NEW YORK (AP) The New York Jets have signed cornerback Trumaine Johnson to a five-year, $72.5 million contract.

Johnson, arguably the top free agent at his position, spent his first six seasons with the Rams and had 18 interceptions while establishing himself as one of the best cover cornerbacks in the NFL.

His signing was made official by the Jets on Friday. It gives Todd Bowles' defense an unquestioned No. 1 cornerback.

The deal, which Pro Football Talk first reported included $34 million guaranteed at signing, makes Johnson's contract one of the biggest in franchise history.

Johnson will team up at cornerback with Morris Claiborne, who was the Jets' top player at the position last season and will return to New York on a one-year deal. The sides agreed to a contract late Thursday night, but the team had not yet announced it.

Player Notes
Tyreek Hill Dec 10 10:50pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill (heel, wrist) and running back Spencer Ware (hamstring, shoulder) both missed practice on Monday. It's not a surprise, as both were dinged up in the Week 14 overtime win against the Ravens. Both might not practice much this week, but they are expected to be available in a huge divisional game against the Chargers on Thursday. Hill had 169 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the first meeting with LA and will be a must-start if he plays. Ware was much better in his second start without Kareem Hunt and had 20 touches (15 carries for 75 yards and five catches for 54 yards) in the win over Baltimore. He should be seen as an RB2 this Thursday in what could be a shootout with the Bolts.

Austin Ekeler Dec 10 10:40pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running backs Melvin Gordon (knee) and Austin Ekeler (concussion, neck) both missed practice on Monday. The Chargers are hoping Gordon can return from a two-game absence due to a knee sprain, but it's not a good start to the week. He could be a game-time decision on Thursday against the Chiefs. Ekeler is doubtful to play this week and is dealing with a concussion on top of a bruised nerve in his neck. If Gordon can't suit up, rookie Justin Jackson would serve in a workhorse role and have RB2 upside in a good matchup. Rookie Detrez Newsome is the only other running back on the depth chart behind Jackson.

Max McCaffrey Dec 10 8:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers practice squad WRs Victor Bolden, Max McCaffrey and Steven Dunbar are candidates to be signed to the 53-man roster with WR Pierre Garcon (knee) out for the season.

Matt Breida Dec 10 8:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida (ankle) will be reevaluated Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Fantasy Spin: Breida was not able to play last week and his status for Week 15 is uncertain at this point. Owners should monitor his practice participation during the week because he can be a No. 2 fantasy running back if he is able to play.

Ahkello Witherspoon Dec 10 8:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers CB Ahkello Witherspoon (ankle) and CB Tarvarius Moore (shoulder) are considered day-to-day at this point.

Kentavius Street Dec 10 7:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers DT Kentavius Street (knee) may be able to participate in practice in the near future but will not play this season. Street tore his anterior cruciate ligament before the 2018 NFL Draft.

Austin Ekeler Dec 10 7:20pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler (neck) is extremely doubtful to play on Thursday against the Chiefs after suffering another stinger on an onside kick by the Bengals at the end of the Week 14 game. Ekeler is dealing with a bruised nerve in his neck. It sounds like it's painful, and on a short week it's unlikely he'll be ready. The Chargers are hoping that Melvin Gordon (knee) can return after a two-game absence, but if he can't, rookie Justin Jackson would be the workhorse in a great matchup with shootout potential. Don't plan on having Ekeler for the fantasy semifinals.

Pierre Garcon Dec 10 7:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Pierre Garcon (knee) will undergo a knee scope and will be placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve. Garcon last played on Nov. 1 and had just one touchdown in the last two years for the Niners in just 16 combined contests. The 32-year-old won't be worth drafting in the majority of leagues if he continues his career in 2019. Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis will be the top two receivers the rest of the way, with Pettis being the better WR3 asset in the short to intermediate passing game for quarterback Nick Mullens.

Pierre Garcon Dec 10 7:13pm ET

San Francisco 49ers WR Pierre Garcon (knee) is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

Fantasy Spin: Dante Pettis likely will remain in the starting lineup with Garcon out for the season. Pettis has been targeted at least six times in each of the last three games and has four touchdowns during that span. He can be considered a No. 3 receiver or flex option next week.

Cassius Marsh Dec 10 7:13pm ET

San Francisco 49ers DE Cassius Marsh (concussion) is going through the concussion protocol after suffering the injury in Week 14.

Rashaad Penny Dec 10 7:10pm ET

Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Rashaad Penny (ankle) is active on Monday night against the Vikings. Penny saw a little more run in Week 13 with Chris Carson dislocating his index finger, rushing seven times for 65 yards and his second touchdown of the year. However, Carson is playing on Monday night and should remain the team's No. 1 backfield option, limiting Penny's ceiling as a risky RB3/flex. Mike Davis will also likely steal a few touches here and there in this three-headed attack in a tough matchup with Minnesota's defensive front.

From RotoBaller

Tre Madden Dec 10 7:03pm ET

The Seattle Seahawks have declared RB Tre Madden, C Joey Hunt, DL Branden Jackson, LB K.J. Wright, DB Kalan Reed and OG D.J. Fluker inactive for Week 14.

Rashaad Penny Dec 10 7:03pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (ankle) is active for Week 14. He was listed as questionable after being a late addition to Seattle's injury report.

Doug Baldwin Dec 10 7:00pm ET

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin (groin) has been ruled inactive for Monday night against the Vikings. Baldwin was on the wrong side of questionable and wasn't able to convince the team he could play in pregame warmups after not practicing all week. Tyler Lockett will be quarterback Russell Wilson's top target and will likely draw Xavier Rhodes in coverage most of the night. David Moore now has some sneaky DFS value, while Jaron Brown should round out three-receiver sets.

From RotoBaller

Kyle Sloter Dec 10 6:53pm ET

The Minnesota Vikings have declared WR Chad Beebe, DE Jalyn Holmes, DE Tashawn Bower, RB Mike Boone, TE David Morgan, CB Trae Waynes and QB Kyle Sloter inactive for Week 14.

Trae Waynes Dec 10 6:53pm ET

The Minnesota Vikings have declared WR Chad Beebe, DE Jalyn Holmes, DE Tashawn Bower, RB Mike Boone, TE David Morgan, CB Trae Waynes and QB Kyle Sloter inactive for Week 14.

Doug Baldwin Dec 10 6:53pm ET

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (hip) is officially inactive for Week 14. He was listed as questionable and considered a game-time decision.

Tavon Austin Dec 10 6:23pm ET

Dallas Cowboys WR Tavon Austin (groin) and LB Sean Lee (hamstring) are expected to participate in at least a portion of practice Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Josh Sweat Dec 10 6:13pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles DE Josh Sweat (ankle) underwent an MRI on his injured ankle, but head coach Doug Pederson said the team is still waiting for the results.

Sam Darnold Dec 10 5:43pm ET

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold (foot) does not appear to be in any danger of missing the Week 15 game even though he suffered a foot injury during the last game, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said Darnold's latest foot injury is not related to the foot injury he suffered earlier in the season.

Fantasy Spin: Owners can monitor Darnold's practice participation this week to see if he suffers any setbacks. He will be facing a solid Houston Texans defense this week and can be avoided in most leagues.
