League Rules

  • Money
    • League entry fee is $125 per team. There are side prize pools for the Toilet Bowl and Pick’ems. Pick‘ems entry is $10 and Toilet Bowl entry is $5.
    • There are no transaction fees and no in-season fees which allows the prize money to be fully collected and payable on draft day.
    • You MUST have cash on hand at the draft. The goal of the new league setup is to eliminate tracking people down for money, therefore all money must be turned in on draft day. Prize envelopes will be filled on the spot for all payouts. I also accept Venmo, but the same rules apply, I must receive your Venom at draft day or prior.
    • RT Sports cost is $100 which will be taken from the prize pool to pay for the site.
    • Prize payouts: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finishes. $10 per week to high score. $50 payout to highest scoring team overall. 1st place will receive 55% of remaining prize pool, 2nd place receives 35%, 3rd place receives 10%.
    • Draft day will always be the 3rd Saturday of August. Time and place subject to change, however date will remain consistent as of 2022 draft.

  • League Breakdown
    • The league will take place on RTSports.com
    • The league consists of 12 teams. We will play with no divisions, each team will play every other team and will play 3 teams twice. The schedule will be randomly generated by the website after the draft.
    • The draft will be an auction, each team will have $200 salary cap to build their squad.
    • The weekly starting lineup is as follows: 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1FLEX, 1K, 1DEF, 1IDP. A flex can be QB, RB, WR, or TE. IDP is Individual Defensive Player.
    • Total roster size is 16 players.
    • A player who is listed doubtful or worse on the NFL injury report can be placed on the IR and will not count as a roster spot, however they still count against your salary cap.
    • You may not IR players after the draft until Labor Day. Once it is Labor Day you may IR any player listed as doubtful or worse and pick up a player for your open roster spot, assuming you have enough salary cap space.
    • A player who is on a fantasy team’s IR and is listed Questionable or better on the NFL injury report for two consecutive weeks will be cut from that team’s roster and placed in the free agent pool.
    • A competitive lineup must be entered each week, no exceptions. Any form of collusion, quitting, starting players who are injured or on a bye, or any other form of cheating or non-competitive acts will be handled accordingly.
    • Be active! The league is meant to be fun and interactive. Do your research, enter competitive lineups and put the message board to use with some trash talk. Make Fantasy Football Fun Again!

  • Players & Contracts
    • Owners will sign drafted players to a contract of 1 to 3 years by posting a message to the website stating the contract. Not specifying a contract is assumed as a 1-year deal.
      • Players who are selected during the fantasy draft can be signed any time from draft day to the kickoff of Week 1 of the NFL season
      • Players acquired through waivers or free agency must be signed within 7 days of acquisition
    • Players signed to multiple years will receive a raise of 25% in year 2 and 25% in year 3
    • Players on a 1-year deal can be cut at any point in the season.
    • If a player is signed to multiple years, the player may only be cut in-between seasons for a fee of $10 which goes into the coming year’s prize pool.
      • For example, if Team A decides to sign Caleb Williams to 3 years on draft day, and by week 6 decides that Caleb Williams is trash, Team A must keep Willaims on their roster until the following offseason at which point they can pay $10 to cut him back into the draft pool.
    • Players that are signed to multiple years and cut in the offseason will cost $10 but will not be a hit to that team’s salary cap. (In the above example, Team A could cut Williams in the offseason for $10 and get the entirety of his contract value back to his salary cap to use in the draft)
    • If you are cutting a signed player as an “offseason” cut, this MUST be posted to the message board no later than 1 week before the draft. For example, if our draft is Saturday, August 17th, you must post any cuts on the message board by 11:59pm on Saturday, August 10th. As of 12:00am Sunday, rosters will be locked for the draft. This enables me to make the draft board, draft sheets and website rosters completely accurate leading into the draft.

  • Acquiring Players
    • Waiver Wire
      • The waiver wire will be run on a blind-auction format. This means everyone who wants a player submits a bid without seeing the other teams’ bids. When the waiver period ends the highest bid gets the player.
      • Every team gets $1000 free agent acquisition budget (FAAB) at the beginning of the year to bid on free agents during the waiver period.
      • Bids can be any amount from $0 to $1000, however once you have spent your $1000 waiver budget you will only be able to bid $0 for waiver acquisitions. If someone bids $0 and nobody else makes a bid for the player, the $0 bid wins.
      • In the occasion of a tied bid, the team with the lowest record will receive the player. If record is tied lower total points will receive the player.
      • Only players who are acquired (you have the winning bid) are counted against your waiver budget. If you put in a $20 bid and lose to someone who bids $30, that $20 stays in your waiver budget for future bids.
      • As of 2024, Waivers will run each day from Tuesday through Saturday.
    • Free Agency
      • Once Friday’s waiver period processes Saturday morning, teams may now acquire players through free agency. Free agency will take place from the time waiver claims are granted until the players’ game starts that week.
      • There are no bids in free agency, a team may simply select an available player to add to their roster, as long as they do not go over the 16-player limit.
      • Transactions are free, make as many as you see fit.
    • Trades
      • Teams may complete trades at any point in the offseason, draft day, and during the season, up until the Trade Deadline which is after the completion of Week 11.
      • Teams can make any trade they see fit; however the league commissioner has veto power if the league believes the trade is not mutually beneficial or not on the up and up. My goal is to NEVER veto a trade as contracts, salary cap, etc. often comes into play. The only time I will veto is when it is outright collusion.
      • Trades can include multiple players, waiver acquisition budget and salary cap space. For example, if Team A is trading a player that costs $15 to Team B for a $2 player, Team A can trade $13 of salary cap to Team B in order for both teams to be under the cap. If this is the case please let me know that you are trading salary cap before processing the trade so I can update the website accordingly.
    • Cutting players
      • Players may be cut at any time in order to open room for new acquisitions
      • Players signed to multiple years can NOT be cut until the offseason for a $10 penalty ($10 due with upcoming draft dues)
      • When a player is cut, the cutting team will take a 50% cap hit (players w/ salary over $1)
        • For example, if Joe drafts Big Ben Roethlisberger for $20, and decides to cut him in week 6, he would only free up $10 of cap space on his roster. Likewise, Big Ben would then be available on waivers and free agency for $10 and could be signed for up to 3 years at that price.
        • As of 2021 Season: The prices shown on the website are accurate to what that player costs. The commissioner manually updates player’s prices, as well as team’s salary caps, as players are cut. You may not exceed your salary cap or the 16 man roster limit. The salary cap listed under your team capsules is accurate and has taken into account your cuts. Players on your IR count towards your salary cap. You may not exceed a 16 man roster or the $200 salary cap at any time.

  • Playoffs & Toilet Bowl
    • Playoffs will consist of the top 6 teams in the standings at the end of the year.
    • If there is a two-way tie, head-to-head record should resolve the tie. If head-to-head record is tied, or if a tie is between more than 2 teams, total points will be the tie breaker.
    • Playoffs and the Toilet Bowl will take place Weeks 15, 16, and 17. Toilet bowl is pay-to-play with the separate prize pool from the draft. Note: Teams that make the playoffs will not participate in the toilet bowl. Buying into the toilet bowl at the draft is more or less insurance – if you have a crap season you still have something to play for at the end.
    • In the first round of the playoffs, the 1 and 2 seeds get a bye, the 3 seed plays the 6 seed and the 4 seed plays the 5 seed.
    • Losers of the Week 16 semi-finals will play in Week 17 to determine who finishes in 3rd place (in the money).
    • Toilet bowl will be played as 1st round every man for himself, with the 4 highest scores being matched up in the Week 16 semi-finals, then the Toilet Bowl championship in Week 17.

  • Rule Amendments
    • 05/18/2019 - League housing website switched from NFL.com back to RTSports.com. Pick-em’s also housed on RT Sports.
    • 7/17/2021 – League schedule extended by one week to match NFL schedule. Playoffs now take place in weeks 14,15,16 instead of previous 13,14,15.
    • 11/24/2021 – Added the following clarifications to the rules (as discussed at 2021 draft):
      • Players on your IR count towards your salary cap, and you may not exceed the 16-man roster limit or your salary cap
      • Salary cap and player pricing is now accurate on the website at any given time
    • 06/09/2022 – Added set draft date to rules (as discussed at 2021 draft)
    • 06/24/2022 - Modified rules to reflect the addition of Doug as 13th team. No divisions. League average part of schedule. Top 6 teams make playoffs. Rosters cut to 15 players.
    • 08/02/2022 – Updated RTSports price from $90 to $100, will still come out of prize pool
    • Draft Day 2023 – As voted on at 2022 draft, teams must now start an Indiviudal Defensive Player each week. Rosters raised back to 16 to accommodate an IDP.
    • Draft Day 2023 – Voted and passed that teams are not allowed to IR a player until Labor Day. As of Labor Day Monday, you may IR players listed as doubtful or worse and add a free agent assuming you remain under the salary cap.
    • Draft Day 2023 – Voted and passed that teams must post any cuts they are making pre-draft to the message board 1 week before draft day. This allows me to make the draft board, draft sheets and website completely accurate leading into the draft. Cutoff will be 11:59pm the Saturday before Draft Day. If a player is not posted to the message board as of 12:00am Sunday, they will be locked into your roster for that season.
    • Draft Day 2024 – Rules updated to reflect Alec missing this season, back to 12 teams
    • Draft Dat 2024 - Rules updated to reflect Waiver changes – waiver periods each day from Tuesday through Saturday, FAAB moved from $100 to $1000
    • Draft Day 2024 – Rule voted and passed to award 1 point to DEF per turnover on downs stop.
