Williams can keep it going

I’m not sure this weekend can live up to the last, but let’s hope it happens. Wow, those games were unreal last weekend. Nearly every single one came down to the wire. And several saw multiple lead changes in the fourth quarter. Plus, we had some big-time fantasy performances, leading to some high fantasy scores in the first round of playoff leagues. Let’s keep it going!

Now for my random thoughts for the week. . . . .

Love him or hate him, I would hate to see Aaron Rodgers end his career on an interception that was returned for a touchdown. That would be a terrible way for it to end for him. I would be surprised if Rodgers returns, though, especially after Mike Tomlin left the Steelers. I think Tomlin was a big reason for Rodgers playing this year. I’m just not sure there is going to be a great fit for Rodgers going forward. We’ll see.

Personally, I would fire Nick Sirianni if I were the Eagles. I know they won the Super Bowl last year but I just can’t take all the drama with him and his star players. I know some of the players can be the blame, too, but it sure seems like a pattern with him. And I can’t get over the playcalling of this team. They did fire offensive coordinator Kevin Patella, which is a plus, but I’m not sure that fixes everything. This team has so much talent on both sides of the ball and should not have played like they did all season. I really think Sirianni is a huge part of the problem with this team. I would just move on from him. The window is only so big when it comes to the NFL and the Eagles could be closing sooner than later. Get someone in there that can bring some more stability to the team.

The Panthers lost but sure showed me a lot. This is a team that is going to be a problem the next several seasons. Things are just getting started for them. And I think head coach Dave Canales is a great coach and fit for the franchise. The big thing for the Panthers is the continued development of Bryce Young. He is going to need to keep growing and showing more consistency. Young is making improvements but still isn’t there yet. But you have to be excited about this team if you are a Panthers fan. There is some exciting, young talent on this team.

Houston won that game last week but you still have to worry about that offense. Just when think C.J. Stroud has figured it out again, he makes some head-scratching plays. He is going to have to play a lot better if they hope to win this week. The scary thing is the defense is so, so good in Houston. If the offense was just a little better, I think this team could make a run at the Super Bowl. The defense is that good. I’m just not sure Stroud is playing well enough for that to happen right now.

You have to love the development of Caleb Williams this year. I know he started slow in that game last week but his fourth quarter was epic, making one of the best throws you will ever see on fourth down to help win the game. Williams is a special talent that you could expect to keep getting better, especially under the tutelage of head coach Ben Johnson. Williams might be a top-five fantasy quarterback for me next year. I think he has that kind of ceiling.

HOT PLAYS

Davante Adams, WR, Rams. Adams failed to score a touchdown last week but looked healthy, which is a huge positive. Adams had five receptions for 72 yards and tied a season high in targets with 13. That was another huge positive. He should get a big workload this week against an iffy Bears secondary. Chicago allowed the sixth most fantasy points to receivers during the regular season. We like Adams to find the end zone in this one.

Caleb Williams, QB, Bears. Williams scored 28.05 fantasy points last week. He started slow but had an unbelievable fourth quarter, leading his team to a huge comeback victory. Williams has 21-plus fantasy points four of five games. He has become an elite fantasy quarterback and seems to be gaining confidence every week. We like him to have another big game this week against the Rams. This should be a high scoring game and the Rams have struggled against the pass recently. Los Angeles allowed 235-plus passing yards five of six games.

R.J. Harvey, RB,  Broncos. It took a little time but Harvey has emerged as the clear lead back for the Broncos. He has found the end zone five of his last six games. He has double-digit fantasy points all but one of those games. He should get a big workload again this week as the No. 1 back for Denver. He gets the Bills, a team that allowed the eighth most fantasy points to running backs. Buffalo has allowed 150-plus rushing yards three of five games.

COLD PLAYS

Bo Nix, QB, Broncos. Nix led his team to the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs, having a solid overall season. But from a fantasy perspective, he has been a little erratic. He scored just 11.95 points his last time out and has less than 20 points two of five games. And we could see the Broncos relying on the run more this week, exploiting a weakness of Buffalo. The Bills allowed the third fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks during the regular season. Buffalo has allowed fewer than 140-passing yards four of five games. The pass defense has been a huge strength for the team late in the year.

Stefon Diggs, WR, Patriots. Diggs is the top receiver for the Patriots but his production has been erratic at times this year, especially the last few weeks. He has just five receptions for 59 yards on eight targets his last two games. The opposition is locking him down some lately. We would not be surprised if that happens again this week against the Texans. Houston has maybe the best defense in football and allowed the third fewest fantasy points to receivers during the regular season.

James Cook, RB, Bills. Cook has fewer than nine fantasy points three straight games. He got 15 carries last week but managed just 46 yards. He had another great overall season but some tough rush defense late in the season has given Cook fits. It could be more of the same this week. The Broncos allowed the fewest fantasy points to running backs. Denver has allowed fewer than 85-rushing yards two of three games and three of five. This defense is going to give the Bills offense plenty of fits, especially against the run.

SLEEPERS

Cooper Kupp, WR, Seahawks. Kupp hasn’t had much of a season, his first in Seattle, but has enjoyed some success at times. He has double-digit fantasy points four times. You would expect the 49ers to do all they can to take away Jaxon Smith-Njigba, giving Kupp some favorable coverages. Plus, the 49ers are thin in the secondary, which is another big positive for Kupp. Don’t be surprised if he has one of his better games of the season this week. He has a history of success coming up with the big game in the playoffs, so the Seahawks could lean on him more than they did in the regular season.

Jake Tonges, TE, 49ers. Tonges has shown well when given the chance to start this year, having double-digit fantasy points five games. He has proved to be a reliable target at tight end for the 49ers. He could have another one of those double-digit games this week against the Seahawks. Seattle has struggled some at times against the tight end, allowing the 11th most fantasy points to tight ends. Plus, Tonges found the end zone against the Seahawks in Week 1.

Zach Charbonnet, RB, Seahawks. Kenneth Walker gets most of the headlines in the Seahawks backfield but this has turned into a real timeshare down the stretch. Charbonnet has at least 17 carries two straight games. He has 17-plus fantasy points three straight, producing consistent numbers in this high-powered rush attack. He has scored a touchdown in each of his games against the 49ers this year. Charbonnet can do that again this week, making him an intriguing fantasy play.

High/Low Scoring Games

Each week, we will take a look at some of the high and low-scoring games for the coming week. In high-scoring affairs, get your marginal players on those teams in your lineup to take advantage of the possible points barrage. And in the low-scoring games, keep those marginal players on the bench and make sure to have your defenses involved in those contests.

High Scoring Games: Rams/Bears.

Low Scoring Games: Texans/Patriots.

James Pearce Jr. Feb 8 11:30am ET
James Pearce Jr.

Atlanta Falcons rookie defensive end James Pearce Jr. was arrested on Saturday on two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, and fleeing/eluding police. The arrest came in Florida after Pearce crashed his car, following a police chase. Pearce, whom the Falcons traded their 2026 first-round pick to acquire in the 2025 draft, was in San Francisco days earlier for the NFL Honors, where he was nominated for Defensive Rookie of the Year. The Falcons have issued a statement, saying, "We are aware of an incident involving James Pearce Jr., in Miami. We are in the process of gathering more information and will not have any further comment on an open legal matter at this time." In addition to the criminal charges he faces, Pearce is now subject to investigation under the NFL's personal conduct policy that will likely lead to suspension.

George Pickens Feb 8 11:20am ET
George Pickens

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to place their franchise tag on Second-Team All-Pro wide receiver George Pickens. Dallas acquired Pickens via trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers before the 2025 season, and in his first season with the Cowboys, the fourth-year wideout set career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl nod. Should Pickens hit the open market, he would be the unquestioned prize of the wide receiver free agency class and could easily demand a top-of-the-market deal. By placing the franchise tag on him, the Cowboys would retain Pickens' rights at the cost of roughly $28 million for 2026, with the hope of working toward a long-term extension. Pickens is a borderline top-10 dynasty wide receiver, and his value should continue to rise if the Cowboys succeed in making Dallas his home for the foreseeable future.

Myles Garrett Feb 7 7:43pm ET
Myles Garrett

Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett is the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year, and despite the walkout of defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, owner Jimmy Haslam and general manager Andrew Berry aren't worried about the mindset of the star defender. 'We kept Myles abreast (of) the process throughout,' Berry said. 'So obviously he knew the news before you all did. Myles is a great team player and I'm not really worried about that.'

Christian McCaffrey Feb 7 6:13pm ET
Christian McCaffrey

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey was named the 2025 NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award. He led the 49ers in both rushing and receiving yardage in 2025, totaling over 2,000 scrimmage yards after playing just four games in 2024.

Fantasy Spin: It was a wild season for CMC, who managed to stay mostly healthy while others around him fell like flies. He left the NFL with 413 total touches, and that's a bit of a red flag for fantasy managers heading into 2026. He has had a propensity for injury, and after such a heavy workload, the injury potential is likely for next season. Buyer beware when we get closer to draft time.

Aaron Rodgers Feb 7 5:23pm ET
Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers is reportedly refreshed after his 2025 season, and one source said Rodgers is in a much better place coming out of this year with the Steelers compared to the past two seasons with the New York Jets. The addition of former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy in Pittsburgh, and offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio, might mean Rodgers gives it another season in Pittsburgh. Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco is a possibility, if Rodgers does not return, and Flacco isn't retained by the Bengals.

Cam Akers Feb 7 5:10pm ET
Cam Akers

The Seattle Seahawks have elevated running back Cam Akers from the practice squad ahead of their Super Bowl LX matchup with the Patriots. Seattle signed the six-year veteran before a Week 13 matchup with the Vikings, and he was made active for Seattle's regular-season finale against the 49ers, seeing the field for only one snap. With Zach Charbonnet (knee) tearing his ACL in the Seahawks' Divisional Round rubber match with San Francisco, Akers was made active for the NFC Championship, again seeing the field for only one snap. Along with Akers, Seattle has activated Velus Jones Jr., though neither is expected to have any impact on the game. George Holani, who carried the ball three times for four yards against the Rams, will continue to serve as the primary backup to Kenneth Walker III.

Kirk Cousins Feb 7 5:00pm ET
Kirk Cousins

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to be released before the start of the new league year in March. Coming off a torn Achilles tendon that ended his six-year tenure in Minnesota, Cousins signed a four-year, $180 million contract with Atlanta before the 2024 season, only to see the team select Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth pick in that year's draft. Across his 22 starts with the Falcons, Cousins has thrown 28 touchdowns to 21 interceptions, while going 12-10. By releasing him before the new league year, he will have the opportunity to sign with any team of his choosing in 2026, with some speculating that a reunion with the Vikings could be in the cards.

Kayshon Boutte Feb 7 4:50pm ET
Kayshon Boutte

For much of the season, New England wide receiver Kayshon Boutte has been one of the Patriots' most reliable big-play threats, even while topping five targets only once all season. The Patriots' offense has struggled of late, and they come into what many are projecting to be a low-scoring Super Bowl LX. Given the circumstances, Boutte is unlikely to volume his way to fantasy relevance, but he has repeatedly shown up at opportune moments, pulling in over 70% of his regular-season targets despite seeing them at an average depth of 17.5 yards. In a game where nobody benefits from leaving potentially explosive plays uncalled, Boutte has a strong chance of making a game-breaking downfield play, keeping him squarely in the DFS conversation.

From RotoBaller

Cooper Kupp Feb 7 4:40pm ET
Cooper Kupp

Seahawks veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp has played some of his best ball of the season in Seattle's playoff wins over the 49ers and Rams, and he could be in line for another high-volume performance in Super Bowl LX. After seeing five targets or more in only five regular-season games, he's hit that mark in back-to-back games. New England has the defensive personnel to at least make things difficult for Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and if they are able to limit him on Sunday, Kupp suddenly becomes an integral part of a Seahawks offense that very well could struggle to run the ball. Since his mid-season trade from the Saints, Rashid Shaheed has seen only 28 targets and 16 receptions across 11 games, making a secondary option like Kupp all the more important if New England can succeed at slowing down Smith-Njigba.

Kirk Cousins Feb 7 4:23pm ET
Kirk Cousins

Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins is expected to be released before the start of the new league year in March. That gives him a choice where or if he wants to play in the 2026 season, league sources said Saturday, Feb. 7.

Fantasy Spin: Cousins just restructured his contract, and recently he said he feels good wanted to play in 2026. It just appears that will be in another uniform, and it's uncertain if he'll be a starter or a backup.

From TheHuddle

Rhamondre Stevenson Feb 7 4:20pm ET
Rhamondre Stevenson

New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson averaged 25 opportunities per game against the Texans and Broncos, but against yet another top-five defense in the Seattle Seahawks, he may see those numbers drop. New England's last two games were each played in inclement weather, with the Patriots rarely trailing, but they enter Super Bowl LX as underdogs for the first time this postseason. While Stevenson, as the superior pass protector, is still likely to see the field more than rookie TreVeyon Henderson, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels approaches his tenth Super Bowl knowing that this game can't be won by playing things safely. Through either game script or a concerted effort to get more explosive players on the field, Stevenson, who topped eight carries only once over the final six games of the regular season, is unlikely to see the type of volume that he has in recent weeks, making him a low-floor DFS play.

Joe Flacco Feb 7 3:03pm ET
Joe Flacco

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco is a player that the Bengals are interested in re-signing this offseason, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

From TheHuddle

Travis Kelce Feb 7 12:03pm ET
Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce has not made an official decision on his playing future, but people close to him believe he could play again in 2026, according to sources.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation during the offseason to see if Kelce retires or continues playing. He will continue to be a solid part in the Chiefs passing game if he plays in 2026 and can be a low-end No. 1 tight end in leagues.

From TheHuddle

Kenneth Walker III Feb 7 11:10am ET
Kenneth Walker III

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III has had an excellent postseason so far, recording 256 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns on 45 touches across two games played. The 25-year-old spent most of the 2025 regular season splitting work with fellow Seahawks back Zach Charbonnet (knee). However, Charbonnet suffered a torn ACL in Seattle's Divisional Round win over the San Francisco 49ers, ending his postseason early and leading to an increased workload for Walker III. Walker III didn't fully dominate backfield time in the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams, as Seahawks RB2 George Holani played 34% of the team's offensive snaps. However, Holani earned just six touches, compared to 23 for Walker III. In Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots, Walker III should remain a heavy feature of the Seahawks' offensive game plan. Walker III is one of the NFL's most explosive running backs, which makes him a high-upside DFS play on Sunday even at an elevated price.

From RotoBaller

Stefon Diggs Feb 7 10:50am ET
Stefon Diggs

Across 17 games in the 2025 regular season, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns on 102 targets. However, the 32-year-old has not been quite as productive across three postseason contests, hauling in 11 catches for 73 yards and a score on 17 targets. In Super Bowl LX, Diggs is now facing a tough matchup against the Seattle Seahawks defense. Seattle finished the regular season ranked first among NFL defenses in yards per pass attempt allowed (6.0) and tied for seventh in passing touchdowns allowed (20). Diggs also faces playing time questions. New England has been judicious with his snap count throughout his first season with the team, and Diggs played just 47% of the Patriots' offensive snaps in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos. Between the matchup and his relatively limited production ceiling, Diggs may be a tough wide receiver for DFS fantasy managers to trust on Sunday.

From RotoBaller

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Feb 7 10:40am ET
Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was named the 2025 NFL Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday, cementing his case as the league's best pass-catcher this season. Across 17 games in the regular season, the 23-year-old hauled in 119 receptions for 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns on 163 targets. After a quiet performance in Seattle's blowout Divisional Round win over the San Francisco 49ers, Smith-Njigba returned to his usual dominant form in the NFC Championship Game, recording 10 catches for 153 yards and a touchdown on 12 targets. Smith-Njigba figures to be the focal point of the Seattle pass game once again in Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots. Across 19 total games this season, Smith-Njigba has recorded fewer than 18.3 PPR fantasy points just five times. While he will be a popular DFS option on Sunday, Smith-Njigba's consistency makes him a safe player to build lineups around.

From RotoBaller

Mac Jones Feb 7 10:30am ET
Mac Jones

The San Francisco 49ers are not looking to trade backup quarterback Mac Jones this offseason, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic. Russini reports that while "things and offers could change," 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan "loves what he has" in Jones. With San Francisco starter Brock Purdy missing eight games in 2025 due to injury, Jones played a critical role in keeping the 49ers' season afloat. Across his eight starts, the 27-year-old threw for 2,147 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Jones averaged 7.4 yards per pass attempt in 2025, his first time clearing 6.8 yards per attempt since his 2021 rookie season with the New England Patriots. San Francisco signed Jones to a two-year contract last offseason, so the team could easily decide to keep him until he reaches free agency after the 2026 season. However, if a quarterback-needy team views Jones as a potential long-term solution, it might make the 49ers an offer that is too good to pass up.

From RotoBaller

Travis Kelce Feb 7 10:20am ET
Travis Kelce

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has yet to decide whether he will return to the NFL in 2026, but that "many close to him believe he could return" and a "14th season is looking more real than ever." Kelce will turn 37 years old in October. While he's not the same player he was at his peak, the veteran tight end remained productive in 2025. Across 17 games, Kelce hauled in 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns on 108 targets. If Kelce does indeed decide to suit up in 2026, he will likely still be one of the top pass-catchers in Kansas City, particularly given the potential of a suspension for Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice. However, Kelce may be without Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (knee) for the early part of the year as Mahomes recovers from the knee injury that ended his 2025 season.

Maxx Crosby Feb 7 12:10am ET
Maxx Crosby

Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro pass-rusher Maxx Crosby (knee) said on Friday that he's ahead of schedule in his rehab from left knee surgery that he had around a month ago, according to ESPN. "I'm ahead of schedule, and it's business as usual," Crosby said. "It's my eighth surgery in seven years. It's something that I've gotten used to. It's all about perspective, about how you approach what you want to accomplish. I'm willing to run that marathon." The Raiders put the 28-year-old on Injured Reserve with two games left in the 2025 season, which started speculation about Crosby's future in Sin City. Crosby was not happy with the move and left the team's facilities. It's unclear exactly how Crosby feels, but there have been plenty of rumors that he doesn't want to go through another rebuild after the team finished 3-14 last year. Regardless of where he's playing in 2026, Crosby will remain a high-end DE in fantasy IDP leagues after posting double-digit sacks in three of the last four years.
