb 11 11:00pm ET

ESPN's Adam Schefter writes that the New England Patriots will be a team to closely follow this offseason, mainly because they have a league-high $110 million in salary cap space. They'll have plenty of financial flexibility to upgrade a roster that needs to improve at almost every position as Mike Vrabel takes over head-coaching duties. They could look to pay Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins $30 million a year while also upgrading their offensive line. Although he had an up-and-down rookie year, quarterback Drake Maye has a chance to develop into a star moving forward, especially if the Patriots give him more help in the passing game. Having the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft will also help New England's cause as they look to add immediate playmakers.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake May has been added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster after Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen opted out. The rookie out of North Carolina showed flashes in Year 1 despite a mediocre supporting cast, completing 66.6% of his passes for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He added 421 yards and two scores as a runner. The 22-year-old appears to be on an upward trajectory, but New England must address issues on the offensive line and wide receiver room under new head coach Mike Vrabel.

FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz reports that the New England Patriots are hiring former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone as their new offensive-line coach, according to sources. Marrone is a highly respected offensive-line coach around the league and will now be tasked with improving what was a bad unit in 2024 to better protect second-year quarterback Drake Maye. The 60-year-old coach was the head coach of the Bills from 2013-14 and the head coach of the Jaguars from 2016-20. Last year, he worked as a senior analyst for football strategy for Bill O'Brien at Boston College. He last worked in the NFL from 2022-23 with the New Orleans Saints as their offensive-line coach and is considered one of the brightest O-line coaches in the league. Marrone was the offensive-line coach for Nick Saban at Alabama in 2021.

According to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, the New England Patriots are hiring Josh McDaniels as their new offensive coordinator. McDaniels has had two prior tenures with the New England Patriots and will now be tasked to be a critical part of developing their new franchise quarterback, Drake Maye. McDaniels joined the Patriots for the first time in 2001 and eventually parted after the 2008 season to work for the Denver Broncos. He would then have a brief stint with the St. Louis Rams before returning to New England. He operated as the Offensive Coordinator for another ten seasons before becoming the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders for two seasons. During that short tenure, he held a disappointing 9-16 record. Now, he will return to where he spent 18 seasons, hoping to kickstart another dynasty with newly hired head coach Mike Vrabel. During his 18-year period with the Patriots, McDaniels won six Super Bowls. He was the offensive mind behind the record-breaking 2007 New England Patriots that went undefeated during the regular season. This is a positive sign for Drake Maye as he will have an experienced offensive coordinator with him who has had decades of professional winning experience.

Jan 5 2:10pm ET

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was pulled from Sunday's AFC East clash with the Bills. The Pats are playing for draft picks, so the signal-caller will finish by failing to connect on his lone pass attempt. He wasn't the most reliable rookie quarterback during the 2024-25 campaign, throwing for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, adding 54 carries for 421 yards and two touchdowns. It's obvious New England has work to do to bolster depth on the offensive side of the ball. With that said, dynasty managers can consider retaining Maye for at least another season to see how things play out, although he may not be a viable fantasy starter in 2025-26. With Maye presumably done for the remainder of Week 18, Joe Milton III is in under center and has already thrown a touchdown.

Jan 5 12:20pm ET

As expected, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (hand) is officially active and will start on Sunday against the division-rival Buffalo Bills in the Week 18 regular-season opener. Maye has been dealing with a right-hand injury, and although he was questionable to play, there was never much doubt that he'd be active to close out his rookie season. It's been an up and down first year in the NFL for Maye, as he enters Week 18 action with a 66.8 completion percentage, 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 12 games (11 starts). The North Carolina product has shown flashes of upside, though, and given the lack of talent around him, it's hard to be too critical of the rookie in his first year. Despite some starters resting around the league, Maye will merely be a QB2 with upside in Week 18 against a Bills defense that will be pulling starters early.

New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye (hand) is listed as questionable ahead of the Week 18 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said that Maye would start on Sunday. Now, Maye is in danger of missing the regular season finale due to a right hand injury. If he sits, Joe Milton III would be in line to start this weekend. Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett is also on the roster, but the Pats are likely to go with Milton over him. The former sixth-rounder is an intriguing prospect, but Milton isn't someone worth streaming especially against the Bills defense.

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt announced on Thursday that rookie quarterback Drake Maye (hand) will start on Sunday in the Week 18 regular-season finale against the division-rival Buffalo Bills. Van Pelt also said the intent is for Maye to play the entire game. The 22-year-old first-rounder was limited by a hand injury in practice on Wednesday, but he'll be good to go this weekend. The Patriots would secure the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL draft if they lose to a Bills team that is expected to play mostly backups, but New England wants to get Maye out there for one more game in what has mostly been a learning experience in his first year in the NFL. The third overall pick has completed 66.8% of his pass attempts for 2,276 yards, 15 TDs and 10 interceptions in 12 games (11 starts). He'll be a QB2 with upside in Year 2, but the Pats need to add more playmakers around him.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (right hand) was limited during Wednesday's practice. The rookie reportedly injured one of his fingers during last Saturday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Maye is expected to recover in time for Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills, and he's in line to start after head coach Jerod Mayo indicated all of New England's healthy starters would play. Nevertheless, it's an interesting story to monitor given that the Patriots would clinch the No. 1 draft pick with a loss on Sunday but could drop as low as No. 5 if they win. There has been ongoing speculation that the Patriots could rest Maye to preserve his health and secure the top pick, but as of now, it sounds like Mayo is going to roll out his starters in hopes of a Week 18 victory.

From RotoBaller

Jan 1 12:10pm ET

New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye is expected to make the start in the Week 18 regular-season finale on Sunday against the division-rival Buffalo Bills. "Drake is the starting quarterback. If he's healthy and ready to go, he'll play," head coach Jerod Mayo said. There has been speculation going around that the Pats will hold Maye out of the meaningless regular-season finale with the Bills likely resting most of their starters. The 22-year-old third overall pick out of North Carolina this year has certainly given Patriots fans enough to look forward to in the coming years as their franchise signal-caller, but he mostly struggled in 2024 with a terrible supporting cast around him on offense. Going into Week 18, Maye has completed 66.8% of his passes for 2,276 yards, 15 TDs and 10 interceptions while also scoring two TDs on the ground. He'll be a QB2 with upside in 2025.
