San Francisco 49ers kicker Joey Slye converted his lone 47-yard field goal attempt and an extra point attempt during the team's 17-10 Week 5 loss against the Arizona Cardinals. This offseason, Slye was cut by the Carolina Panthers but just signed with the 49ers due to Robbie Gould being sent to short-term Injured Reserve with a groin injury. With the inconsistency seen in the 49ers' offense, the scoring opportunities could be frequent for Slye after the team returns from their Week 6 Bye.
The San Francisco 49ers placed kicker Robbie Gould (groin) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday and signed Joey Slye to kick in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals, according to a source. Gould strained his groin before the Week 4 loss to the Seattle Seahawks and will now be out for at least three games. The 38-year-old had attempted only four field goals in three games, so he wasn't of much use to fantasy managers. Slye was the Houston Texans kicker for the first three weeks of this season, making four of his five field-goal tries and seven of eight extra points. Fantasy managers should steer clear of San Francisco's kicking situation right now, especially since they're unlikely to have the luxury of kicking many field goals against the undefeated Cardinals this Sunday.
The Houston Texans waived kicker Joey Slye on Thursday. Slye wasn't terrible for Houston through the first three games of the season. The 25-year-old made four of his five field-goal attempts and had missed one of eight extra-point tries to begin the season. The move was made with regular kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn (leg) set to return from Injured Reserve in time for this Sunday's game on the road against the Buffalo Bills. Fairbairn made 87.1 percent of his field goals (27-for-31) and went 37-for-40 on extra points in 16 games for the Texans last year. He was a weekly fantasy option in 2020, but that won't be the case with rookie quarterback Davis Mills under center in a tough road environment this weekend.
Houston Texans kicker Joey Slye has been a solid fantasy option through three weeks, making four of five field goals and seven of eight extra points. Slye will face a tough matchup against a Bills defense that has allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game to placekickers. Still, there's reason to keep rolling with the former Panther, especially if the Texans offense has to scoreboard chase as 16-point underdogs.
Houston Texans kicker Joey Slye was promoted to the active roster again ahead of the team's Week 2 contest against the Browns. He was very impressive in Week 1, connecting on all three field-goal and all four extra-point attempts. All in all, he owns an 80.3 percent field goal rate and 90.7 percent extra point rate through 33 career games. After spending two seasons with the Panthers, the now-25-year-old joined the Texans' practice squad when Ka'imi Fairbairn was placed on injured reserve.
The Houston Texans have promoted kicker Joey Slye to the active roster. Slye was cut by the Panthers recently, but the Texans lost kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn (groin) earlier in the week to the Injured Reserve list with a groin injury. Slye is a career 79.4% kicker, but is unlikely to help managers much with the Texans looking to have one of the worst offenses in the league and unlikely to score many points. For now, Slye can remain on the waiver wire in most formats.
Carolina Panthers kicker Joey Slye has struggled at times during camp and preseason so far, though he can right the ship with a good showing Friday against Pittsburgh. Slye nailed 4 of 5 field-goal attempts in the first preseason contest and 1 of 2 in the second, though he's had some shaky performances, including three missed kicks in 11-on-11 drills during Wednesday's practice. Entering his third season, Slye has been a strong kicker in the 20-39-yard range, though his accuracy from longer distances, 24 of 36 from 40 yards or further, hasn't been nearly as good. The Panthers recently signed kicker Dominik Eberle and traded for Ryan Santoso, as the team is keeping its options open. Kicking for a Panthers team that could have an improved offense, Slye should be on fantasy managers' radars in 2021, though he will have to have a solid showing Friday night to remain the starter for Week 1.
