2019 RTSports Outlook

Hunt was having a huge season before an off the field incident led to his release by the Chiefs. He was not picked up by another team the rest of the way. Hunt played 11 games before his release, totaling 1,202 total yards and 14 touchdowns. He was 12th overall in fantasy running back scoring despite missing the last five games. He had five games with 100-plus total yards. Hunt gets a fresh start this season with the Browns, splitting work with Nick Chubb. Hunt will serve an eight-game suspension to start the season but should be a big part of the offense once he returns. Hunt is a big back that hits the hole in a hurry and does a good job of reading his blocks. He is a legit three-down back. He catches the ball well and has good moves in space.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: You can't deny his talent and production on the field. Hunt is a supremely talented back. It will be interesting to see how he is used with Chubb around. This duo should form a great one-two punch but splitting work never helps a player's fantasy value. Hunt might have a few less big games in his current role, but expect solid production. Take him as a low-end No. 2 back but plan for all his missed time. He can get around 700 total yards and six touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Talent has never been the issue with Kareem Hunt. After leading the NFL in rushing as a rookie in 2017, he was on pace to do the same in 2018 before off-field issues derailed his season and almost his career. In 11 games, Hunt had 824 rush yards and seven touchdowns on 181 carries. In the passing game, he was also dominant with 26 receptions for 378 yards and an additional seven touchdowns. In 2019 he will not only be on a new team in the Cleveland Browns, but unlike his first two seasons with Kansas City, he will also be in a true committee back scenario with Nick Chubb. In addition,he will miss the first eight games of the season, and with the Browns having a Week 7 bye this means the first nine games of your fantasy season. Is this someone you want to draft and hold until then in hopes he can win you playoff games? Currently, Hunt is going off the board as the RB33. This means he is going in front of options like Jordan Howard and LeSean McCoy. This is a dangerous proposition as we dont know how he will be used once he does come back. No, Nick Chubb is not a pass catcher, but Duke Johnson is. If Johnson has a solid first eight games, Cleveland may not be able to take him out in favor of Hunt. We know Chubb is going to be the first and second down back as long as he is healthy. So again. What of Hunt if Johnson pans out and Chubb is healthy? While Kareem Hunt could add explosiveness to any offense, the Browns will not want to rock the boat if things are clicking on all cylinders.Hunt's contract is only for $1 million, and in todays NFL, this is chump change. Cleveland will not want to have Chubb lose any confidence by reducing his role in favor of someone who may or may not be on the team in 2020. I refer you to the adage, better safe than sorry. In this case, it means it is safer for you not to draft him and let someone else do it. If they are struggling later in the season, you might be able to trade for him cheap, and if there is any value in him, you will have him. If you cant trade for him? Well, then there are other backs out there who will help you all season which are a better seventh-round pick. Do not waste a pick this high on someone who wont be available until Week 10.

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt will 'absolutely' continue to play a big role in the passing game, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt has 13 catches for 90 yards in two games for the Browns, and he has become a safety valve of sorts for quarterback Baker Mayfield. Throw in a handful of carries, and he is worth considering as a flex option in PPR formats.

From TheHuddle

Nov 15 2:23am ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt ran six times for 12 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11. He also caught six passes for 46 yards.

Fantasy Spin: For one week at least, Cleveland's passing game flowed through three players: Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry and Hunt. That trio was targeted on 25 of the team's 32 passes. It certainly looks like Nick Chubb will be their bruiser, and Hunt will chip in on passing downs. In that role he holds some flex appeal.

Nov 15 12:00am ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt carried the ball six times for 12 yards and added six receptions for 46 yards in a 21-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11. Hunt continues to be deployed as Cleveland's passing-down back, out-targeting Nick Chubb eight to one in the contest. Chubb also appeared to tweak his groin toward the end of the game, which could lead to more work for Hunt against the Miami Dolphins in Week 12 if Chubb is unable to play or is limited. Hunt's work in the passing game has him on the radar as a flex option in PPR leagues going forward.

From RotoBaller

Nov 13 11:20am ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt looked good in his season debut against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10. The veteran running back only saw four carries but he was used heavily in the passing game, catching 7-of-9 targets and often lined up as a wide receiver. Hunt draws a tough Week 11 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a defense that ranks 11th in DVOA against the run and is allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. While it isn't a great matchup, Hunt should see enough work in the passing game to merit a start as a flex option in PPR leagues against Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

From RotoBaller

Nov 12 9:13pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt played 54 percent of the offensive snaps against the Buffalo Bills Sunday, Nov. 10, but starter Nick Chubb played a three-week high of 81 percent in the 19-16 victory. RB Dontrell Hilliard played just eight offensive snaps for his lowest total since Week 5.

Fantasy Spin: Chubb ran 20 times for 116 yards while catching two of four targets for just five yards. Hunt totaled 74 yards from scrimmage on 11 touches with seven receptions and four carries. It's quite possible both could be effective fantasy options in the same games, but Chubb remains the definitive No. 1 option.

From TheHuddle

Nov 11 3:13pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt will 'continue to get opportunities,' and head coach Freddie Kitchens expects Hunt's role to continue growing after playing well in Week 10.

Fantasy Spin: If the Browns have done one thing right this season, it might be that Nick Chubb has been a near-lock for 20 touches. That didn't change in Hunt's debut, even though the former Kansas City Chief finished with four carries and seven catches. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out going forward, but 10 touches per week will be enough for someone with Hunt's talent to be a serviceable flex option in most leagues.

From TheHuddle

Nov 10 5:43pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt rushed four times for 30 yards with seven receptions for 44 yards on nine targets in Week 10 against the Buffalo Bills in his team debut.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt's eight-game suspension ended before the bye and he was able to make his team debut, totaling 11 touches to 22 for Nick Chubb. As such, Hunt is worth a look as a RB3 or flex fantasy play in leagues of 12 or more teams moving forward. The Browns meet the Steelers in Week 11 on Thursday night.

From TheHuddle

Nov 10 5:40pm ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt carried the ball four times for 30 yards and caught 7-of-9 targets for 44 yards in a 19-16 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 10. In his first game with Cleveland, Hunt wound up operating as the team's primary pass-catching back, finishing third on the team in targets behind Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. While it is apparent that Hunt isn't going to siphon away very many of Nick Chubb's carries, he still merits instant flex consideration in PPR leagues thanks to his pass-catching role. Cleveland will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11.

Nov 10 9:30am ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt is slated to make his 2019 debut in Week 10 after serving an eight-game suspension. Hunt is expected to have a role with the Browns in their Week 10 showdown against the Buffalo Bills. While the workload split between Hunt and starter Nick Chubb is unknown, offensive coordinator Todd Monken told reporters that "anything's possible" when asked about whether the two could share the field. Fantasy gamers should treat Hunt as a flex option in fantasy for this week until they see how Cleveland plans to deploy the former Kansas City Chief.

From RotoBaller

Nov 4 2:13pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt will 'definitely have a role' in his return from suspension in Week 10 against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Freddie Kitchens Monday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Spin: Nick Chubb has played 74.6% of the offensive snaps this season while Dontrell Hilliard has played 17%. Hunt was much more involved in the ground game than as a pass-catcher during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. Look for him to take over the backup duties from Hilliard before slowly taking touches away from Chubb.

From TheHuddle

Oct 21 12:33pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt (abdomen) has been cleared by the NFL to rejoin the team and begin practicing with them Monday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt has been sidelined all season recovering from sports hernia surgery and serving an eight-game suspension for domestic abuse for an incident that occurred during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. The former rushing champion is not eligible to return to game action until Week 10, so Nick Chubb will serve as a team's featured back for at least two more weeks. It's expected Hunt will serve as the change-of-pace back when he returns.

From TheHuddle

Oct 5 1:33am ET

Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb will remain the team's primary back even after the return of RB Kareem Hunt from suspension, according to The Athletic's Jay Glazer, who says Hunt will be used as a change of pace.

Fantasy Spin: Chubb has been Cleveland's best offensive player over the first month and is solidly among the top-10 fantasy backs. The caveat has always been how much Hunt will play when he returns from suspension. If Glazer is correct, Chubb should remain an RB1 throughout the season with Hunt being a possible flex option upon returning.

From TheHuddle

Aug 29 6:23pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt (groin) underwent surgery for a sports hernia Thursday, Aug. 29. He is expected to need four to six weeks to recover.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt was already going to miss the first eight games of the season due to suspension, so if there was any time for this issue to be addressed, now is as good as any. The former Kansas City Chief will not be allowed to be around the team beginning Saturday until his suspension ends after Week 8, and he won't see the field until Week 10 at the earliest due to the team's Week 9 bye. Hunt is worth stashing in deeper leagues or ones that have an IR spot, but that's about it for now.

From TheHuddle

Aug 29 6:20pm ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt had hernia surgery on Thursday but he is expected to be ready by Week 10, when he is eligible to be reinstated from suspension. The surgery assures that Hunt will be spending a majority of his eight-game suspension rehabbing as he awaits his Cleveland debut against the Buffalo Bills later in the season. While he will be rehabbing, he will not be able to do so at the team facility as the NFL determined he must vacate the facility on Saturday and may not return until the suspension is over. Promising running back Dontrell Hilliard will operate in Hunt's third-down back role while he is out.

From RotoBaller

Aug 28 4:10pm ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt's petition was denied by the NFL to remain with the team during his eight-game suspension for violating the personal-conduct policy, according to league spokesman Brian McCarthy. The Browns will have to abide by terms of the policy, and Hunt will attend counseling and workout sessions on his own. Hunt could be a valuable piece during the fantasy stretch run, but he's likely going to need a game or two to kick the rust off. He's worth stashing in deeper leagues, but it's a dicey move in traditional leagues, as you're banking on good health from your roster.

From RotoBaller

Aug 28 4:03pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt will not be allowed to be around the team's facilities during his eight-game suspension.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt should have a role in the offense during the season half of the 2019 season. Fantasy players can consider taking Hunt in their drafts if they are able to stash him on the bench for eight weeks.

From TheHuddle

Aug 23 10:40pm ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt carried the ball five times for 11 yards in his team's third preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday. He also added a three-yard reception in the game. With Nick Chubb sitting out to rest, Hunt got the start and played into the second quarter in the game. The third-year running back has now totaled 17 rushing yards on seven carries across two preseason games. Hunt has to serve an eight-game suspension to open the season but he's expected to fill the passing-down role behind Chubb once he is reinstated for the second half. He should not be drafted outside of deep leagues this year.

From RotoBaller

Aug 17 8:20pm ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt saw two touches in a 21-18 preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday. Hunt carried the ball twice for six yards and was unable to haul in his lone target in the win. The game action marked Hunt's preseason debut after he was not involved in the preseason opener last week. Hunt will begin serving an eight-game suspension once the regular season begins but he has some value as a flex option in PPR leagues when he does come back. Of course, using a draft pick on him will require a fantasy owner to keep him on the roster for over half of the fantasy regular season. That only seems like a viable plan in leagues with large roster settings.

From RotoBaller

Aug 17 7:20am ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt could see "meaningful action" during Saturday's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. Hunt struggled with a groin injury early in camp and did not take the field last Thursday in the team's preseason opener against Washington. Hunt saw a lot of reps in this past Thursday's practice and only has limited preseason time to get acclimated to the offense before his eight-game suspension begins. It will be worth monitoring how the team uses Hunt in the offense on Saturday against the Colts.
