Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver Hakeem Butler(finger) was placed on Injured Reserve Sunday afternoon. The rookie receiver will be ineligible to return this season, which ends his rookie campaign. Even if Butler would have remained eligible to play this season, the likelihood of him making an impact was very slim. The fourth-round selection will have a better chance next year with aging vets Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Crabtree more than likely out of Arizona. Butler's injury will give fellow rookies Keesean Johnson and Andy Isabella a better shot at contributing in 2019. Johnson is the more polished wideout right now and is worth a late-round flier.

Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver Hakeem Butler (hand) is dealing with an avulsion fracture in his hand and is now a candidate for Injured Reserve, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Butler, a fourth-round pick, could miss the entire season. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury confirmed that Butler will miss the remainder of the preseason, but it's too soon to tell if he'll end up on IR. It's a tough blow for Butler, but it's good news for fellow rookie wideouts Andy Isabella and Keesean Johnson, as they both have a greater chance of carving out roles behind Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk now.

May 2 1:20pm ET

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Hakeem Butler, a fourth-round pick in the draft at No. 103 overall, sits at 6-foot-5 and 227 pounds and fits the team's offense perfectly. Butler can work the edges and has good speed and should be able to win one-on-one matchups. He could be the ideal complement to Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk and will push Chad Williams on the depth chart. Keesean Johnson, the No. 174 overall pick in the sixth round, can play both the slot and outside and could also be competing for the third spot with Williams and Butler.
