Steelers great Ben Roethlisberger said Wednesday that it could be time for coach Mike Tomlin to depart Pittsburgh.
Roethlisberger stated on his podcast that Tomlin would be better off with a new job and the Steelers just might benefit with a new head coach.
Tomlin is in his 19th season as Pittsburgh coach. Roethlisberger was the quarterback for 15 of those seasons and played his entire 18-year career with the Steelers.
Roethlisberger even suggested the Penn State college coaching vacancy as something that might fit Tomlin, who has a record of 189-113-2 (.625) as a head coach, 8-11 in the postseason, including the Super Bowl title in 2008.
"It's being talked about around here a lot: Maybe it's a clean-house time. Maybe it's time," Roethlisberger said. "I like Coach Tomlin. I have a lot of respect for Coach Tomlin. But maybe it's best for him, too. Maybe a fresh start for him is what's best. Whether that's in the pros, maybe go be Penn State's head coach. You know what he would do in Penn State? He would probably go win national championships. Because he's a great recruiter."
The Steelers (6-6) have lost five of their last seven games after a 4-1 start despite having four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers as quarterback. Pittsburgh is tied for first place in the AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers visit Baltimore on Sunday.
Roethlisberger said he doesn't want to see Pittsburgh fire Tomlin. He feels it's best to seek a split where both sides can start over.
"Here's what you don't do: You don't fire a guy like Coach Tomlin," Roethlisberger said. "He's a Hall of Fame head coach, he's respected. What you do is you come to an understanding and agreement, and it's like, ‘Hey, listen, I think it's probably best for both of us.'"
The Steelers have dropped six straight playoff games, starting with a loss to the New England Patriots in the 2016 season AFC Championship Game.
A 13-win Pittsburgh team was upset by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the following's season divisional round and the Steelers have gone down in the wild-card round on four occasions, including last season's 28-14 loss to the Ravens with Russell Wilson as quarterback.
Roethlisberger pointed out the Steelers have seen longstanding coaches go before. Chuck Noll was on the job for 23 seasons before Bill Cowher spent 15 seasons in Pittsburgh prior to Tomlin.
"You go, ‘Hey, coach, listen, it's probably best for all parties involved, let's start over.' It happened with Chuck Noll, it happened with Coach Cowher," Roethlisberger said. "Coach Tomlin's been here a long time. You'd give him a statue, whatever you've got to do, because he deserves it, he's earned it. But it's time to find that next guy. Who's that next guy that could be here for the next 20 years?"
Roethlisberger mentioned how the Philadelphia Eagles faced a similar fork with Andy Reid as coach. The two parted ways after the 2012 season after 14 seasons and no Super Bowl titles.
The Eagles have since won two crowns and Reid has won three as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.
"I think he might say it's time for a fresh start," Roethlisberger said of Tomlin. "Andy Reid, when he got let go in Philadelphia ... do you think he for one minute regrets it? And now the Eagles have won since he left, and he's won."
The Steelers last won the Super Bowl in the 2008 season when Roethlisberger was quarterback and Tomlin was in his second campaign as head coach. Roethlisberger also won the Super Bowl in the 2005 season when Cowher was head coach.
Roethlisberger passed for 64,088 yards, 418 touchdowns and 211 interceptions in 249 games (247 starts) with Pittsburgh. He stands sixth in career passing yards, eighth in career touchdown passes and was a six-time Pro Bowl selection.
Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 14
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Greg Dortch (chest) was a non-participant during Wednesday's practice session. Dortch joined fellow wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. (heel) on the injury report to begin Week 14. The 27-year-old gave fantasy managers a dud last week after two straight strong performances when Harrison was sidelined following an appendectomy. Dortch hauled in 12 receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns while Harrison missed two games due to injury. Last week, Dortch was held to two receptions for 14 yards with Harrison back on the field. If Dortch and Harrison are unable to play in Week 14, Xavier Weaver figures to see increased playing time. The second-year wideout has been a non-factor in fantasy leagues to this point. If both Dortch and Harrison are out, Michael Wilson will likely handle as many targets as he can.

Cleveland Browns rookie running back Dylan Sampson (calf) was a non-participant during Wednesday's practice session. Sampson is currently considered day-to-day after suffering a calf injury during Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The rookie back has rushed for 46 yards on 11 carries over his last two games. He did haul in a touchdown as a receiver over that span, but Sampson has mainly been a non-factor in fantasy football, with fellow rookie Quinshon Judkins seeing most of the backfield work. His absence in Week 14 would mean increased playing time for Jerome Fordand possibly Raheim Sanders. Judkins is the only fantasy-relevant back in Cleveland at the moment.

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (knee) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice session. Jacobs sat out the Week 12 victory over the Minnesota Vikings with a knee contusion, but he returned last week for the Thanksgiving Day win against the Detroit Lions. It appears Jacobs is still dealing with lingering effects from his knee injury. He looked solid in Week 13, when he rushed for 83 yards on 17 attempts against Detroit. Jacobs being limited to begin the week is likely just the team being overly cautious. The 27-year-old should be viewed as a high-end RB1 for the upcoming matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 14.

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery recorded 48 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in Week 13, breaking his three-game scoreless streak. However, Montgomery earned just eight carries, marking the third straight game in which he's failed to reach double-digit rush attempts. In Week 14, Montgomery will square off against a Dallas Cowboys defense that has been playing much better against the run in recent weeks. Over their last three games, the Cowboys have allowed an average of just 69 rushing yards per contest. With the Lions leaning heavily on star running back Jahmyr Gibbs, Montgomery has played fewer than 39% of Detroit's offensive snaps in four of his last five games. As long as that workload split persists, Montgomery profiles as a touchdown-dependent flex option for fantasy managers.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed (foot, shoulder) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice session. Reed has been listed as a limited participant in every practice since having his practice window opened on Nov. 21. The 25-year-old still needs to receive medical clearance in order to be activated from Injured Reserve. He has been sidelined since breaking his collarbone back in Week 2. Reed is also recovering from surgery to fix a broken bone in his foot. If he's activated from IR and active this weekend, Reed would most likely see limited snaps against the Chicago Bears. He's worth a stash for fantasy managers willing to hold him on the bench until he's back to full health.

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs has been special so far this season, recording 1,416 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns on 226 touches across 12 games. Since Lions head coach Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties in Week 10, Gibbs is averaging 21 touches per game. With star Lions wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) officially questionable to play in Week 14 due to an ankle injury, Gibbs could be in for a heavy workload as both a rusher and receiver against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night. For the season, the Dallas defense ranks 27th in the NFL in yards per carry allowed (4.7). However, the Cowboys have been better of late, allowing opponents to an average of 69 rushing yards per game over the last three weeks. Still, the Lions appear likely to force-feed Gibbs touches against Dallas. He profiles as a must-start fantasy running back in Week 14.

Across 12 games this season, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has completed 69.8% of his pass attempts for 3,025 yards, 25 touchdowns, and five interceptions. However, his supporting cast in Detroit is as depleted as it's been all season heading into his Week 14 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. The Lions will be without tight ends Brock Wright (neck) and Sam LaPorta (back), as well as wide receiver Kalif Raymond (ankle). Most importantly, star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) did not practice all week and is questionable to play against Dallas due to the low ankle sprain he suffered in Week 13. On paper, the Cowboys look like a favorable matchup for Goff. Through 13 weeks, Dallas has allowed the most passing yards (3,234) and touchdowns (28) of any NFL team. The Cowboys have been better in the second half of the season, but they still allowed four touchdown passes in Week 13 to the Kansas City Chiefs. While his outlook would obviously be improved if St. Brown is active, Goff profiles as a solid fantasy QB1 in Week 14.

Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams (ankle) was limited in Wednesday's practice ahead of their divisional clash against the Arizona Cardinals. Despite being limited on Wednesday, head coach Sean McVay expects Williams to be ready to play in Week 14. The Rams have featured a committee much more in 2025 than in previous years, and Williams' workload has been limited. The fourth-year running back has eclipsed 15 carries in just one of his last nine games, and second-year back Blake Corum has been efficient this season. Williams faces a Cardinals run defense that has struggled in recent weeks and has allowed double-digit fantasy points to every starting running back they've faced this season. If Williams is good to go this week, he is a high-end RB2 in Week 14.

Seattle Seahawks DT Johnathan Hankins (back) was removed from the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list with an non-injury settlement Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (ankle) was limited in Wednesday's practice as the Ravens prepare for their divisional showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This marks the first time Jackson has participated in a Wednesday practice in quite some time, but it's still displeasing to see the star quarterback's name on the injury report. Jackson suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the season that sidelined him for four weeks, and has been listed for knee and ankle injuries in the past few weeks. Jackson's rushing stats have dipped drastically in 2025, averaging career lows in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns this season. Without his rushing floor, Jackson will continue to be an inconsistent option for fantasy managers. Jackson will likely be upgraded to a full practice either Thursday or Friday and should be ready to play in an important game in Week 14.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams (hamstring) missed practice on Wednesday as the Rams prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals. Despite being listed as a non-participant, head coach Sean McVay expects Adams to be fine for Week 14. Adams was listed on the injury report last week with hamstring soreness, but looked just fine in Week 13, hauling in four of five targets for 58 yards and two touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers. Adams has been a touchdown machine in his first stint with the Rams, scoring 14 touchdowns in 12 games. Thursday and Friday's practice report will determine whether or not Adams will play in Week 14, but all signs are pointing up for the veteran receiver being able to go this week.
From RotoBaller
Houston Texans rookie running back Woody Marks (foot) will be fine, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. Marks went out early in the first quarter but returned later in Week 13's win over the Indianapolis Colts and did not participate in Wednesday's practice. However, reassurance from their head coach is a good sign for Marks' availability for Week 14, when the Texans travel to Kansas City. The fourth-round pick has been a nice surprise for fantasy managers this season, totaling 674 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games. It seems like Marks will be able to practice at some point this week and be ready for a showdown against one of the best run defenses in the NFL. Thursday's practice report will be one to watch in determining if Marks will be available this week.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (left hand) had a plate and multiple screws put in his hand in surgery. Herbert suffered a broken left hand in Week 13's win over the Las Vegas Raiders and underwent surgery on Monday, and reports say that it was successful. Herbert reiterated on Wednesday that the plan is to play in Week 14 when the Chargers host the Philadelphia Eagles. The star quarterback has been excellent in 2025, currently averaging 19.1 fantasy points per game, which ranks as the QB8. The Chargers are fighting for a playoff spot and will need to finish strong to fend off the likes of the Chiefs, Bills, and other teams. Fantasy managers should prepare as if Herbert will be able to play in Week 14.
From RotoBaller
The Los Angeles Chargers have opened the practice window for running back Hassan Haskins. Haskins suffered a hamstring injury in Week 7 and was placed on the injured reserve, sidelining him for a minimum of four weeks. While the fourth-year back is gearing up for a potential return in Week 14, his role will likely be limited to special teams moving forward. Kimani Vidal has stepped up, and rookie Omarion Hampton is "likely" to play on Monday Night against the Philadelphia Eagles. If Haskins can suit up in Week 14, his role will keep him away from fantasy relevance, and his impact won't affect the values of Hampton and Vidal moving forward.

After back-to-back productive games, rookie wide receiver Pat Bryant is earning praise from his quarterback, Bo Nix. Nix said that Bryant is "an every-down receiver and is getting better and better each week." In the last two games, Bryant has made eight catches on 13 targets for 124 yards, playing a 58% and 70% snap share in those games. The third-round pick from Illinois is becoming a top target for Nix, and he played the second-most snaps of any receiver for the Broncos after their bye week. Bryant and the Broncos face an easy matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14, who have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. While Bryant is not yet a regular starter, with high praise from his quarterback and a growing role, the rookie receiver is a name to watch this week.

Seattle Seahawks DT Leonard Williams (rest) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 3, while TE AJ Barner (knee, shoulder), LB Ernest Jones (rest), QB Drew Lock (personal), S Julian Love (hamstring), DE Rylie Mills (knee), S Ty Okada (oblique) and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (rest) were listed as limited participants. OG Anthony Bradford (elbow), NT Jarran Reed (wrist, thumb), WR Cody White (abdomen) and WR Dareke Young (quadriceps) were full participants.

Los Angeles Rams WR Davante Adams (hamstring), DT Poona Ford (calf) and CB Darious Williams (tibia) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 3. S Kamren Kinchens (shoulder), LB Omar Speights (ankle), RB Kyren Williams (ankle) and LB Byron Young (knee) were limited in practice, while WR Tutu Atwell (hamstring) practiced in full.

Los Angeles Rams WR Davante Adams (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 3. However, head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that he expects Adams to be ready to play in Week 14 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Fantasy Spin: Adams has posted four or more receptions in eight of the past nine games, and he has been a touchdown machine with 11 scores in the past six games, including two last time out at Carolina in Week 13. When healthy, Adams is a must-start fantasy option in all leagues.

Arizona Cardinals OL Kelvin Beachum (groin), RB Trey Benson (knee), WR Greg Dortch (chest), WR Marvin Harrison Jr. (heel), CB Max Melton (heel), DL Walter Nolen (knee), LB Josh Sweat (rest) and S Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 3. DL L.J. Collier (knee), RB Emari Demercado (ankle) and OL Christian Jones (knee) practiced on a limited basis.
