2019 RTSports Outlook

Samuel was a second-round pick for the 49ers in this year's draft. He gives the team some more depth at receiver and could challenge for the slot receiver job his rookie year. Samuel is a good route runner that can make plenty of plays after the catch. He also can be used all over the field as a running back, in the slot or on the outside. Speed is a bit of a concern for him, but that didn't seem to be much of an issue for him in college.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Samuel will get some touches his rookie year but likely be a little hit or miss for fantasy teams to trust. He might not have consistent fantasy production. Look for around 600 total yards and four or five scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

The San Francisco 49ers invested a second-round pick in Deebo Samuel and want him as a staple of their offense going forward. Their wide receiver room is a cornucopia of talented pass-catchers who mostly do not exactly have set roles going into the 2019 season. Dante Pettis is probably the most talented of the bunch but has struggled in camp according to some reports, however, is likely to bounce-back and fill duties as the WR1. Marquise Goodwin is the group's elder but is not guaranteed a full-time role due to his skillset. Trent Taylor is mostly stuck in the slot and Jalen Hurd is coming off of an injury and unlikely to have a significant role throughout the year. Kendrick Bourne and Jordan Matthews are JAGs who should steal some play-time. Samuel is an extremely talented WR who can play all over the field and provide after-the-catch playmaking to match his versatility. If he can take a stranglehold on a job after preseason, banking a double-digit round draft pick on him (particularly in PPR leagues) would be wise. The situation is one to watch as these August games unfold.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel snatched two of four targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in Week 13 against the Baltimore Ravens. The rookie also added a 20-yard rush. Most Niners pass-catchers were rendered useless in the rainy battle but Samuel made the stat sheet with an impressive 33-yard contested touchdown catch on the opening drive. After an inconsistent start to his career, the 2019 second-rounder has 20 catches for 337 yards and two touchdowns in his last four contests. With the game seemingly slowing down, Samuel has surpassed veteran Emmanuel Sanders on the depth chart and will settle as a solid WR3 in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (ankle, knee), wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) and Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and kicker Robbie Gould (quadriceps) were all taken off the final injury report for Week 13 against the Ravens. Kittle returned last Sunday and went off for over 100 yards and a touchdown against the Packers. Despite the tough matchup, he's a must-start fantasy tight end. Sanders and Samuel are the top two receivers for the team, but the Ravens have been very stingy against wideouts of late. In a run-first offense, Sanders is more of a WR4, while Samuel is trending up as a boom/bust WR3. Gould will be returning for the first time since Halloween. He had been struggling before his injury, so fantasy owners should look to stay away.

Nov 27 4:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) and Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and running back Matt Breida (ankle) were all limited in practice on Wednesday. Kicker Robbie Gould (quadriceps) was also cleared to practice. At less than 100 percent the last two weeks, Sanders has just four catches for 48 yards. He hasn't done much of anything in his five games with San Fran other than his seven-catch, 112-yard, one-TD performance on Halloween against the Cardinals. Samuel, on the other hand, has a touchdown and two 100-yard games in the last three contests. He's become the better fantasy option over Sanders. Breida is on track to return after missing the last two weeks. He'd be an RB2/3 while splitting touches with Tevin Coleman. Breida's return would make Raheem Mostert hard to trust. Gould could also return this weekend, but he's not a recommended streamer if he's back on the field.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel caught both of his targets for 50 yards and a touchdown in a 37-8 victory over the Green Bay Packers. The rookie broke free of the Packers secondary at the end of the first half for a 42-yard catch-and-run score, his third touchdown of the year. Samuel received only two targets after seeing 21 in his last two games combined, though the 49ers had no reason to throw up 23-0 at the half. The 23-year-old ranks fourth among rookies in receiving yards and has been San Francisco's best receiver this year. Samuel will face an improved Baltimore Ravens secondary in Week 13.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) let Week 11's meeting with the Cardinals early, but not before catching eight passes for 134 yards. He's expected to play in Week 12 against the Packer. With how strong Samuel has come on after the past couple of games, he's worth a flex spot in most formats in what's suddenly becoming a strong 49ers passing offense.

From RotoBaller

Nov 23 3:40pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) is questionable for Week 12, but he's expected to play. The Green Bay Packers aren't a great matchup, but Samuel has been productive the last five weeks in point-per-reception leagues. He has 23 grabs for 305 yards and no touchdowns, which ranks him 22nd in fantasy points during the stretch. Samuel is a solid WR3 in PPR formats this week.

Nov 22 11:40am ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) is one of the multiple 49ers pass-catchers currently listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers. Samuel was a limited practice participant on Thursday, as was George Kittle (knee) and Emmanuel Sanders (ribs). Samuel's upside if he suits up fluctuates from decent to extremely high depending on who is available. If Samuel plays and both Kittle and Sanders are out, Samuel could have a field day against a Packers Defense that ranks amongst the bottom third of the league in pass defense. If all three are a go, Samuel is still a viable starting option, but his target share would be significantly less.

Nov 21 10:40pm ET

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (ankle, knee) and wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) and Deebo Samuel (shoulder) were all limited in practice on Thursday. It's NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco's opinion that all three will play on Sunday night against the Packers. That'll especially ring true if all three get in at least another limited practice on Friday. If that's the case, Kittle will be a must-start TE1, with both Sanders and Samuel being acceptable WR3 cases with upside. The rookie Samuel has back-to-back 100-yard games and is closing the season out hot. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would also be a more appealing QB2 if all of his receivers are active.

Nov 21 5:00pm ET

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (knee) and rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) are taking part in practice on Thursday in non-contact jerseys. It's progress for both players, especially for Kittle, who has missed the last two games. The problem for both if they are game-time decisions is that they play on Sunday night against the Packers. San Fran's group of wideouts is in flux with Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) also questionable. Dante Pettis and Marquise Goodwin would be forced into more playing time, among others, if both Samuel and Sanders were inactive. Samuel has back-to-back 100-yard games and would be a solid WR3 if active. Kittle is a must-play if he's on the field, but Ross Dwelley is an acceptable replacement as a TE2 streamer if you take this to the wire Sunday night.

From RotoBaller

Nov 20 4:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) and Deebo Samuel (shoulder) were both missing from practice on Wednesday. With tight end George Kittle (ankle, knee) also in danger of missing his third straight game, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could be missing his best aerial targets on Sunday night against the Packers. If both Sanders and Samuel end up playing, they'll both be WR3s in what could be a shootout. If one or both of them can't play on Sunday night, Marquise Goodwin, Dante Pettis, Kendrick Bourne and Richie James could all take on bigger roles. Trying to predict which of them will have a big game, though, is a fool's errand.

Nov 17 8:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel was unleashed for 134 yards on eight catches in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals. Playing nearly every snap, Samuels 10 targets paced the team and his yardage more than doubled the second-closest pass-catcher. He exited briefly with a shoulder scare but returned to finish the contest. The second-round rookie was a chain-mover all game and made repeated plays to lead the Niners comeback victory. With wideout Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) seemingly aggravating his injury, Samuel could retain WR3 value heading into Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers.

Nov 14 3:10pm ET

The moment could be now for San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel. With tight end George Kittle (knee, ankle) and wideout Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) banged up in Week 10, Samuel drew a season-high 11 targets, converting them into eight grabs and 112 yards. With both Kittle and Sanders likely to miss Week 11s tilt against the Arizona Cardinals, Samuel is a plug-and-play WR3. Samuel possesses an intriguing speed and burst combination in the 80th percentile and ranks ninth in the NFL with an 86 percent catchable target rate. Although hes battled consistency this season, Samuel has a golden opportunity to embrace the lead dog role against a Cardinals pass defense ranked 26th in DVOA.

Nov 12 1:00am ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel cradled eight of 12 targets for 112 yards in Week 10s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Without tight end George Kittle (knee) and wideout Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) banged up, Samuel emerged as the premier aerial threat, hogging targets and repeatedly making clutch plays. His long went for 30 yards. Samuel has struggled to separate from the Niners crowded receiving corps this year, but he could be forced into a lead role if Sanders injury is serious. The talent is undeniable. Hell be a popular waiver wire add this week and is an upside WR4 against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 11.

From RotoBaller

Nov 7 1:00pm ET

San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel continues emerging as the clear No. 2 wideout in the passing attack. Since the arrival of veteran receiver Emmanuel Sanders, Samuels snap share has remained stable, with the biggest loser being Dante Pettis. Samuel saw seven looks in Week 9, missing out on a big day by allowing a wide-open touchdown pass clank off his hands. Despite the Niners low-volume aerial game, Samuel is an upside WR5 in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks. With Sanders and tight end George Kittle occupying Seattles primary attention, Samuel should continue drawing favorable matchups against a poor pass defense. In a crowded bye week, Samuels is a very playable option.

Nov 1 1:20am ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel cradled four of seven targets for 40 yards in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals. Samuel made several clutch plays including a handful of grabs down the stretch, but hell probably dwell on one major missed opportunity. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo found Samuel wide open in the end zone during the first half but the ball clanked off the rookies hands. Rookie mistake. The second-round pick continues to work into the offensive mix but has yet to break out, with just 22 catches for 227 yards and a touchdown. Hell stay on the WR5 board in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks.

From RotoBaller

Oct 30 6:30pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel draws a favorable matchup against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9 and is an upside WR5. The second-round rookie has endured a frustrating season, breaching five-plus targets just twice. Samuel scored his second touchdown last week, taking a 20-yard carry to the house. Despite just eight rush yards prior to Week 8, Samuel is a perceived big-play dual threat and could figure more into the running game with backs Matt Breida (ankle) and Raheem Mostert (knee) questionable. Against a weak Cardinals Defense, Samuel could convert his projected 4-6 touches into a big play, making him a boom-or-bust flex option for managers thin with bye weeks.

From RotoBaller

Oct 27 8:00pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel caught his three targets for 19 yards and added two rushes for 29 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers. The Niners passing attack wasnt required much in a 51-13 blowout, but Samuel made his impact with a 20-yard touchdowns scamper in the third quarter. The rookie was touted as a dual threat coming into the season but had just eight rushing yards prior to Sunday. Samuel played a decent amount even with the arrival of Emmanuel Sanders but his usage is too sporadic to trust as anything more than an upside WR5. The Niners face a poor Arizona Cardinals Defense in Week 9.

From RotoBaller

Oct 24 10:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel (groin) has been limited in practice this week and is expected to return to face the Panthers in Week 8 on Sunday. Samuel missed last week but should return after just a one-week absence to face Carolina. He shouldn't be trusted in the majority of leagues, though, especially since he's now fourth on the depth chart behind Emmanuel Sanders, Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis for targets in the passing game. Samuel is simply a dynasty stash right now.

From RotoBaller

Oct 23 8:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin), rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel (groin) and running back Raheem Mostert (knee) were all limited in practice on Wednesday. Kittle has been battling through injury and is being rested during the week. He will play in Week 8 against the Panthers and could be the overall TE1 in fantasy. Samuel didn't play last week but has a chance to get back on the field against Carolina. With Emmanuel Sanders now ahead of him on the depth chart with Dante Pettis and Marquise Goodwin, Samuel is purely a dynasty league stash. Mostert will only become fantasy relevant again if one of Tevin Coleman or Matt Breida miss time with an injury.

From RotoBaller

Oct 22 3:40pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers expect wide receiver Deebo Samuel (groin) to return in Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers. Samuel missed Week 7 but appears ready to practice and play against a tough Panthers pass defense this Sunday. Despite showing exciting flashes this season, the rookie is averaging just 4.4 targets and 33.6 yards per game. His fantasy value will be further impaired with the acquisition of veteran wideout Emmanuel Sanders. With the Niners leaning heavily on their running game and tight end George Kittle dominating target share, Samuel is gradually fading from redraft relevance. Hell be a desperation WR5 if he suits on in Week 8.
