2019 RTSports Outlook

Ware was setup to get a big workload late in the year but a hamstring injury sidelined him the last three games. This opened the door for Damien Williams, who shined as the starter for the Chiefs. Ware was the top backup much of the year before the emergence of Williams. Ware had 470 total yards in 13 games. Ware is 27 years old and has done well in a starting role past seasons with the Chiefs. He could have a similar backup role this year with the Colts. Ware is a big back that does his best work between tackles. He isn't a speed burner by any means but is capable of the big game. Ware is a much improved receiver since entering the league, having 53 receptions his last two seasons.

FANTASY OUTLOOK:   Ware has some value if injury occurs but is not worth a roster spot until that happens. He will get sporadic work in a backup role for the Colts. Expect around 400 total yards with a few scores and 15 receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

How quickly we forget that Spencer Ware was trending as an RB1 in 2016. The man has talent. If not for a preseason knee injury in 2017, who knows if Kareem Hunt ever happens. Then in 2018, Ware was about to be the lead back in Kansas City again after Hunt was released before he was once again thwarted due to injury. Ware now finds himself in Indianapolis, which, at first, seems less than ideal. However, Nyheim Hines will never be more than a satellite back and Jordan Wilkins is terrible at football. If something were to happen to Marlon Mack, who, you may recall, missed four games last season, Ware seems like the obvious choice to take over early down and goal line duties. I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to draft Ware. He is worth a late round dart throw, though, especially in deeper leagues. There is no reason Ware can't at least be a viable Flex play in the event of a Mack injury and with a three down skill set, he has a lot more upside than you think. There are certainly worse darts to throw.Update 8/13:Spencer Ware is now as far away from relevance as possible. He was placed on the PUP list due to an ankle injury and will miss at least the first six weeks of the season. The Colts have since signed D'Onta Foreman. Even if Ware does return to the Colts, which is no guarantee, he will have missed far too much time to be able to climb the depth chart without a slew of injuries in front of him. He shouldn't be drafted in even the deepest of leagues.

Indianapolis Colts RB Spencer Ware (ankle) was released from the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Sept. 20, and will be allowed to sign with another team next week, according to a source.

Aug 3 5:03pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Spencer Ware (ankle) is scheduled to undergo ankle surgery and will be sidelined for five to six weeks. He likely will be able to play this season if he receives an injury settlement from the Colts.

Aug 2 10:50pm ET

Indianapolis Colts running back Spencer Ware was expected to fight for the third or fourth running back spot, but, after struggling with an injury throughout training camp, the Colts placed him on the Reserved/Physically Unable to Perform list on Friday. He wasn't guaranteed a roster spot behind starter Marlon Mack and backups Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins, so this will make it even more difficult for him to maintain that position. At a minimum, he'll be out until Week 6.

Indianapolis Colts RB Spencer Ware (undisclosed) was placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list Friday, Aug. 2. The team also signed free-agent DE Dadi Nicolas (Colts). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Indianapolis Colts RB Spencer Ware (undisclosed) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 24, and he'll miss two weeks with an undisclosed muscle injury.

Fantasy Spin: Ware is a handcuff to Marlon Mack and could be worth an RB5 slot in his own right.

From TheHuddle

Jul 3 1:53am ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Spencer Ware could take over as the team's featured back if RB Marlon Mack were to miss time, in the opinion of The Fan's Kevin Bowen, who lists that scenario as 'quite possible.'

Fantasy Spin: This isn't a particularly bold stance as Nyheim Hines, who currently sits behind Mack on the depth chart, profiles as a change-of-pace back and not a true primary backup. With Mack as an RB2 you'd need to be in a pretty deep league to even consider carrying Ware as a handcuff, but just file the info away for a possible in-season addition if Mack goes down.

Jun 11 10:23pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RBs Jordan Wilkins, Jonathan Williams and Spencer Ware are vying to be Marlon Mack's 'mixer,' according to head coach Frank Reich.
