RealTime DFS Strategy: Week 7

Rodgers is worth high price tag

We have a limited number of options in DFS for Week 7 since six teams will be on a bye. They have some of the most prolific offenses, as well, including the Bills, Cowboys and Chargers. Let’s dive into the teams that will take the field and highlight some players from them to target, as well as a few to potentially avoid.

Quarterbacks

Aaron Rodgers, GB vs. WAS ($7,500): With the Bears struggling to score last week, the Packers didn’t need much production from Rodgers. He only attempted 23 passes in the game, completing 17 of them for 195 yards and two touchdowns. Since their Week 1 debacle against the Saints, Rodgers has thrown 12 touchdown passes and just one interception. Washington has allowed a league-high 16 touchdown passes, so another big performance could be forthcoming.

Jameis Winston, NO at SEA ($5,500): When you think of the Seahawks over the past decade, a strong defense is what usually comes to mind. However, they have anything but one this season, especially against the pass since they have allowed the fifth-most passing yards per game. At this cheap salary, Winston could be worth taking a chance on in tournament play.

Player to Avoid

Derek Carr, LV vs. PHI ($6,000): With his 341 passing yards against the Broncos in Week 6, Carr has thrown for over 340 yards in four of six games. However, he hasn’t topped more than two touchdown passes in a contest and he’s also thrown four interceptions. In a matchup against an Eagles defense that has allowed the 10th-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, it might be best to keep Carr out of your entry.

Running Backs

Darrell Henderson Jr., LAR vs. DET ($6,600): The Lions defense is a mess. Add in an offense that generally has a hard time scoring and they can dig themselves into an early hole. That often sets up a game script that is favorable to the opposing running backs, so it’s not a surprise that they have allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Enter Henderson, who has been on the field for 79.7 percent of the Rams’ offensive snaps this season.

Darrell Williams, KC at TEN ($5,000): Williams was busy in the Chiefs first game without Clyde Edwards-Helaire (knee), carrying the ball 21 times against Washington. He wasn’t overly efficient, turning them into 62 yards. However, he received six carries inside the red zone, which helped him to score two touchdowns. The Titans have allowed seven rushing touchdowns, which is tied for the fifth-most in the league. Don’t be surprised if Williams finds his way into the end zone at least one time in this contest.

Player to Avoid

Devontae Booker, NYG vs. CAR ($5,500): The Giants are a mess. They continue to have one injury after another, most of which have come on the offensive side of the ball. Filling in for Saquon Barkley (ankle), Booker only had 12 carries for 41 yards against the Cowboys. Their offensive line took another hit when Andrew Thomas (ankle/foot) was placed on IR and they remain banged up at wide receiver, so they could have a difficult time moving the ball against a Panthers team that has only allowed an average of 20.2 points per game.

Wide Receivers

Davante Adams, GS vs. WAS ($8,900): With the Packers not throwing much last week, Adams only received five targets. He made the most of them, finishing with four receptions for 89 yards. He has eight red-zone targets this season and already has four games with at least nine total targets, so with how many passing touchdowns Washington has allowed, a Rodgers-Adams stack could prove to be profitable.

Darnell Mooney, CHI at TB ($4,700): Mooney hauled in his first touchdown reception of the season in Week 6. He finished with five receptions for 45 yards, marking his fourth game this season with at least five catches. If the Bears are going to have any chance of hanging with the Buccaneers, they will likely need to throw the ball a lot more than they are accustomed. Add in the Bucs allowing the sixth-most passing yards per game and Mooney could be worth a look in tournament play.

Player to Avoid

Marquise Brown, BAL vs. CIN ($5,800): The last two weeks were a perfect example of the highs and lows that can accompany Brown in DFS. In Week 5, he torched the Colts for nine catches, 125 yards and two touchdowns. Last week, he had a mere four catches for 35 yards against the Chargers. With the Bengals only allowing an average of 18.5 points per game, we might receive another underwhelming stat line from Brown.

Tight Ends

Zach Ertz, ARI vs. HOU ($3,900): Before landing on IR with a knee injury, Maxx Williams had been a productive member of the Cardinals’ potent offense. Through five games, he had 16 receptions for 193 yards and a touchdown. With him likely being out for the season, the Cardinals acted quickly by acquiring Ertz from the Eagles. No longer having to share his tight end position with Dallas Goedert, Ertz could be in line for a resurgence in production.

Ricky Seals-Jones, WAS at GB ($3,700): With Logan Thomas (hamstring) out, Washington has relied heavily on Seals-Jones. Over the last two games, he’s logged 98.7 percent and 100 percent of their offensive snaps, respectively. The result was nine catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. At this cheap salary, his secure playing time makes him very appealing.

Player to Avoid

Evan Engram, NYG vs. CAR ($3,600): Engram has been a massive disappointment with the Giants. Whether it’s been because of injuries, poor play or their inability to figure out how to better utilize him in the offense, his tenure with the franchise might be over soon. Even with their wide receiver group decimated last week, Engram only had three receptions for 24 yards. With Ertz and Seals-Jones in his same salary range, there’s no need to take a chance on Engram.
