2019 RTSports Outlook

Ajayi tore his ACL in Week 5, missing much of last season. He did start of the team before the injury but didn't do a whole lot in that role. He failed to top 70-rushing yards in a game and averaged 4.1 yards per carry. The big positive was his three touchdowns in four games, serving as the goal-line back for the Eagles. Ajayi has a long road back from his major knee injury but should be ready for the start of the season. He is not guaranteed anything upon his return. He will try to carve out a big role for the coming season. Ajayi had two straight seasons with 1,000-plus total yards before last year. Ajayi has great moves in space and is tough to bring down once he gets the ball in his hands. He catches the ball pretty well and is a more than capable three-down back. He does tend to try to make the big play too often, but has improved in that area since entering the league.

FANTASY OUTLOOK:   Ajayi was not doing much before the injury last year, which is a concern. He has been just so-so the last two seasons when on the field. Consider him more of a No. 3 back for fantasy teams. Ajayi can get around 900 total yards and five or so scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Here is how I opened my 2018 Jay Ajayi Player Outlook: "Currently trending as a low end RB2 and going in the middle of the fourth round, Jay Ajayi might be the single worst pick you can make at his current ADP. " I'll give myself one pat on the back for that. Ajayi's career is over. He is a terrible running back that currently does not have a team. Why would anyone sign him? He does nothing well. He is a replacement level between the tackles runner. He is not good in space. He is a below average pass catcher. Maybe some team signs him during the season because of injuries and him being a name they remember, but no team wants to put Ajayi on the field on purpose. I expect him to enter August without a team and to never be fantasy relevant again. Do not draft Ajayi even in the deepest of leagues.

Fantasy Spin: Something to keep an eye on as Kerryon Johnson's knee injury/placement on IR has left the Lions' backfield an unstable mess.

Free-agent RB Jay Ajayi (Eagles) is working out for the Arizona Cardinals Monday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Spin: Ajayi has been training and preparing to sign with a team for a few weeks. He's definitely worth stashing in deeper leagues and would be a flex option in the right situation.
