New England Patriots RB Sony Michel finished second in the league with 82 rushing attempts against defenses with eight or more defenders in the box in 2019, according to ESPN's Matt Bowen.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel averaged 19 carries for 73 yards and scored four touchdowns in three games with Rex Burkhead injured last season. In those same contests, Michel compiled six of his 12 catches for the year. In the 13 games Burkhead was active, Michel averaged 14.6 carries for 53 yards and scored only three times.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball 14 times for 61 yards and added nine receiving yards in the team's 20-13 loss to the Titans in the Wild Card Round. Michel averaged 4.4 yards per carry but the Patriots offense, once again, sputtered when it mattered most. It has been a very disappointing season for the second-year running back but had been running with more conviction in the final weeks. Until the Patriots quarterback situation is solved, all of New England's offensive weapons will be tough to project in fantasy for 2020.
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 20 of his 37 passes for 209 yards and an interception in a 20-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card round Saturday, Jan. 4. RB Sony Michel rushed 14 times for 61 yards and caught two passes for nine yards, and RB James White caught five passes for 62 yards and rushed once for 14 yards. WR Julian Edelman caught three of his five passes for 30 yards and rushed twice for 12 yards and a touchdown, WR N'Keal Harry caught two of his seven targets for 21 yards, WR Mohamed Sanu caught one of his four passes for 11 yards, WR Phillip Dorsett caught one of his four targets for six yards, and TE Benjamin Watson caught three of his four targets for 38 yards. LB Dont'a Hightower led the team with nine tackles, including eight solo stops and one tackle for loss.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel had a disappointing sophomore season for fantasy owners but will look to redeem himself in the playoffs starting in Wild Card weekend vs Tennessee. Michel only rushed for 912 yards this year on just 3.7 yards per carry this season but is trending upwards as the playoffs get underway. Michel out-touched fellow running back Rex Burkhead 60-24 over the last three weeks and was a monster in last year's Super Bowl run. James White will handle passing downs work for New England and it's always unpredictable what Bill Belichick will do with his backfield in the postseason but Michel should see close to 20 touches, making him a fine play vs a very average Titans run defense.
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 16-of-29 passes for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in an upset loss at home to the Miami Dolphins. RB Sony Michel led the way with 74 rushing yards on 18 attempts while scoring a touchdown, with RB Rex Burkhead adding 48 yards on six carries. WR Phillip Dorsett had a team-high 50 yards on one grab with four targets, while LB/FB Elandon Roberts had a 38-yard touchdown on his only touch. RB James White also added a score while finishing with three catches for 33 yards, and WR Julian Edelman managed three grabs for 26 yards on seven targets. WR N'Keal Harry also had three catches for 29 yards on seven targets while running once for nine yards.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel racked up 74 rushing yards with one touchdown in the team's 27-24 loss to the Dolphins in Week 17. Michel popped up on the injury report late in the week with an illness but was able to suit up and produce. Michel led the team with 18 carries and now is averaging 4.4 yards per carry with 259 yards over his last three games. But it was too little too late in what should be considered a disappointing sophomore season. Michel finishes up the year with 912 rushing yards, 19 yards less than last season, despite his arrow pointing upwards heading into the playoffs.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (illness) is officially active for the team's Week 17 game.
Fantasy Spin: Michel likely will receive most of the carries this week against the Miami Dolphins and should be a must-start option in all fantasy leagues.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman (knee, shoulder) and running back Sony Michel (illness) are both active for Week 17 against the Dolphins. Edelman continues to receive treatment for tendinitis in his left knee, and his injured shoulder is worse than most people can possibly imagine. He'll gut it out at less than 100 percent for a game the Patriots must win to secure a first-round bye. Edelman has seen only 11 targets the last two games and is a bit more volatile for fantasy purposes, but he'll keep WR1 upside in a great spot against Miami. Michel has more upside as an RB2 this week, but it'll be as a touchdown-dependent back who is rarely utilized in the passing attack.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (illness) is expected to play in Week 17's game against the Miami Dolphins, according to a league source.
Fantasy Spin: Michel had been listed as questionable after being added to the injury report because of a minor illness Saturday, Dec. 28. Since the Patriots still have an opportunity to clinch a first-round bye, Michel could see a decent number of carries this afternoon and could be an RB2 or flex option in most fantasy formats this week.
Despite being a late addition to the injury report, New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (illness) is expected to suit up on Sunday against the Dolphins for the season finale. With the Patriots needing a win to guarantee they get a first round bye, Michel playing isn't much of a surprise. It's not been a great second season for the Patriots runner, but the Dolphins are an attractive matchup and Michel's presence in the early slate of games means that you can at least be confident he'll get touches and not be a victim of the Week 17 benched starters syndrome.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (illness) has been added to the Week 17 injury report against the Dolphins and is questionable to play on Sunday. The flu has been going around many clubhouses this time of year. We still expect Michel to suit up for a game that the Patriots must win in order to secure a first-round bye, but you'll need to check Sunday morning inactives to make sure. The second-year back has become a one-dimensional, touchdown-dependent RB2/3 in this crowded New England backfield, and now he carries even more risk despite the great matchup with the Dolphins. Michel had 21 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 against Miami. Both James White and Rex Burkhead would become more attractive flex and DFS plays if Michel is held out.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (illness) was added to the injury report Saturday, Dec. 28, and is listed as questionable for the game Sunday, Dec. 29, against the Miami Dolphins.
Fantasy Spin: James White and Rex Burkhead should be expected to make up most of the work left by Michel if he's forced to sit. Rookie Damien Harris could also see some action in the regular-season finale if Michel is ruled out.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel will try and finish up the regular season strong against the Dolphins in Week 17. It has been a wildly inconsistent season for the second-year running back but he has 185 rushing yards over his last two games. Now he will take on a Dolphins Defense that is allowing the fourth most fantasy points to running backs this season. Michel posted 83 yards and a touchdown against Miami in Week 2 and the Patriots could lean heavily on the running game in the second half of this game. Michel will have streaming appeal in DFS tournaments in Week 17.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball 21 times for 96 yards in the team's 24-17 win over the Bills in Week 16. The second-year running back averaged 4.6 yards per carry and posted his second quality game in a row. Michel still is not a threat in the passing game but has the speed to hit the edges when the Patriots deploy their zone running attack. Michel now has 185 rushing yards over the past two games but has not found the end zone since October 21.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel carried the ball 21 times for a team-high 96 rushing yards Saturday, Dec. 21, against the Buffalo Bills. He added one five-yard reception.
Fantasy Spin: Michel ceded the team's lone rushing score to Rex Burkhead, taking away from what could have been a huge fantasy game. He has carried the ball 40 times over the last two weeks and is dominating the work out of the backfield.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel will face a Bills run defense in Week 16 that is allowing the 12th fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. Michel posted 17 carries for 63 yards in Week 4 against Buffalo but has been an extremely inconsistent season for the second-year back. One week Michel goes from 10-15 carries to five or less the next week and is averaging only 3.6 yards per carry. Michel posted 89 yards last week on 19 carries and could see double-digit touches in this game with the Patriots passing game in a slump. But Michel's fantasy viability is as volatile as it gets and will be a risky play in Week 16.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed 19 times for 89 yards in Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals and he added one catch for 14 yards on his two targets.
Fantasy Spin: Michel had a decent day going over the century mark in total scrimmage yards, but he remains more of a low-end RB2 or flex fantasy play heading into Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel was back in the team's offensive graces this week, posting a team-high 19 carries for 89 yards with 14 receiving yards in the Patriots victory over the Bengals. One week after having his snaps severely cut down, the second-year running back delivered some solid production. Teammate Rex Burkhead scored in the red zone but Michel was leaned on throughout the game to move the chains. While this doesn't automatically have Michel back in fantasy starting lineups, it does help his value heading into the final two games of the season.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel will take on a Bengals Defense in Week 15 that is allowing the eighth most fantasy points to opposing backs this season. But Michel has completely fallen off the fantasy map as of late, totaling only 15 carries for 53 yards over his last two games. Matters got so bad for Michel last week that James White, Brandon Bolden and Rex Burkhead all saw more carries in the game than him. The second-year running back has been a major disappointment this season and pinning your fantasy hopes on him as a starter in Week 15 would be a mistake.
