Packers place LT David Bakhtiari on injured reserve

Thu Sep 28 4:32pm ET
Field Level Media

The Green Bay Packers placed left tackle David Bakhtiari on injured reserve Thursday as he continues to deal with a knee injury.

The two-time, first-team All-Pro selection will be required to miss at least four games, but NFL Network reported that it is not clear whether he will return this season.

Bakhtiari, who turns 32 Saturday, was limited to one start in the 2021 season and 11 in 2022 due to a knee injury. He has had multiple knee surgeries since tearing his left ACL in December 2020.

He played Week 1 for Green Bay against the Chicago Bears but has not played since.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Bakhtiari has made 131 regular-season starts since entering the league with the Packers in 2013.

Ahead of Thursday night's home game against the Detroit Lions, the Packers also signed linebacker Kristian Welch from their practice squad and elevated cornerbacks Corey Ballentine and Kiondre Thomas from the practice squad to the gameday roster.

Under the Radar Plays: Week 4

Player Notes
Logan Thomas Sep 28 4:20pm ET
Logan Thomas

After missing Week 3 with an injury, Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas (concussion) could be a sneaky streaming option in Week 4. While the Commanders are heavy underdogs against the Philadelphia Eagles, there is the possibility for a negative game script emerging. The Washington offense showed next to nothing against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3, but in Thomas' absence, backup tight end Cole Turner led the team in targets. With a possibility for many pass attempts, quarterback Sam Howell could once again lean on the tight end position. Consider Thomas as a streaming option in Week 4.

Jordan Love Sep 28 4:13pm ET
Jordan Love

Dynasty | Christian Watson is expected to play in tonight's Thursday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions after missing the first three games of the season. Dynasty Analysis: Watson is currently ~WR26 in DLF dynasty rankings and 28th overall in September ADP, so expectations are high for him to produce in 2023. Jordan Love has performed above expectations while he's been gone, primarily relying on second year receiver Romeo Doubs, and rookies Jayden Reed and Luke Musgrave. Watson should open up the field with his deep speed and provide even more opportunities for Love. Dynasty managers should be patient with Watson, as he may be limited in his first game back in action.

Brian Robinson Jr. Sep 28 3:50pm ET
Brian Robinson Jr.

Despite his solid play as of late, Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. is looking like a risky play this week. The Commanders are taking on the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that is allowing the fewest rushing yards per game to opposing offenses this season. Not only is that an issue, but Washington is also an 8.5-point underdog, making the possibility for a negative game script a likely outcome. Based on the Eagles' defensive strengths, it looks like Robinson's best-case scenario is either falling into the end zone or seeing more usage in the passing game. Consider him a low-end RB2 in Week 4.

Irv Smith Jr. Sep 28 3:40pm ET
Irv Smith Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Irv Smith Jr. (hamstring) missed his second straight day of practice this week on Thursday. Smith was not active for Monday night's win over the Los Angeles Rams and is now in danger of missing his second straight contest in Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans. If the 25-year-old oft-injured tight end misses another game, expect Drew Sample and Mitchell Wilcox to once again split duties at the position, although neither player would be a very intriguing fantasy streamer. In his first two games with Cincinnati, Smith has been barely there in the Bengals offense, catching five of nine targets for just 27 yards and no touchdowns.

Austin Ekeler Sep 28 3:40pm ET
Austin Ekeler

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler (ankle) was seen stretching with the team on Thursday after he was limited in Wednesday's practice. Ekeler will likely be listed as limited in practice again on Thursday, giving him a chance to return this Sunday against the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders after he missed Weeks 2 and 3 due to a high-ankle sprain. The 28-year-old still isn't a lock to be active on Sunday, but things are certainly trending in the right direction. Ekeler is a must-start fantasy asset when he's on the field for the Bolts. Backup Joshua Kelley failed to deliver as the starting RB for LA the last two weeks with Ekeler sidelined, and he's being dropped in a lot of fantasy leagues with Ekeler trending towards returning against Vegas.

Justice Hill Sep 28 3:30pm ET
Justice Hill

Baltimore Ravens running back Justice Hill (foot, toe) made a return to practice on Thursday. Hill is dealing with turf toe that forced him to sit out of the Week 3 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He did not practice on Wednesday, but his return to the field should give him a chance to make his return for a Week 4 date with the division-rival Cleveland Browns on the road this Sunday. J.K. Dobbins (Achilles) is done for the year, so Hill will have a bigger role the rest of the way alongside Gus Edwards as long as he's healthy. If the 25-year-old RB returns this weekend, he'll be in play as an RB3/flex in PPR leagues. Through two games this year, he has 19 carries for 50 yards (2.6 yards per attempt) and two touchdowns while catching three passes for 12 yards.

Treylon Burks Sep 28 3:30pm ET
Treylon Burks

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks (knee) did not take part in practice on Thursday after being limited in Wednesday's session. Burks may have had a setback with his knee injury, but the Titans could also just be resting him before he returns to practice on Friday. Either way, the 23-year-old's status for the Week 4 game against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend is up in the air. The Titans offense hasn't been impressive at all through the first three weeks and will face a tough challenge against a Bengals defense that looked downright tough in their Monday night win over the Los Angeles Rams. Burks has taken a clear back seat to DeAndre Hopkins so far in the passing game this year and he has six catches for 99 yards on 13 targets heading into Week 4.

Rashod Bateman Sep 28 3:20pm ET
Rashod Bateman

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman (hamstring) missed his second consecutive practice on Thursday. The second-year wideout has been involved in the offense in a limited capacity, garnering just three targets in each of the first three games of the season that have added up to seven receptions and 59 yards. With rookie Zay Flowers the new focus of Baltimore's receiving corps and Mark Andrews' presence at tight end, Bateman's time in the sun seems to have already passed. The Ravens take on the division-rival Cleveland Browns in Week 4, but there is no reason to believe Bateman will be any more involved. He is safe to drop in most leagues.

Bryce Young Sep 28 3:20pm ET
Bryce Young

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young (ankle) said he's feeling "great" and is expected to play in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday. Young isn't concerned at all that his sprained right ankle will limit him after he sat out the Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He looked so good in Wednesday's practice that head coach Frank Reich said the No. 1 overall pick was trending toward starting against Minnesota, barring a setback. Young has impressed the team in practices, but he has yet to impress in his first two NFL games. The 22-year-old will have a much easier matchup against a weak Vikings defense if he plays this weekend, but he'll still be nothing more than a low-end QB2 play in superflex leagues.

From RotoBaller

Sam Howell Sep 28 3:20pm ET
Sam Howell

After an embarrassing outing against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3, Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell now has the misfortune of facing the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4. On the defensive side, the Eagles' biggest strength is their menacing line. Matched up with Washington's weak offensive line, Howell will likely be harassed in the pocket and have some additions to his league-leading 19 sacks taken. With little time to throw, there's a decent chance that the second-year quarterback will have another lackluster showing. Consider Howell a desperation play in Week 4.

From RotoBaller

Odell Beckham Jr. Sep 28 3:20pm ET
Odell Beckham Jr.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) is missing another practice on Thursday. Beckham suffered an ankle injury in Week 2, didn't practice at all last week and was inactive in the Week 3 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Unless he's able to get in some sort of practice on Friday, OBJ will be inactive for the second straight game this Sunday in Cleveland against his former team, the Browns. Fantasy managers that used the 30-year-old in a flex spot in the first two weeks of the season should be planning to go in another direction. With Rashod Bateman (hamstring) also yet to practice this week, rookie Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor and Devin Duvernay could be the Ravens' starting wideouts on Sunday.

From RotoBaller

Anthony Richardson Sep 28 3:10pm ET
Anthony Richardson

Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson (concussion) is at practice again on Thursday. His last step to clear the league's concussion protocol will be clearance by an independent neurologist. Richardson was listed as a full practice participant on Wednesday, so it seems like only a matter of time before he gains full clearance to return for a Week 4 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. The 21-year-old first-rounder suffered a concussion in Week 2 and was forced to sit out of last week's overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens. If Richardson is able to suit up this Sunday, he'll be an upside QB2 play, mainly for his elite rushing ability. Gardner Minshew would head back to the bench.

George Pickens Sep 28 3:00pm ET
George Pickens

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens will be facing the Houston Texans in Week 4. After teammate Diontae Johnson (hamstring) went down in Week 1, it was thought that the Steelers' pass game would revolve around Pickens. Pickens did have a productive Week 2, with 127 receiving yards and a touchdown, but that line came on just four receptions. The second-year wideout had another four catches in Week 3 for 75 yards. The Texans have yet to allow a wide receiver to cross the 100-yard mark this season, and through the first three weeks have given up just one touchdown to the position. Pickens should be in starting lineups in Week 4 due to his role as Pittsburgh's top pass catcher, and he should put up WR2/3 numbers against Houston.

From RotoBaller

Kenny Pickett Sep 28 2:40pm ET
Kenny Pickett

Quarterback Kenny Pickett and the Pittsburgh Steelers head to Houston in Week 4 to take on the Texans. In the first three weeks of the 2023 season, Pickett is averaging 229.7 passing yards per game and is completing just under 60% of his passes. After a couple of tough matchups to start the season against the 49ers and Browns, Pickett drew a softer matchup against the Raiders in Week 3, but could still only manage a season-high 235 yards against them. The Texans' defense has not performed well this season but has still limited opposing quarterbacks to 228 passing yards per game and has allowed only two passing touchdowns so far. Pickett is not relevant for fantasy purposes in Week 4.

Jamal Adams Sep 28 2:20pm ET
Jamal Adams

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams (quad) is expected to make his return to the playing field when the team takes on the New York Giants in Week 4. The Monday night showdown will be Adams' first game since suffering a tear in his quadriceps in 2022's season opener. The veteran's return to the field will be a boon for Seattle's defense. In 2023 the Seahawks' rush defense is holding their own, but their pass defense ranks 23rd in DVOA. If Seattle chooses to play it safe against the lowly Giants' offense, Adams should be back after the Seahawks return from their Week 5 bye.

From RotoBaller

Joe Burrow Sep 28 1:40pm ET
Joe Burrow

The Tennessee Titans' defense continues to have issues in its secondary, meaning a matchup with Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals is worrisome. Although Burrow (calf) is banged up and has limited mobility, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins should have no issue getting open quickly. The Titans have posted ten sacks this season and could rack up plenty more against the mediocre Cincinnati offensive line, but there are simply much better options this week in the fantasy D/ST slot.

From RotoBaller

Chigoziem Okonkwo Sep 28 1:30pm ET
Chigoziem Okonkwo

Tennessee Titans tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo has brought in just seven passes for 42 yards through his first three games of 2023. He ranks 30th among all tight ends in targets (10) and has failed to make an impact. This was always a concern after the team added DeAndre Hopkins, and it is becoming a reality. Even though the Cincinnati Bengals have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to tight ends thus far, the second-year player out of Maryland should not be on the fantasy radar except in the deepest of tight end premium leagues. The Tennessee offense could be embarrassed once again in Week 4.

From RotoBaller

Nick Folk Sep 28 1:30pm ET
Nick Folk

Tennessee Titans kicker Nick Folk has made all eight of his field goal attempts this season and was beginning to enter the fantasy radar. However, Tennessee's offense scored just three total points in Week 3, proving Folk's floor is low as a part of a low-scoring team. He has plenty of upside if Ryan Tannehill, Derrick Henry, DeAndre Hopkins, and company can turn things around, but until then, there are likely better streaming options available. When teams start to go on bye weeks, he might become a more interesting fantasy asset. Stay away from him in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

From RotoBaller

DeAndre Hopkins Sep 28 1:20pm ET
DeAndre Hopkins

Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has hauled in 14 of his 25 targets for 153 yards in his first three games with the organization. The 31-year-old still looks like he has plenty of ability and is No. 11 in the NFL in target share (30.9%), but the Tennessee offense is holding him back. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been sacked 13 times (second-most) and has been under pressure often. Ultimately, the Tennessee passing attack looks like one of the worst in the NFL, meaning Hopkins could be at risk of posting duds every week. His overall target volume makes him an interesting fantasy option against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4, but he's far from bust-proof -- as we've seen over the last two weeks. Hopkins practiced in full early in the week, but he could still carry an injury designation come Friday.

From RotoBaller

Jaylen Waddle Sep 28 1:20pm ET
Jaylen Waddle

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (head) has cleared the league's concussion protocol. It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise after Waddle was listed as a full practice participant on Wednesday, and he should have the same designation on Thursday as he looks to return this Sunday in a big showdown against the division-rival Buffalo Bills. Waddle took a shot to the head in Week 2 and didn't play in the Week 3 shellacking of the Denver Broncos due to his concussion. The 24-year-old has caught eight of his 11 targets for 164 yards in two games played so far in 2023. Despite the tough matchup on the road in Buffalo this weekend, Waddle should be returned to all starting lineups.
