Fales was the third-string quarterback for the Dolphins much of last season and didn't get in a game. He will try to move up the depth chart this season and serve as the top backup. He got a chance to play the '17 season and played pretty well, completing 67 percent of his passes for 265 yards. Fales doesn't have a great arm but is accurate on shorter throws and does the little things well at the quarterback position. He had a lot of success in college because of his poise and intelligence. He might not have a strong enough arm to be a starter in the NFL, though. He also lacks a little size for the position.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Fales is a stretch for fantasy teams because of his inexperience. You just aren't sure what he would do with extended playing time.

Free Agent quarterback David Fales has been released by the Detroit Lions. Fales has had a fairly lackluster preseason after quarterback Tom Savage went down with a concussion in Week 1 of the preseason; Fales had an opportunity to prove himself but was just unable to earn a roster spot. Savage has returned to practice and it seems that the Lions were content with moving on with Fales.
Free-agent QB Luis Perez (Eagles) signed an undisclosed deal with the Detroit Lions Tuesday, Aug. 27. QB David Fales was released.
Detroit Lions quarterback David Fales went 12/19 for 226 yards and a touchdown in the Lions second preseason game against the Texans. With Tom Savage out on concussion protocol, Fales is competing with Josh Johnson to be Stafford's backup come regular season in a few weeks. This performance will certainly help Fales' case. Fales remains worthless in all fantasy formats as long as Stafford remains healthy.
Detroit Lions QB Josh Johnson worked with the second-team offense in his first practice with the team Saturday, Aug 10, but Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press expects Johnson to overtake QB David Fales for the backup quarterback spot.
Detroit Lions QB David Fales was 5-for-14 for 62 yards and one interception in the first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 8. Fales was sacked six times.
Detroit Lions quarterback David Fales was limited to just 14 attempts for 62 yards and an interception in Thursday night's preseason matchup against the Patriots. Fales is listed as the third quarterback on the Lion's depth chart and last nights performance certainly didn't help his cause. David Fales will continue to be fantasy irrelevant unless Stafford and Savage both go down with injuries.
Free-agent OL Luke Bowanko (Redskins) and QB David Fales (Dolphins) signed undisclosed contracts with the Detroit Lions on Monday, June 10. The Lions also waived QB Connor Cook and S David X. Jones to make room for them on the roster.
