Garoppolo lasted three games as the starter for the 49ers before tearing his ACL. It was a shame because he seemed to be gaining confidence in the offense and making strides as a starter. He had multiple touchdowns without an interception each of his last two games. He finished the season completing 60 percent of his passes for 718 yards, having at least 200 passing yards all three games he played. He should be healthy for the start of this year. Garoppolo is the franchise quarterback for the 49ers. He is a talented young player. He has a very quick release and a good arm. He is accurate on underneath throws and improving on his deep throws. Garoppolo isn't the biggest quarterback, so durability is a slight concern, especially since he was injured his first season as a full-time starter. He has all the tools to be an elite quarterback in this league.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Garoppolo was a bust last year but he has the tools to be a legit fantasy starter, especially if the 49ers give him some more talent to work with offensively. He has a chance to be a fantasy difference maker at a pretty good price for fantasy teams, who should be able to get him as a No. 2 fantasy quarterback. Expect around 4,000 yards and 30 total touchdowns with 13 or so interceptions in the 49ers pass-first offense.
San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is a very enticing QB2 sleeper to consider in the later rounds of fantasy drafts this season. Though he only has 10 professional starts to his name, he has a 16/8 TD/INT ratio in those starts and has averaged a tidy 8.5 yards per attempt as a 49er. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has an impressive history of getting the most from his system's quarterbacks, and the 49ers boast an intriguing array of weapons that include Dante Pettis, Deebo Samuel, Trent Taylor, Marquise Goodwin, George Kittle, and newcomer Tevin Coleman. Though Jimmy G is still bit of an unknown, the best we can do as fantasy football players is to make an educated projection about his range of outcomes. All reports are that he is fully healthy, and it looks like we'll finally get the chance to see what the former heir apparent to Tom Brady is capable of. He's being drafted at 125 overall (QB19), and he's a great bet to vastly outperform his ADP and finish as a top-15 quarterback this season. Target Jimmy Garoppolo as a rock-solid QB2 who's brimming with upside.
|No Playoff Match Up|
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will likely be shorthanded heading into Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals. Garoppolo committed three turnovers in Week 10 and enters Sunday down stud tight end George Kittle (knee, ankle) and No. 1 receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Jimmy G draws a beatable Cardinals Defense who he shredded for four touchdowns in Week 9, but the savory matchup shouldnt be assumed. After last Mondays abomination, Garoppolo is up to 11 turnovers and will have up-and-down rookie wideout Deebo Samuel as his top passing option. With the Niners dealing with a banged-up backfield, Garoppolo will be tasked to transcend his season-long game manager style. Consider him an upside QB2 on Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 24-of-46 passes for 248 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 10 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo exploded for a season-high 317 yards and four touchdowns last week in Arizona, but he was back to mediocrity for his fantasy owners in this one. He and his teammates will be back in action in a rematch with the Cardinals in Week 11.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo struggled in Week 10s loss to the Seattle Seahawks, completing just 24 of 46 passes for 248 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Jimmy G was under duress all evening, with defensive end Jadeveon Clowney manhandling the Niners offensive line. Garoppolo absorbed five sacks and lost two fumbles, one returned by Clowney for a touchdown. Without tight end George Kittle (knee) and wideout Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) exiting midgame, Garoppolo struggled with his makeshift receiving corps outside of rookie wideout Deebo Samuels who popped with 112 yards. It was another sloppy game for Garoppolo, whos struggled with consistency all season. With several chances to win the game, Garoppolo looked extremely shaky and lacked command of the hurry-up offense. Hell be a QB2 in an attractive Week 11 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will attempt an encore of his four-touchdown spectacle in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks. After shredding the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9, Garoppolo draws another favorable matchup against the 21st-ranked Seattle pass defense by DVOA. Garoppolo has mixed in promising games with several turnover-filled clunkers, yet to find consistency this season. In Mondays NFC West showdown, mistakes will be costly. Expect the Niners to rely heavily on its rushing attack to keep Seattle off the field, but Garoppolo could have ample opportunities in what might be a sneaky shootout. With security blanket tight end George Kittle (knee) and newly acquired veteran wideout Emmanuel Sanders at his disposal, Jimmy G is a solid fantasy QB2.
San Francisco 49ers left tackle Joe Staley (leg) went through a full practice on Tuesday for the first time since fracturing the fibula in his left leg on Sept. 15, and he thinks he'll be ready to return in Week 10 on Monday night football against the Seahawks. "I feel good," the six-time Pro Bowl left tackle said. "If everything goes according to plan, Ill be out there this week. Today, I was out there for the full practice, which was the first time." Rookie Justin Skule has been starting in place of Staley, and the Niners are the only undefeated team left in football. While Staley could be limited if he plays, his return would be good news for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the team's running game.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 28 of his 37 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9.
Fantasy Spin: This was by far Jimmy G's best game, setting a season high in passing yards and touchdowns while not turning it over for just the second time this year. Kyle Shanahan showed confidence in Garoppolo as well, putting the ball in his hands to run out the clock and preserve the win. The question is how much of it was improvement in the passing game and how much was a shaky Cardinals defense? We might start getting that answer in a huge Week 10 showdown with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo carved up the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9, passing for 317 yards and four touchdowns in a victory. After game managing all season, Garoppolo surpassed 300 yards for the first time this season against a predictably awful Cards defense, posting a season-best passer rating of 136.9. Jimmy G kept the chains moving all evening, throwing touchdowns to four different receivers and icing the game with several back-breaking first downs in the final minutes. The flawless game was unexpected, but Garoppolo rewarded any fantasy manager that trusted him on Thursday. Hell be back on the QB2 radar in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is fine with his role amidst the Niners undefeated start. Entering Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals, the passing attack has become a tertiary thought to the teams dominant defense and run game. Garoppolo hasnt helped himself, committing nine turnovers in seven contests. Jimmy G should continue playing game manager in what could be a lopsided Thursday night showdown. Expect Garoppolo to feed chain-moving tight end George Kittle and have a couple scoring opportunities, but the team should keep leaning on the run-heaviest offense in football. Hell be an upside QB2 in an attractive matchup.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 18 of 22 passes for 175 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception during the team's 51-13 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Fantasy Spin: For the fourth time this season, and third time in four weeks, Garoppolo passed for less than 200 yards. He's simply being asked to make smart plays and let the 49ers' dynamic running game wear down opponents. That may be a recipe for winning, but it's not a recipe for fantasy value.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 18 of 22 passes for 175 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Week 8s blowout of the Carolina Panthers. He also absorbed three sacks including a safety. Garoppolo opened the scoring with a 4-yard dart to wideout Emmanuel Sanders in the first quarter, then found running back Tevin Coleman for a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He wasnt tasked with much else as the Niners manhandled the overmatched Panthers 51-13. Garoppolo has been uneven this season, committing his eighth turnover on Sunday, but the team keeps winning. With the undefeated Niners racking up 232 rushing yards in Week 8, Garoppolo will continue wearing the game manager tag in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is excited about the addition of WR Emmanuel Sanders, and he said he is willing to help get the receiver up to speed quickly. 'I'll do my best to, but receiver-quarterback is a little bit different in what you have to learn, specifics and that nature,' Garoppolo said Wednesday, Oct. 23. 'But yeah, anything I can do to help him. I'm going to put in the extra time with him, whatever it takes, really.'
Fantasy Spin: The addition of Sanders gives the team an NFL-caliber No. 1 receiver, something they have honestly been lacking, with perhaps a bunch of secondary or tertiary options trying to fill the role. George Kittle is the team's leading receiver in catches and yardage by a wide margin. The addition of Sanders is great for the fantasy appeal of Garoppolo, although he still remains more of a QB2 in most fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 12 of 21 passes for 151 yards, no scores and an interception in Week 7 against the Washington Redskins. The Niners leaned on their defense and wet conditions to overmatch the Redskins in the 9-0 shutout. The nondescript performance from Garoppolo has become the norm, as hes managed the team to a sparkling 6-0 start to 2019. With the continued emphasis on the run game and Jimmy G yet to push the gas, hell remain a middling QB2 in Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo went 12-for-21 for 151 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception against the Washington Redskins in Week 7. He also rushed for 20 yards on four carries during the game.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo was playing in inclement weather, so he did not throw a lot during the game. He should have more success against the Carolina Panthers next week and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo enters Week 7 against the Washington Redskins with seven turnovers through five games (five picks, two fumbles). While he draws a cake matchup against the one-win Skins, Garoppolo is just an upside QB2 facing a weak pass defense. To climb the ranks of fantasy relevance, Garoppolo needs to stop committing mistakes and opposing teams must force the Niners away from their dominant rushing attack. That probably wont happen in Week 7 with the 49ers heavy favorites. While the run-heavy game plan partially offsets the juicy matchup, Garoppolo could finish the week a top-15 quarterback.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 24 of 33 passes for 243 scoreless yards in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams. He also threw a pick and lost a fumble. Jimmy G was once against careless with the football, committing his seventh turnover in five contests. Fortunately, the Niners secured the victory. The sixth-year signal caller has been extremely shaky this season but his team remains undefeated. With the offenses heavy emphasis on the run game, Garoppolo is a tough trust in fantasy. Hell be a QB2 with upside against the Washington Redskins in Week 7.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been the quintessential game manager amidst the teams early-season undefeated run. With the Niners leading the league in rushing plays (57 percent), Jimmy G has yet to surpass 300 pass yards in any contest. That could change in Week 6 when the Niners play underdogs against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams boast a stiff rush defense but have been vulnerable against the pass, ranking 24th by DVOA. Outside of safety net tight end George Kittle, Garoppolo has been indiscriminate in his target, finding the open receiver. That could bode well on Sunday if Garoppolo can protect the football. Searching for just his second mistake-free performance, Garoppolo is an upside QB2 in Week 6.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20 of 29 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns in Week 5s blowout victory against the Cleveland Browns. The Niners offense again leaned on its elite rushing attack, accumulating 275 yards on the ground but Garoppolo contributed with a 5-yard touchdown dart to running back Matt Breida in the first quarter. He later found tight end George Kittle for a 22-yard score in the third frame. Garoppolo spread the rock to eight different receivers but was always able to find his security blanket Kittle to move the chains. Jimmy G hasnt been flawless in 2019 but hes capitalized on the surrounding talent when hes not committing costly turnovers. Hell be in the mix as a QB2 in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20-of-29 passes for 181 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo easily outperformed his counterpart Baker Mayfield, and he didn't make any miscues. Still, the yardage total was just so-so, and he remains more of a QB2 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 6 and beyond.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is still looking for consistency entering Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns. Garoppolo has five passing touchdowns through three games but has also committed five turnovers (four interceptions). The undefeated Niners have leaned heavily on their elite run blocking unit and rushing attack, minimizing their demands on the passing game. San Francisco takes on a tough Browns pass defense on Monday night and a similar game script is expected. Without an uptick in pass plays or consistency, Jimmy G will stay a middling QB2.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo finished 23-of-32 for 277 yards and a touchdown to go along with two interceptions in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had three yards rushing on six carries and lost one of his two fumbles.
Fantasy Spin: While not having a clear alpha receiver probably isn't helping his cause, Garoppolo hasn't been particularly sharp in two of his three games. Of course, expectations should have been kept in check early this season anyway considering he is still working his way back from ACL surgery. Garoppolo will have plenty of things to work on heading into the team's Week 4 bye and will be a middling QB2 option at best in Week 5 versus the Cleveland Browns.
