Ex-Dallas Cowboys running back strikes plea deals

Fri Jun 22 6:22pm ET

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Prosecutors say they have reached plea deals with former Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle that allow him to be released on probation as long as he stays out of trouble.

The Sedgwick County district attorney's office said in a news release Friday the agreements cover four cases against Randle, including ones involving a jail fight and interfering with a law enforcement officer. He has already been in jail more than two years.

Taken together, the pleas call for a controlling sentence of 80 months that allows him to be free on probation for 60 months. If he violates probation, prosecutors can seek to have him put in prison.

Randle was sentenced Friday for aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, criminal threat and marijuana possession.

He will be sentenced Aug. 17 on the jail fight and interference cases as well as ones related to his breaking a jail TV and threatening a guard.

Player Notes
Odell Beckham Jr. Jun 22 11:10pm ET

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could still hold out of training camp next month, according to sources in his camp. Head coach Pat Shurmur is expecting Beckham to show up on time, but team sources aren't so sure. There's no indication that the Giants are close to giving Beckham a contract extension, but there are still five weeks before the team reports for camp. It could get messy, but even if OBJ doesn't show up for camp, he'll be on the field in Week 1 and will be an elite WR1 for fantasy owners.

Kevin Hogan Jun 22 6:30pm ET

Washington Redskins quarterback Kevin Hogan is very much on the roster bubble heading into training camp as the third quarterback behind starter Alex Smith and backup Colt McCoy. Smith has been extremely durable in his career, so the 'Skins probably have no need to carry three QBs. Hogan played in four games for the Browns each of the last two seasons but has completed under 60 percent of his passes with a combined four touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Rob Kelley Jun 22 6:20pm ET

Washington Redskins running back Rob Kelley's roster spot may be in jeopardy, as he's behind rookie Derrius Guice, Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine on the depth chart, and NBC Sports Washington's Rich Tandler thinks that lineup is 95 percent locked in. Kapri Bibbs and Byron Marshall are breathing down Kelley's neck. Kelley played in just seven games in 2017 and ran 62 times for 194 yards (3.1 yards per carry) and three touchdowns. Barring an injury in front of him, Kelley will have zero fantasy value.

Marcus Mariota Jun 22 5:10pm ET

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has looked faster during offseason workouts now that he has shed his bulky knee brace. While working in a new offense heading into the 2018 season, Mariota has also cleaned up some his technique issues throwing the football. The 24-year-old has a great offensive line at his disposal and a strong running game, as well as improved wide receivers to throw to. It's looking like he could be a great bounce-back candidate in 2018, although fantasy owners still aren't targeting him as a QB1.

Orleans Darkwa Jun 22 3:50pm ET

Free-agent running back Orleans Darkwa (leg) announced on his Twitter account Friday that he has been cleared to resume football activities as he searches for a job ahead of training camp. Darkwa led the Giants in 2017 with 171 carries for 751 yards (career-high 4.4 yards per carry) and five touchdowns, but he hasn't generated any interest on the open market, likely because of his injury. If he can prove healthy, he could join a running-back needy club during training camp. Until then, he can be ignored in early fantasy drafts.

Chad Williams Jun 22 3:50pm ET

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Chad Williams is listed as a starter in the latest Cardinals depth chart. Although it is early in the offseason and the depth chart is just provisional, this bodes well for Williams dynasty owners. Williams is expected to compete for an outside receiver role with rookie Christian Kirk and speedster J.J. Nelson. Regardless, Williams is a flex option at best even if he does end up winning a starting job due to the presence of wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and running back David Johnson.

Jameis Winston Jun 22 3:40pm ET

Although Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has much more experience, quarterback Ryan Griffin has an opportunity to leapfrog Fitzpatrick for backup duties in training camp. With Jameis Winston facing a three-game suspension to open the year, that means that Griffin could be under center in Week 1 when the Bucs face off against the Saints on the road. Griffin obviously wouldn't be a fantasy option even if he's starting to open the regular season.

Orleans Darkwa Jun 22 2:23pm ET

Free-agent RB Orleans Darkwa (leg) announced on social media Friday, June 22, that he has been medically cleared to resume football work - about one month after having surgery to remove a plate in his leg.

Carlos Hyde Jun 22 1:40pm ET

Cleveland Browns running backs coach Freddie Kitchens mentioned on Friday that the offensive staff plans to ride the hot hand at the running back position this upcoming season. The Browns have depth and versatility in the backfield with Carlos Hyde, Nick Chubb, and Duke Johnson all on the roster. Kitchens stated, "Ultimately, all three of those guys can run our running game. Duke can do a few more things in the passing game. Ultimately, we feel like that is a position of strength." This is not the news that fantasy owners want to hear as three-way committees at running back are rarely helpful for fantasy purposes. Of the three backs, Duke Johnson is the safest bet for fantasy as his role as the pass-catching back is secure. Chubb remains a strong hold in dynasty formats who could eventually take over the lead role as the season wears on.

Keelan Cole Jun 22 1:13pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Keelan Cole hasn't 'skipped a beat' this offseason following his surprise rookie season and seems poised to be the Jaguars' third wide receiver this season, according to's Mike Kaye, who added Cole may end up being the team's best option in the slot.

Donte Moncrief Jun 22 1:03pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Donte Moncrief was healthy during offseason workouts and able to show off his speed on deep routes throughout OTAs, according to Mike Kaye of

Austin Seferian-Jenkins Jun 22 1:03pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins was constantly open during non-contact practices and made impressive catch after impressive catch, according to Mike Kaye of

Blake Bortles Jun 22 12:43pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles displayed improved accuracy and impressive chemistry with his new weapons, and he also seemed very comfortable with his improved throwing motion after spending even more time working on it in California, according to Mike Kaye of

Carlos Hyde Jun 22 12:33pm ET

Cleveland Browns RBs Carlos Hyde, Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson each are expected to play a major role in the team's offense this season, but running backs coach Freddie Kitchens told the team's website he plans to ride the 'hot hand' in the backfield because 'if they are having success, why would you change?'

Kerry Hyder Jun 22 11:23am ET

Detroit Lions DE Kerry Hyder (Achilles') has been a full participant in organized team activities and minicamp.

Ryan Fitzpatrick Jun 22 10:03am ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan W. Griffin has a chance in training camp to pass QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on the depth chart. QB Jameis Winston is expected to miss the first three games, and Griffin could start.

Bradley Chubb Jun 22 3:30am ET

Denver Broncos edge rusher Bradley Chubb has signed a four-year rookie contract on Thursday. Chubb was the sixth overall pick in the 2018 draft. He is an elite pass rusher who has seen time already in the off-season at defensive end and strongside linebacker. The news that Shane Ray will have surgery and likely miss the start of the regular season opens up a starting job for Chubb. He is not a surefire IDP starter but has some value in leagues with rookie drafts with multiple-year contracts. The starting experience for Chubb could serve the Denver defense well after Ray comes back. The Broncos defense will again be fantasy relevant in 2018.

DaeSean Hamilton Jun 21 11:43pm ET

Denver Broncos WR DaeSean Hamilton can be counted on to run the proper routes, according to QB Case Keenum. 'To have a receiver that you can count on to be in the right place at the right time, that's always a huge plus,' Keenum said.

Courtland Sutton Jun 21 11:33pm ET

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton is a 'friendly target,' according to QB Case Keenum. 'I like throwing him the football,' Keenum said.

Andy Dalton Jun 21 11:13pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton has the 'body of an All-Pro' and is in great shape, according to Gil Brandt of
