Week 13 looks to be a very busy week with 21 teams playing every day (seven games!). Six teams will play six games and only three will play five.
Detroit is at Pittsburgh as both teams play five this week. It looks to be a week with limited at bats for Miggy, as it has been reported he will be a DH only for the rest of the season. So If Cabrera plays against the Pirates, it will be as a pitch hitter. The White Sox are the other team playing five with two across town at Wrigley. It looks like Yonder Alonso will be doing more watching than playing as Jose Abreu will man first base.
Inter-league play has Houston losing a DH for their three game set in Cincinnati and the Angels losing their DH for their three games in St. Louis. So if Albert Pujols plays for the first time in the town he grew up in (baseball wise), it will have to be at first base, meaning limited at bats for Ohtani and Bour.
A really good reminder was given to all fantasy baseball players the last 4 days. You do not use your pitchers in Coors Field if you can avoid it. There were 92 runs scored by San Diego and Colorado in their series, raising their pitcher's ERA with the hitting onslaught. This week Colorado plays all six games on the road, so things should settle down a bit.
Another interesting piece of baseball notoriety happened in New York where Noah Syndergaard (and Wilson Ramos) gave up six stolen bases to the Cardinals, raising his total to 49 stolen bases allowed for the year. Ramos never had much of a chance as Thor’s delivery to the plate allowed really large jumps. Unfortunately, Thor pulled a right hammy in the game and went on the IL the next day, but keep this in mind when he returns if you need stolen bases.
If you’re looking for a catcher (who isn’t?), it looks like Carson Kelly will be handling the job the next couple weeks as Alex Avila will be out in Arizona. He could be a good source for some power.
American League home run leader Edwin Encarnacion was traded to New York (just what they need, another masher), so he’ll take over the primary DH duties and a little first base from Luke Voit. With Mike Stanton due back Tuesday (and Aaron Judge not much further behind), somebody is going to be losing at bats in the Bronx. I think Aaron Hicks mans centerfield almost every game as they need his defense, so a Brett Gardner, Cameron Maybin, Mike Tauchman, Cliff Frazier, etc., will become pitch hitters and pitch runners - not good for your fantasy team! And if and when Kendrys Morales returns from the IL, he’ll be looking for another team to play.
Mike Clevinger returns to the Indians rotation this week, and after he gets a little rust off, he should be one of the better pitchers in the game. Get him on your waiver wire if he’s there.
Have a great week!
