San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander (biceps), who had surgery on his pectoral muscle last season, was also dealing with a biceps injury and is undergoing surgery on Friday, according to sources. Alexander should be fully recovered in time for the 2020 season. The 25-year-old played in just eight games in 2019 in his first season with San Fran because of his pectoral injury. In those eight contests, Alexander had 34 tackles (22 solo), half a sack, a forced fumble and an interception. He's played in just 14 games the last two seasons and will need to stay on the field if he wants to remain with the 49ers past the 2020 season.

San Francisco 49ers DE Arik Armstead, a pending free agent, is a re-signing priority for the team, which may apply the franchise tag. 'Everything is on the table,' general manager Josh Lynch said. 'We want to find a way to keep him.'

Feb 5 4:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Arik Armstead said he wouldn't mind if the team placed the franchise tag on him this offseason. "I would love being here. Trying to go back to the Super Bowl, so however that is seen or has to get done, its not really my decision what they want to do with me," Armstead said. The 26-year-old broke out in 2019 with 54 tackles (32 solo), a career-high 10 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery while leading the Niners to a Super Bowl appearance. He'll certainly be on the IDP radar after his big season, and should remain productive if he stays in San Francisco in this strong defensive unit.

The San Francisco 49ers Defense collapsed in the fourth quarter as the Niners suffered a brutal 20-31 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The Niners played brilliantly for three and a half quarters, harassing MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes to four sacks and two interceptions. However, they couldnt contain Mahomes in the final seven minutes as the Chiefs erupted for 21 unanswered points to capture the victory. Despite the loss, the Niners defense conclude a spectacular season as one of the NFLs finest. Without too many potential free agent losses this offseason, the unit is setup well for an encore performance as a top five fantasy defense in 2020.
