Garoppolo lasted three games as the starter for the 49ers before tearing his ACL. It was a shame because he seemed to be gaining confidence in the offense and making strides as a starter. He had multiple touchdowns without an interception each of his last two games. He finished the season completing 60 percent of his passes for 718 yards, having at least 200 passing yards all three games he played. He should be healthy for the start of this year. Garoppolo is the franchise quarterback for the 49ers. He is a talented young player. He has a very quick release and a good arm. He is accurate on underneath throws and improving on his deep throws. Garoppolo isn't the biggest quarterback, so durability is a slight concern, especially since he was injured his first season as a full-time starter. He has all the tools to be an elite quarterback in this league.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Garoppolo was a bust last year but he has the tools to be a legit fantasy starter, especially if the 49ers give him some more talent to work with offensively. He has a chance to be a fantasy difference maker at a pretty good price for fantasy teams, who should be able to get him as a No. 2 fantasy quarterback. Expect around 4,000 yards and 30 total touchdowns with 13 or so interceptions in the 49ers pass-first offense.
San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is a very enticing QB2 sleeper to consider in the later rounds of fantasy drafts this season. Though he only has 10 professional starts to his name, he has a 16/8 TD/INT ratio in those starts and has averaged a tidy 8.5 yards per attempt as a 49er. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has an impressive history of getting the most from his system's quarterbacks, and the 49ers boast an intriguing array of weapons that include Dante Pettis, Deebo Samuel, Trent Taylor, Marquise Goodwin, George Kittle, and newcomer Tevin Coleman. Though Jimmy G is still bit of an unknown, the best we can do as fantasy football players is to make an educated projection about his range of outcomes. All reports are that he is fully healthy, and it looks like we'll finally get the chance to see what the former heir apparent to Tom Brady is capable of. He's being drafted at 125 overall (QB19), and he's a great bet to vastly outperform his ADP and finish as a top-15 quarterback this season. Target Jimmy Garoppolo as a rock-solid QB2 who's brimming with upside.
|No Playoff Match Up|
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 24 of 33 passes for 243 scoreless yards in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams. He also threw a pick and lost a fumble. Jimmy G was once against careless with the football, committing his seventh turnover in five contests. Fortunately, the Niners secured the victory. The sixth-year signal caller has been extremely shaky this season but his team remains undefeated. With the offenses heavy emphasis on the run game, Garoppolo is a tough trust in fantasy. Hell be a QB2 with upside against the Washington Redskins in Week 7.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been the quintessential game manager amidst the teams early-season undefeated run. With the Niners leading the league in rushing plays (57 percent), Jimmy G has yet to surpass 300 pass yards in any contest. That could change in Week 6 when the Niners play underdogs against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams boast a stiff rush defense but have been vulnerable against the pass, ranking 24th by DVOA. Outside of safety net tight end George Kittle, Garoppolo has been indiscriminate in his target, finding the open receiver. That could bode well on Sunday if Garoppolo can protect the football. Searching for just his second mistake-free performance, Garoppolo is an upside QB2 in Week 6.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20 of 29 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns in Week 5s blowout victory against the Cleveland Browns. The Niners offense again leaned on its elite rushing attack, accumulating 275 yards on the ground but Garoppolo contributed with a 5-yard touchdown dart to running back Matt Breida in the first quarter. He later found tight end George Kittle for a 22-yard score in the third frame. Garoppolo spread the rock to eight different receivers but was always able to find his security blanket Kittle to move the chains. Jimmy G hasnt been flawless in 2019 but hes capitalized on the surrounding talent when hes not committing costly turnovers. Hell be in the mix as a QB2 in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20-of-29 passes for 181 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo easily outperformed his counterpart Baker Mayfield, and he didn't make any miscues. Still, the yardage total was just so-so, and he remains more of a QB2 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 6 and beyond.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is still looking for consistency entering Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns. Garoppolo has five passing touchdowns through three games but has also committed five turnovers (four interceptions). The undefeated Niners have leaned heavily on their elite run blocking unit and rushing attack, minimizing their demands on the passing game. San Francisco takes on a tough Browns pass defense on Monday night and a similar game script is expected. Without an uptick in pass plays or consistency, Jimmy G will stay a middling QB2.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo finished 23-of-32 for 277 yards and a touchdown to go along with two interceptions in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had three yards rushing on six carries and lost one of his two fumbles.
Fantasy Spin: While not having a clear alpha receiver probably isn't helping his cause, Garoppolo hasn't been particularly sharp in two of his three games. Of course, expectations should have been kept in check early this season anyway considering he is still working his way back from ACL surgery. Garoppolo will have plenty of things to work on heading into the team's Week 4 bye and will be a middling QB2 option at best in Week 5 versus the Cleveland Browns.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo led his team to victory despite committing three turnovers in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Garoppolo completed 23 of 32 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown while also tossing two picks and losing a fumble. His touchdown in the fourth quarter to receiver Dante Pettis sealed the victory for the undefeated Niners. It was a sloppy home debut for the team amidst five turnovers, but they escaped with the win. Jimmy G has been volatile this season with five scores and six turnovers (four interceptions) and isnt a must-hold through the teams Week 4 bye in two quarterback leagues.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will seek his second straight strong performance in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Garoppolo struggled mightily in the season opener but bounced back brilliantly in Week 2, tossing three touchdowns and passing for 296 yards en route to a 41-17 blowout victory. The Steelers pass defense has been awful through two games, allowing nearly nine yards per pass attempt. Garoppolo entered the season as a middling QB2, but a positive showing at home in a favorable matchup could vault him into the top-12 discussion.
49ers' QB Jimmy Garoppolo scored 26.65 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 2 win in Cincinnati. Garoppolo threw for 297 yards on 17-of-25 with three touchdowns and one interception.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo finished 17-of-25 for 297 yards and three touchdowns to go along with one interception in Week 2 versus the Cincinnati Bengals. He added four carries for eight yards.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo's attempts and completion percentage were similar to Week 1, but the overall results were much different. Perhaps the most impressive part of this performance was that he didn't have to rely too heavily on George Kittle (three targets). Garoppolo still can't be considered anything more than a QB2 for fantasy purposes at the moment, but this is a step in the right direction. He'll get another chance to prove himself in Week 3 at home against the winless Pittsburgh Steelers.
San Francisco 49ers left tackle Joe Staley (leg) suffered a fractured left fibula in the Week 2 win over the Bengals when running back Raheem Mostert ran into Staley's leg from behind. The offensive lineman said he's expected to be out six to eight weeks. It's a big and notable loss to San Francisco's offensive line, and it's bad news for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo moving forward, although he does have a good matchup in Week 3 against the struggling Steelers Defense. Garoppolo remains a midrange QB2.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 17 of 25 passes for 297 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Week 2s annihilation of the Cincinnati Bengals. Garoppolo found both receiver Marquise Goodwin wide open for a 38-yard score then watched running back Raheem Mostert take a 39-yard screen to the house in the first quarter, opening the rout. Garoppolo later connected with rookie receiver Deebo Samuel for a two-yard score to cap his afternoon. Its an encouraging bounce back for Garoppolo, who looked flustered in Week 1 returning from his first game since tearing his ACL. After the 41-17 blowout, Garoppolo leads the Niners towards their first home game in Week 3 against the reeling Pittsburgh Steelers. Jimmy G will again be a mid-tier QB2 in that contest.
San Francisco 49ers left tackle Joe Staley (leg) suffered a potentially serious leg injury in Week 2 against the Bengals and was carted off the field. This has the looks of an injury that could be a season-ender for Staley. It'd be a big loss to San Fran's offensive line and a downgrade moving forward for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's pass protection. We'll keep you updated on the exact nature of Staley's leg injury, but it didn't look good.
The San Francisco 49ers need quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to rebound in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Garoppolo looked very shaky in Week 1, playing his first regular season game since suffering a torn ACL last season. Garoppolo squares off against a surprisingly frisky Bengals Defense that recorded four sacks last weekend against the Seattle Seahawks. The sixth-year signal caller has historically struggled on the road, but a perfect weather forecast on Sunday appears ideal for a passing display from both teams. Until he shakes off the rust, Garoppolo slots as a middling QB2 and should be avoided by fantasy managers if possible.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo finished 18-of-27 for 166 yards and a touchdown to go along with an interception in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo did a fine job of connecting with George Kittle, but that was about the only good thing he did with any consistency. It's hard to condemn any player after one game, but he also didn't look quite right in the preseason either. Consider him a low-end QB2 for fantasy purposes on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals next week.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 18 of 27 passes for 166 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Garoppolo paid for a careless pass the Bucs returned for a touchdown but he was able to game-manage the team to victory. Until the 49ers Defense took over in the second half, Garoppolo looked very shaky and generally uncomfortable but he settled in and found Richie James Jr. for a 39-yard score in the third quarter. Jimmy Gs performance wont inspire many fantasy managers but it was his first full game returning from a torn ACL. Hell be a middling QB2 in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will make his first start this Sunday since Week 3 of last year. Returning from a torn ACL, Garoppolo endured a streaky preseason as he shook off the cobwebs. For the Niners to go anywhere this season, hell need to play like an all-pro. The team surrounded him with weapons this offseason and hell enjoy a tasty matchup in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs were a bottom-three pass defense in 2018 and with a total score projected around 50, Garoppolo should have every opportunity to get going. Despite settling in as a QB2 in fantasy drafts, Garoppolo has a shot to be a top-10 option in Tampa.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said that he likes to take chances in the preseason and training camp practices to test the offense and his own limits. "The more you try those things, you see who's going to make the play for you in a crucial situation. If you put it in a good spot for them to make a play, you expect them to make a play. They expect you to give them a chance to make play, so I think it works both ways. Them trusting me, me trusting them. ... [That] comes with reps," Garoppolo said. He tore his ACL in Week 3 of last season and has just eight starts in two years with the Niners. Garoppolo won't play in the preseason finale on Thursday and will go into Week 1 as an unappealing QB2 in fantasy, although there's certainly upside in the young signal-caller's arm if he can stay healthy.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) remains on track to play in Week 1 against the Buccaneers. "We really, knock on wood, haven't had any setbacks and been on schedule the whole time. ... Things are really coming together," Garoppolo said. The young QB tore his ACL last year and has looked very rusty in practices and the preseason, so fantasy owners likely aren't very enamored with him as a low-end QB2 option. However, he could be worth a look as a sleeper in the regular season matchup against a Tampa defense that regularly gave up plenty of points to opposing offenses in 2018.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 14 of 20 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown in Saturdays victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. Garoppolo bounced back in a big way after an ugly game last Monday, finding running back Matt Breida for a 20-yard score in the first quarter. In his second game back from a torn ACL, the performance should qualm some alarmists in the Niner and fantasy communities about Garoppolos competency as a starter. However, hes still just a factor in two-quarterback leagues or a backup in standard formats.
