Knowing that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is under contract with the team for the next 12 years, 62-year-old head coach Andy Reid isn't even considering retirement anytime soon. If Reid were to stick around until the end of Mahomes' extension, he'd be 74 years old. Bills great Marv Levy and Bears founder George Halas coached when they were 72 years old. The combination of Reid and Mahomes could be great for a long time to come, and some are discussing their names with the likes of great coach/quarterback couplings such as Belichick and Brady, Payton and Brees and Walsh and Montana.

The Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes agreed to a 10-year contract extension on Monday, according to a league source. The deal that ties Mahomes to Kansas City through the 2031 season will be the richest contract in NFL history. Last year's Super Bowl MVP had two years remaining on his contract, so it's essentially a 12-year contract in total. Mahomes' extension is worth over $400 million in total, and sources think it will be tied to a percentage of the salary cap for each season. Cha ching. Mahomes cashes in after winning MVP in 2018 with 50 regular season touchdowns and leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl title last season. His dual-threat ability makes him extremely dangerous on the football field in KC's explosive offense. Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are the top two fantasy signal-callers in 2020.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes agreed to terms on a 10-year contract extension with the Chiefs Monday, July 6, that will run through the 2031 season, according to sources. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the contract with be the richest contract in NFL history.

Fantasy Spin: Mahomes is coming off his first championship and is only 24 years old, so the Chiefs locked him up for most of the rest of his career. He is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and is a must-start in all fantasy leagues.

Adam Schefter is reporting the Chiefs and QB Patrick Mahomes have reached an agreement on a 10-year contract extension that ties him to Kansas City through the 2031 season.

Jul 2 3:43pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 15 passes of at least 40 yards during the 2019 season, which ranked second among quarterbacks.

Fantasy Spin: Mahomes was one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL last season and will be one of the first quarterbacks selected in fantasy drafts this season. He is a must-start fantasy option no matter the opponent.

Jun 30 10:40pm ET

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo believes that Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones deserves a long-term contract extension, but with the team not making an offer at $20 million per season or more, it could be unlikely that he agrees to a deal before the July 15 deadline. Under the franchise tag in 2020, Jones would make around $16 million. The Chiefs apparently don't think he's worth that amount, so there's a lot of work to be done if the two sides don't iron some things out. There's also the situation of extending Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, so Jones is on the backburner. Jones also threatened a potential holdout on his Twitter account. Most likely, the 25-year-old will play under the tag this year, where he'll be a low-end starting defensive lineman for IDP owners.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and other players on the offensive end have been holding workouts despite the unavailability of team facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite suffering a knee injury during the Thursday night game against the Denver Broncos, the former MVP still finished the regular season with 4,031 yards and 26 touchdowns (five interceptions) throughout 14 games. With Mahomes and company putting in work while others aren't able, he has a good chance to reclaim the top spot as the top fantasy signal-caller in 2020.

The Kansas City Chiefs come in at No. 5 on the list of the best trench teams in the league, per NFL.com's Bucky Brooks. Mitchell Schwartz could be the best right tackle in football, and Eric Fisher is a stout blind-side protector for Patrick Mahomes. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is an underrated blocker with a tenacious demeanor and playing style. On the defensive side, Chris Johns and Frank Clark are alpha dogs with disruptive games and high motors. If the duo can stay healthy this season, Kansas City's defense could emerge as a top-10 unit in 2020. The Chiefs also have some playmakers in the second and third levels of the defense, which will put them on the radar as a low-end starting unit in fantasy football circles.

Jun 15 5:53pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes recorded 1,141 yards, 14 touchdowns and two interceptions on passes of traveled at least 20 yards during the 2019 regular season and postseason.

Fantasy Spin: Mahomes may be the top quarterback in the NFL at this point and should continue to post terrific numbers in the team's high-powered offense. He will be one of the first quarterbacks selected in fantasy drafts and is a must-start option.

Jun 4 9:53pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' 93.7 Pro Football Focus grade is the highest of any quarterback over their first three seasons in the NFL.

From TheHuddle

Jun 2 12:50pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' expected completion rate on deep passes is higher than most QBs in the league because of his speedy weapons, namely receiver Tyreek Hill, whose 18 touchdowns on deep targets since 2016 is second-most in the NFL behind Antonio Brown. Mahomes had a 30.3 percent rate of targets considered to be open on deep passes, which was the highest in the league. He was 7-for-11 on deep passes for 257 yards and four TDs in Week 2 against the Raiders, with his receivers being open on 27.3 percent of those 11 deep attempts. Mahomes leads the NFL with 25 deep-pass touchdowns since 2018, and although his receivers have made it easier on him, he's still an elite athlete with an elite arm. His 2019 season wasn't as good as his 2018 MVP campaign, but we still wouldn't blame you if you took him as the top QB1 over Lamar Jackson this year.

Jun 2 9:20am ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and other members of the team's offense have been conducting informal workouts. This is not welcome news for those who have been unable to practice as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially since the Chiefs have already displayed one of the most potent offenses in the league over the last few years. After finishing 2018 as the league's top fantasy producer at the quarterback position, the 24-year-old was relegated to 14 games last season after dislocating his knee cap during the Thursday night encounter with the Broncos while also seeing statistical regression across the board throughout the year. However, with some extra reps added in before the start of the regular season, the former MVP may be on track for another stellar season.

From TheHuddle

May 26 4:03pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has the top passing grade when under pressure over the last two seasons, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fantasy Spin: The Chiefs are bringing back much of the same offensive line as they fielded during the 2019 season en route to winning Super Bowl LIV. Mahomes has the mobility to compensate for missed assignments by his blockers and there's no reason to expect any regression in this capacity.

From TheHuddle

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes threw for a league-high 13 touchdowns on passes that traveled at least 20 yards downfield in 2019.

May 21 9:20pm ET

The Kansas City Chiefs plan on starting contract-extension talks with quarterback Patrick Mahomes this summer, chairman Clark Hunt said on a Facebook Live event with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Thursday. Both sides would love it if Mahomes remained a Chief for his entire career. He's currently set to count around $5.3 million against the salary cap in 2020 on the fourth year of his rookie deal, but the expectation is that he'll sign a long-term extension and become the highest-paid player in the NFL. The 24-year-old was the MVP in 2018 and led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl title last season. Mahomes' 2019 regular season wasn't nearly as good as his 2018 campaign, but he remains in consideration to be the first QB off the board in fantasy drafts alongside Lamar Jackson.

From RotoBaller

May 21 6:23pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had his fifth-year option picked up for the 2021 season this offseason, but team chairman Clark Hunt said Wednesday, May 20, the team will begin negotiations on a long-term contract extension this summer. 'What he has said and what we've said, both sides is, he wants to be a Kansas City Chief for life, and that's our mentality as well,' Hunt said. 'We want him to play his entire career in Kansas City, and that's what we're going to be shooting for.'

Fantasy Spin: The former MVP and reigning Super Bowl champ is widely expected to become the league's highest-paid player whenever the contract is completed. There's little reason to doubt the Chiefs will do everything required to ensure the deal gets done, and Mahomes will remain a top fantasy quarterback for the foreseeable future with a strong supporting cast in tow.
