PLAYERS AND TEAMS
The mandatory roster size is 16 players at any position plus two team defenses/special teams.
The game day lineups will consist of the following:
The positions: QB, RB, WR, TE, K are all the same as in the NFL. The defenses and special teams are combined into one position. The offensive line is never used.
Teams are aligned into three four-team divisions. The divisions will be selected randomly each year on the day of the draft. Teams play 12 regular season games. Weeks 13-16 comprise the playoffs.
All 12 teams make the playoffs. Teams are seeded according to regular season records and ARE NOT BASED ON DIVISIONAL STANDINGS. Tie breakers are as follows, in order of importance: Head-to-head record (or, if multiple teams, record in the subset), Cumulative points scored in regular season games, Coin flip
The first four seeds receive a first round bye. Teams 5-12 play in week 13. The 5th seed plays the 12th seed, 6-11, 7-10, 8-9. The second round is played in week 14. The top seed plays the winner of 8-9, 2nd vs. winner of 7-10, 3rd vs. winner of 6-11 and 4th vs. winner of 5-12. Week 15 is the Semifinals and Week 16 is the TAFFL Bowl.
In weeks 14-16, the teams eliminated from the playoffs will compete in a free-for-all. There will be a free-for-all for all 12 teams in Week 17. The team scoring the most total points using the team’s ENTIRE ROSTER will earn $25.
SCORING
A team’s score is calculated based on the total of the basic and performance points described below. The team that scores the highest number of total points is the winner of the game. If there is a tie, the winner will be determined by the total number of points scored by each teams’ ENTIRE ROSTER.
Basic Points
Teams score basic points for each player in direct correlation with the number of points the player or defense/special team actually scored during a given game (i.e. - a player who rushes for a 17-yard touchdown scores six points, the point value given by the NFL for a touchdown).
The basic scoring for a player is as follows:
The basic scoring for a defense/special team is as follows: 6 points for a special team or defensive touchdown, 2 points per safety.
Performance Points
Teams score performance points based on a player’s yardage achieved throughout the game and based on criteria shown below by a defense/special team.
The performance scoring for a player is as follows:
The performance scoring for a defense/special team is as follows:
Other
If a player scores special team or defensive points and that individual player is on a TAFFL team roster, both the owner of the team defense/special teams and the owner of the individual player will receive the points. No special team/defense points are awarded on extra points at any time.
DRAFT
Owners may propose amendments to the rules before the draft begins. Such amendments will be decided by a majority vote of the owners. (A majority is 50% plus one, so a 6-6 vote fails.)
Each team may reserve up to four players from the previous year’s team, but only one of these players may be a quarterback. A team may not keep a player any more than three years. The player’s salary from the previous season is carried over to the current year. Team must submit their list of reserved players by an established date, usually 1-2 weeks before the draft. Each team has a $65 initial salary cap. Any players reserved from previous years count against this cap. Total team salary may increase during the year due to transactions conducted.
The draft is conducted by in auction format. A team owner announces the player, team, position, and opening bid (minimum $0.50). Raises in increments of $0.50 are then accepted from whomever (as long as the Auctioneer acknowledges them), and the players go once, twice, sold to the highest bidder.
The draft order is determined by random draw. The draft continues until all teams have filled their rosters with 16 position players and 2 special teams/defenses. No team may draft more than two special teams/defenses. There is no minimum/maximum on the number of players at any of the individual positions. Teams are not required to spend all $65 of their salary cap, but each team is required to pay the entire initial fee to the league regardless of the team’s total salary.
PLAYER TRANSACTIONS DURING THE SEASON
A player may be released at any time, but another player must be acquired to maintain the mandatory roster size. Any player released becomes a free agent.
Any player that is not currently on a team roster is a free agent and available to sign. Any free agents acquired during the course of the season is assigned a salary of $3. Free agents are signed on a first-come, first served basis.
Players may be traded between teams as long as each team maintains the mandatory roster size. Player salaries carry over between teams, as well as seniority (first, second or third year held). If a player is in his third year with a team and is traded, this player is still in his third year of contract and MUST be released at the end of the season.
Players may be placed on the reserve list if he is not on the official roster of an NFL team, listed on the NFL injured reserve list, listed on the NFL Physically Unable to Perform list, or if he is classified as “doubtful” or “out” in the official NFL injury report. Once the player signs with an NFL team, is removed from the NFL Physically Unable to Perform list, or his physical condition is upgraded to a condition other than “doubtful” or “out”, the team must activate the player or release him within one week. If a player on reserve has not been activated and ends up having any statistics for that week, (i) the owner will be fined $25 and (2) the player who was picked up when the player was placed on reserve will receive no TAFFL points that week.
