Player Notes
Dec 13 6:20pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has been on fire recently, recording a touchdown in three of his last four games and topping 100 yards receiving on two occasions. Ekeler also chipped in a 101-yard rushing day last week. Ekeler has proven time and time again that he has the playmaking ability to bust huge gains on limited touches, but he'll be going up against another strong defense this week. Minnesota has had a top-10 rushing defense all season, and last time Ekeler faced a strong defensive front, he was held to 16 yards on nine carries. It's unlikely Ekeler will be able to break a lot of big plays this week like he did in Jacksonville, but hopefully he can still weave his way into the end zone for a score.

Dec 9 2:40am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler stole the show in Jacksonville as he single-handedly routed the Jaguars Defense. Ekeler finished the night with 101 yards rushing on just eight carries and 112 yards receiving on four catches. He's the first player this season to rack up 100+ yards in both disciplines in the same game, and he made highlight reels across the country by gashing through the defense on every opportunity. His money moment came when he caught a pass at his own 14-yard line, two yards behind the line of scrimmage, and didn't stop running until he reached the opposite end zone, completely untouched along the way. Ekeler's playmaking ability is unmatched, even if he isn't officially the starter.

Dec 8 9:53pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler rushed eight times for 101 yards and caught four passes for 112 yards and a touchdown in a 45-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14.

Fantasy Spin: This is the extreme end of Ekeler's upside, but even with Melvin Gordon seeing a majority of the carries, Ekeler's versatility and explosiveness have allowed him to remain a RB2 option.

From TheHuddle

Dec 7 2:30pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has once again proven that he can still be a productive fantasy weapon even when Melvin Gordon is fully healthy and performing, and he should continue some of that production this week against a Jacksonville defense that is extremely susceptible to running backs. Ekeler has touched the ball 34 times in the last three games, and he's racked up 247 yards on those touches, averaging 7.27 yards per touch. He's also scored a pair of touchdowns, and fantasy owners should look for him to be attacking the end zone once again this week. Since Ekeler is officially a backup, there's always the possibility of a dud if the coaching staff decides to push the ball elsewhere, but his recent production more than warrants continued use.

Dec 2 1:50am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was at it again on Sunday as he caught four passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. He also carried the ball nine times for just 16 yards, but it was hard to pin the running issues on him since he was immediately hit when handed the ball multiple times. He clearly didn't make nearly the headway Melvin Gordon did on the ground, but as a receiver, he was phenomenal. An 11-yard catch-and-run that featured him spinning and winding his way through a half-dozen defenders was ultimately called back due to holding, but a beautiful wheel route led to a 31-yard touchdown for him on another drive. Ekeler's abilities are undeniable, and no matter what LA does, he should continue to see plenty of work.

Dec 2 12:53am ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler caught four passes for 51 yards and a touchdown in a Week 13 loss to the Denver Broncos. Ekeler also ran the ball nine times for 16 yards.

Fantasy Spin: Outside of Christian McCaffrey, Ekeler might be the best receiving back in all of football. Sunday's touchdown right before halftime gave him seven receiving scores on the year and 10 total. He doesn't get nearly as many touches as Melvin Gordon, but Ekeler has retained RB2 value by consistently maximizing his opportunities.

Nov 29 3:00pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has been all over the map recently, but his performance last week should give owners hope that the LA coaching staff has figured out a better use for him. Ekeler only touched the ball five times a month ago, but he's topped 12 touches in two of the team's last three games. He's been especially devastating against defenses in the passing game, racking up 108 receiving yards two weeks ago against the Chiefs. With LA facing a Denver defense that can shut down the outside receivers and put up a stout front against the run game, short passes into the hands of a playmaker like Ekeler could be the magic formula to help LA break out of their current funk. Whether they actually give him the chances remains to be seen.

Nov 19 2:20am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was the man to beat on Monday night, but even he couldn't will the team to a victory. Ekeler carried the ball five times for 24 yards and caught eight of 12 passes sent his way, tallying another 108 yards. Unfortunately, the moment that will get the most attention was the game-ending interception Philip Rivers threw Ekeler's direction. There's no question that the pick was purely Rivers' fault, but his performance really overshadowed what should have been a star-studded Sportscenter appearance for Ekeler, a backup running back who happens to be incredibly valuable. Unfortunately, the unpredictability in Ekeler's touches from week to week limits his dependable fantasy value.

Nov 19 12:33am ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler rushed five times for 24 yards in Week 11 against the Kansas City Chiefs while adding eight grabs for a game-high 108 yards on 12 targets.

Fantasy Spin: Ekeler is a stud catching the ball out of the backfield, and he has remained a fantasy must-start option despite the return of Melvin Gordon after his holdout. The Chargers are off until Week 13 after their bye.

From TheHuddle

Nov 16 1:20pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler is pretty much on the backburner now that Melvin Gordon is back to full speed, but he's still lurking in the wings, waiting to take a touch to the house. Ekeler has seen his carries drop precipitously, but as in past years, he's continued to get a few opportunities in the passing game as he rolls out of the backfield. Expect Monday night to be no different, and just like in Oakland, it wouldn't be a shock if he's able to deliver one of those catches to the end zone. He's also facing the most porous run defense in the game, so even if he does only get a few carries, one of those could be huge.

From RotoBaller

Nov 8 1:20am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has seen his usage drop like a rock since Melvin Gordon returned to the team, but he's still an incredibly talented player who can make things happen. On Thursday night, Ekeler was the man who brought LA back into the game when he darted into the end zone on a six-yard pass from Philip Rivers. Ekeler was on a drag route across the middle when he made the easy catch and threw on the afterburners to sneak in for the score before anyone touched him. Ekeler's value will almost entirely hinge on touchdowns since his touches will likely stay under 10 in most games, but in deep leagues, that can still play.

From RotoBaller

Nov 8 12:53am ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler ran six times for 19 yards against the Oakland Raiders on Thursday, Nov. 7. He also caught two passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Spin: It was a mostly quiet evening for Ekeler, who took a backseat to Melvin Gordon on the ground and was unusually quiet as a receiver, too. At least he managed to salvage his value with a late touchdown, which is something he's shown a knack for this season, having scored nine times with at least one in six of 10 games. He should be a solid option in Week 11 against the Chiefs.

From TheHuddle

Nov 7 3:30pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has more than proven that he can be a huge playmaker when the ball's in his hands, but with Melvin Gordon back to his full form and the bevy of offensive weapons that surround Ekeler, getting the ball into his hands will be the real challenge. Since Gordon's return, Ekeler has seen his usage drop precipitously, and there's no reason to think that will change moving forward. The only sign of hope for Ekeler is that he's electric when catching passes out of the backfield, and Oakland happens to struggle against those plays. Unfortunately, betting on a long shot like that is risky at best, and most owners should avoid such a move.

From RotoBaller

Nov 4 2:30am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler got to show off a few of his moves this week. Ekeler got to carry the ball 12 times, the most carries he's had in over a month, and he racked up a flashy 70 yards with the opportunities. He even included a 16-yard run that featured him side-stepping a tackler like a matador without ever slowing down. Ekeler was held out of the end zone for the first time in three weeks, but Sunday was a nice reminder of how dangerous a player Ekeler can be when given a chance. Hopefully, he'll continue to get touches moving forward.

From RotoBaller

Nov 3 10:43pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler rushed 12 times for 70 yards and caught all four of his targets for 23 yards in a 26-11 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week .

Fantasy Spin: It was Ekeler's first extensive action in the run game since Melvin Gordon returned, so fantasy owners shouldn't expect this type of usage going forward. Relying almost entirely on his production as a receiver, Ekeler has been reduced to a risky flex option in PPR formats.

From TheHuddle

Nov 1 7:30pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has really taken a backseat with the return of Melvin Gordon to the backfield. He has eight rushes for 10 yards the last two weeks, but he has also caught nine balls for 137 yards and two touchdowns in that span. The Green Bay Packers are a midrange matchup, but they haven't allowed backs too much through the air. Running backs are averaging fewer than four grabs for 28 yards in the last five games with one total score through the air. Ekeler will test that as a good RB2 in point-per-reception formats, but he falls to flex status otherwise.

From RotoBaller

Oct 28 12:00pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was able to catch a touchdown pass in the victory over the Chicago Bears, saving his fantasy performance. Ekeler struggled in the game, only recording a total of 22 yards, with 19 of those coming from three receptions. Ekeler has continued to be marginalized since the return of Melvin Gordon, who immediately took the reigns of the backfield since his return. Going into Week 9, Ekeler could struggle to have an effective fantasy performance. While the Packers have given up an average of 21.6 points to running backs this season, they have been effective at stopping receiving yards and touchdowns, which is primarily the role of Ekeler in the Chargers offense.

From RotoBaller

Oct 27 4:33pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler rushed three times for just three yards in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears and he added two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Spin: Ekeler didn't have a lot of touches, totaling five to just 10 for Melvin Gordon. The yards were hard to come by for both against a tough Bears defense. He remains more of a RB3 or flex fantasy option heading into Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers at home.

From TheHuddle

Oct 27 10:20am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler should be considered as a flex option for his matchup against the Chicago Bears. Ekeler has seen a reduction in carries since Melvin Gordon returned to the team, but he still has been heavily involved in the passing game. The Chicago Bears have given up an average of 28.9 points to the position this season, with the majority of that coming from the past two weeks. The Bears have allowed 348 receiving yards to running backs, which is the sixth-highest total in the league. With the work in the passing game and some rushing work mixed in, Ekeler should be considered an RB3, making him perfect for flex consideration.

From RotoBaller

Oct 22 4:05pm ET

Chargers' RB Austin Ekeler scored 25.50 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 7 loss in Tennessee. Ekeler ran for 7 yards and caught seven passes for 118 yards with one touchdown. It's the 3rd time this season Ekeler scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.
