Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden had some nice things to say about quarterback Derek Carr on Thursday. "I love what Derek Carr did, love what he brings to our team and anxious to continue to build around him," Gruden said. "I really think Derek is a heck of a player and I got a lot of respect for what he has done with some tough circumstances." Carr's future with the Raiders is in question with rumors connecting Las Vegas to Tom Brady, who will become a free agent next month. Carr had a career-high 70.4 completion percentage and threw for a career-high 4,054 yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2019. Still, that might've been more of a ceiling for Carr, and the Raiders would love to make a splash in their new home with Brady. If Carr remains the team's QB going into 2020, he'll serve as a low-ceiling QB2.
Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr on Thursday, Feb. 27, drew praise from head coach Jon Gruden. 'Consistent on what I have said. I really think Derek is a heck of a player,' Gruden said. 'And I have a lot of respect for what he has done and with some tough circumstances. So I'm not going answer every media rumor out there -- just can't do it. I'm just going to listen to my Sirius rock 'n roll classic vinyl and keep working. But I love what Derek Carr did, love what he brings to our team and anxious to continue to build around him.'
Fantasy Spin: Carr hit career season highs for passing yards (4,054) and completion percentage (70.4) in 2019, but only threw for 21 TDs. We'll have to see where he winds up for 2020, but if its back with the Raiders, consider him a QB2 for fantasy.
Las Vegas Raiders general manager Mike Mayock left open the possibility that the team will look to upgrade over quarterback Derek Carr this offseason. "Every position gets evaluated every year, and if we can upgrade it, we will," Mayock said. Carr had a career-high 70.4 completion percentage and a career-high 4,054 passing yards, but he underwhelmed with just 21 touchdown passes over a full season. With Tom Brady potentially becoming available on the free-agent market next month, the Raiders could look to make a splash in their first season in Las Vegas and land the future Hall of Famer. Even if they don't and Carr remains the starter for the Black and Silver, he'll be a low-ceiling QB2 in fantasy.
Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr recently posted an photo on Instagram of himself talking with Chicago Bears DL Khalil Mack following a game last season, and the post is part of speculation that Carr could be traded to the Bears this offseason and reunited with Mack.
Fantasy Spin: The Bears have said they expect Mitchell Trubisky to be their 2020 starter, but they also said he could have competition in the QB room, and Carr would certainly provide as much. Stay tuned ...
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr had $2.9 million of his $18.9 million base salary for 2020 guaranteed Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Fantasy Spin: Carr's status with the Raiders is still uncertain, so fantasy players will need to keep an eye on his status during the offseason. He posted decent numbers this past season but should only be a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy league in 2020.
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is tiring of the quarterback rumors surrounding the team -- the latest resulting from a photo taken of New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, a pending free agent, and Raiders owner Mark Davis talking at Jan. 18 UFC fight in Las Vegas. 'C'mon man, when's it going to end?' Carr asked.
Fantasy Spin: Carr, who set career highs in passing yards (4,054) and completion percentage (70.4) in 2019, is entering the third year of a five-year, $125 million contract but his release would save the Raiders $16.5 million against the 2020 salary cap. It's likely he sticks with the Raiders for another season -- the franchise's first in Las Vegas -- but he remains an up-and-down QB2 for fantasy purposes.
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is scheduled to count $21.5 million against the 2020 salary cap, and releasing him would save the Raiders $16.5 million after a $5 million charge for dead money. Previous reports have placed the odds of Carr's return at 70 percent.
Fantasy Spin: The move to Las Vegas could mean keeping Carr for one more chance to prove he can be a franchise quarterback. Starting fresh for a new starter in Jon Gruden's offense in the first season in Sin City isn't the ideal way to put the best foot forward. Carr is an erratic No. 2 quarterback in 2020 fantasy drafts based on potential alone.
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 29 of his 46 passes for 391 yards and a touchdown in a 16-15 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 17. RB DeAndre Washington rushed 17 times for 77 yards and caught eight passes for 55 yards, TE Darren Waller caught six of his 10 targets for 107 yards, and WR Hunter Renfrow caught six of his nine targets for 102 yards and a score.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr completed 29 of 46 passes for 391 yards as the team fell to the Broncos 16-15 in their season finale. The veteran connected with Hunter Renfrow with seven seconds left for their only score of the game, but disappointingly missed the two-point attempt to seal the victory. Carr wrapped up his season with a career-high 70.4% completion percentage and 4,054 passing yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions in the final season playing in Oakland. The 28-year-old provided a consistent high-floor/low-ceiling fantasy season, but didn't offer enough to be a reliable weekly starter. Carr showed improvement in his second season under Jon Gruden, but what the Raiders choose to do at the quarterback position for 2020 remains up in the air.
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr's performance this season was praised by head coach Jon Gruden. 'He's done a lot of good things,' Gruden said 'I know there's a lot of swirling reports out there, but Derek's done a great job. He's done a heck of a job for us.'
Fantasy Spin: Carr has been efficient all year, completing 71.1 percent of his passes. On the flip side, he has yet to record a 300-yard game and has just 20 touchdowns. If he remains with Oakland beyond this season, Carr will likely remain a QB2 for fantasy purposes.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has posted two 20-point fantasy performances over his last three weeks, but will face a tougher test this Sunday versus the Broncos. The Denver defense has surrendered the sixth-fewest passing yards in the league (215.3 YPG), and the seventh-fewest fantasy points to the position this season (14.7 FPPG). They've also limited opposing quarterbacks to just four passing scores and three interceptions over their previous three contests combined. Carr has one multi-TD game since Week 9, so the stars are aligning for a low-scoring game in a difficult road contest. Consider the veteran a low-end QB2 option as the Raiders look to sneak into the playoffs.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr recorded 291 yards and a touchdown on 26-for-30 passing during the win over the Chargers on Sunday. With the Raiders still in the playoff picture, the 28-year-old has now logged at least 262 passing yards in each of his last three games, and though he only has four touchdown tosses during that span, he hasn't thrown an interception, either. He has a favorable matchup in Denver to close out the regular season, with the Broncos Defense giving up a sixth-worst 21.6 fantasy points per outing to opposing quarterbacks over the last month, while also allowing Carr to throw for 259 yards and a score against them during the opening game of the year.
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 26 of his 30 pass attempts for 291 yards and a touchdown and added a three-yard rushing score in a 24-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16.
Fantasy Spin: Carr continues to complete passes at an impressive rate, but he has thrown more than one touchdown just once in his last seven games. He's only a starting option in two-quarterback leagues.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will have his work cut out for him this Sunday versus the Chargers in a tough divisional battle. Last time these two teams met back in Week 10, Carr mustered up just 13 fantasy points versus this defense when they were banged up. Los Angeles has since returned to full health in their secondary and are allowing just over 170 yards through the air over their last four games. Carr is also trending in the wrong direction with only one multi-touchdown game in his last six contests. The loss of running backJosh Jacobs(shoulder) this weekend may force the Raiders to throw more, but the veteran makes for a risky play, even in two-quarterback leagues for championship weekend.
Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl right tackle Trent Brown (pectoral) was placed on Injured Reserve on Wednesday, according to head coach Jon Gruden. Brown has been a huge asset for Oakland's offensive line, mainly in pass protection, in his first year with the Raiders. His loss could prove costly in the team's final two games, starting in Week 16 this Sunday against a fearsome Chargers pass rush. It's a downgrade to quarterback Derek Carr and Oakland's running game. Rookie running back Josh Jacobs (shoulder) will sit out in favor of Deandre Washington and Jalen Richard this weekend.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr led the team to a hot start out of the gate, but stumbled in the second half as the Jaguars went on to a 20-16 comeback victory. Carr connected with Tyrell Williams for a 40-yard score on the first drive of the game, but was held scoreless for the rest of the contest despite entering Jags territory on 10 drives. He finished the afternoon completing 22 of 36 passes for 267 yards in the final home game ever played in Oakland. Carr hasn't produced stellar fantasy numbers all season and will be off the radar in Week 16 versus the Chargers.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will take the field for the final time in front of the hometown Oakland fans this Sunday versus the Jaguars. Emotions will be running high with an electric stadium expected, but Carr shouldn't be trusted for your fantasy playoffs. His matchup is on the favorable side, but the offense funnels through the run game, which makes it difficult for the 28-year-old to receive enough opportunities to be trusted. The Raiders are also 6.5 favorites against the worst-run defense over the last four weeks, so expect the Raiders could run away with this one. The stars are aligning for a low-volume game for Carr, making him a desperation QB2 for Week 15.
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr went 25-of-34 for 253 yards and two touchdowns in Week 14 versus the Tennessee Titans. He also ran for 17 yards on two attempts.
Fantasy Spin: Car is having one of his best statistical seasons - he is one of three quarterbacks completing at least 70 percent of his throws - but his inability to make anything but safe throws is holding the offense back. The team's unwillingness to feature Darren Waller is also baffling, as he is the one true difference-maker in the passing game. Carr offers a safe floor in fantasy, but he'll be little more than a middling QB2 again in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr completed 25 of 34 passes for 263 yards versus the Titans on Sunday, but it wasn't nearly enough to lead the team to victory. He threw for two touchdowns in the first half as the teams went to half time tied 21-21, but failed to find the end zone again resulting in a 42-21 loss. Carr connected with a wide-open Rico Gafford for a 49-yard score but otherwise didn't challenge the Titans Defense downfield often, throwing short to intermediate passes all afternoon. The offense sputtered in the second half, making it clear they missed rookie running back Josh Jacobs. Carr is a risky QB2 option for the final home game in Oakland versus the Jaguars in Week 15.
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is coming off back-to-back underwhelming performances as the Tennessee Titans come to town for a pivotal matchup this weekend. With both teams in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, the Raiders will need Carr to improve on his recent play with Josh Jacobs questionable for this Sunday. The Titans give up the sixth-most passing yards in the league (260.1 YPG), but have only allowed opposing quarterbacks to reach 20+ fantasy points three times through 13 games. Carr has just two of these games to his credit this season, so the stars aren't exactly aligning for a big performance. With a 3:4 TD to INT ratio over his past four games, treat the veteran as a low-end QB2 for Week 14.
