2024 RTSports Outlook

The Cowboys selected Schoonmaker in the second round of this year's draft. He is expected to get first shot to start for Dallas this year. He is a solid blocking tight end but also can help as a receiver. He runs plus routes for a tight end and has good hands. He will struggle a little with the contested catch and could add a little strength.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Schoonmaker has some potential as a starter in an offense that has produced good fantasy tight ends in recent years. He could rack up some targets, making him worth a look as a backup for fantasy teams. Just don't expect many huge games. He can get 50 receptions for 500 yards and a few scores.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Luke Schoonmaker (shoulder) had shoulder surgery recently but is "all systems go" for training camp this summer, according to a person familiar with the situation. Schoonmaker played in all 17 regular-season games in his rookie season in 2023 after being taken in the second round out of Michigan, but he didn't do much behind Jake Ferguson, catching only eight of 15 targets for 65 yards and two touchdowns. However, his shoulder injury may have been partially to blame. The 25-year-old could have a bigger role in his sophomore campaign in Dallas, but as long as Ferguson stays healthy, it's hard to envision Schoonmaker being very attractive for fantasy managers on a weekly basis. As long as Ferguson is healthy, Schoonmaker will be a blocker over a receiver.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Luke Schoonmaker ended up as the top fantasy scorer at the position for the team despite not getting as many targets as Jake Ferguson. The rookie caught both of his targets for 23 yards and a score which came in the red zone when he found an open part of the field over the middle. This was his second score of the season and he now has five catches for 37 yards so far this year. He's not very likely to be consistently relevant in fantasy football, so there should be better options in Week 12.
