San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis saw zero targets in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. In a 41-17 blowout, Pettis observed eight other Niners receive looks in the passing game ahead of him. He did manage to toss a 16-yard pass on a gadget play. Pettis played more on Sunday compared to Week 1, but has just one catch for seven yards through two games after a promising finish to his rookie season. With the ascendance of wideout Deebo Samuel, Pettis has yet to emerge and will be a popular drop heading into waivers.

Sep 13 1:00pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis (groin) said his "body's back to normal" and that he expects to see more action in Week 2 than the two snaps he played in the season opener against the Buccaneers. Not only has Pettis been limited by an injury to start the year, but San Fran's coaching staff was down on him this summer. It's resulted in Pettis being a non-factor out of the gates, although there's still plenty of time for that to change. He should eventually be a staple in three-wide sets alongside Marquise Goodwin, but for now fantasy owners need to see it to believe it. Leave Pettis on your bench until the coaching staff gives him more of a vote of confidence in playing time. The Niners are on the road against the Bengals this Sunday.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis played just two snaps in Week 1 but should have a larger role Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Pettis missed practice last week from a lingering groin issue, but head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed his lack of action wasnt explicitly due to the injury. Coupled with the constant demand during preseason for Pettis to step up, the signs are ominous. Shanahan suggests Pettis will play more in Cincinnati, splitting time with rookie Deebo Samuel who led the team in snaps last week. Ideally, Pettis should be on fantasy benches but if necessary, hes a shaky WR4.

Sep 9 1:30pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis played just two snaps in Week 1s victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Pettis was a notable bust on Sunday (one catch, seven yards) but his underlying usage is disastrous. The second-year pro dealt with a groin injury in practice but head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed he was not limited by injury in his postgame comments. Pettis was also the subject of repeated challenges by his coaches during preseason, and Week 1s results indicate it wasnt all coach-speak. After just one game, the talented wideout isnt yet droppable but hell be impossible to start in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sep 9 3:33am ET

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis (calf) caught his only target for seven yards in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Spin: It's a bad day for a player many expected to be the team's top wide receiver, but head coach Kyle Shanahan noted afterward that Pettis entered the game as a backup in part because he was limited in practice Thursday due to a calf injury. Shanahan also told the media he hopes Pettis "continues to earn more time out there," further driving home a point he was trying to make to Pettis during the preseason. Pettis is a desperate WR3 play at best next week versus the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sep 8 8:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis caught just one pass for seven yards in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was his only target. With the Niners passing attack stuck in neutral, Pettis was a nonfactor on Sunday, surely upsetting many of his fantasy investors. The team deployed all five active receivers, which isnt a positive development for Pettis or any single receiver. Even with better offensive days ahead, Pettis should be downgraded to a WR4 heading into Week 2.

Sep 6 6:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis (groin) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 6, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.

Fantasy Spin: Pettis had a quiet training camp and preseason but is expected to be one of the starting receivers for the 49ers in Week 1. He has a chance to be a low-end No. 3 receiver or a flex option in some leagues but is not a must-start player in fantasy leagues.

Sep 6 12:00am ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis (groin) was upgraded to full in Thursdays practice. The second-year pro had been limited throughout the week but he looks ready to go in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With injuries to Trent Taylor (foot) and Jalen Hurd (back), the Niners formerly-deep receiving corps will likely feature Pettis, Marquise Goodwin and rookie Deebo Samuel. While Pettis is the de facto No. 1 receiver, hell also compete with target monster tight end George Kittle and a versatile backfield. Facing one of the worst pass defenses last year, Pettis is an upside WR3 in a highly favorable matchup.

San Francisco 49ers CB Jimmie Ward (hand) didn't practice Thursday, Sept. 5. DE Nick Bosa (ankle), C Weston Richburg (knee), CB Jason Verrett (ankle) and CB K'Waun Williams (knee) were all limited. DE Dee Ford (knee) was a full participant.

From TheHuddle

Sep 5 7:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis (groin) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 5.

Fantasy Spin: Pettis is viewed as the 49ers' No. 1 receiver so seeing him up to full speed ahead of gameday is a promising sign. He can be started this week as a WR3 or a FLEX option.

From TheHuddle

Sep 4 10:43pm ET

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis is listed as a No. 1 receiver on the team's unofficial depth chart heading into Week 1, starting opposite WR Marquise Goodwin.

Fantasy Spin: Pettis is also listed as the top punt returner, too. Head coach Kyle Shanahan challenged him during the preseason, looking for more consistency. Apparently the head coach is satisfied with the effort of Pettis. Look for Pettis to serve as a decent low-end WR4 or flex fantasy option if he can hang onto his starting job.

From TheHuddle

Sep 4 8:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis (groin) was limited in practice on Wednesday. All signs point to Pettis suiting up as the team's No. 1 receiver for Week 1 on the road against the Buccaneers. The coaching staff was surprisingly down on Pettis in training camp and the preseason, but he could wind up being a value as a WR4 with upside, especially in PPR leagues. In an excellent matchup against the Bucs, Pettis could turn some heads in the regular season opener after falling down many draft boards.

From RotoBaller

Sep 4 8:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis (groin) was a limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Fantasy Spin: Pettis should have a good chance to play in Week 1 as long as he does not suffer a setback. He will be one of the starting receivers for the 49ers and could see a decent amount of targets. Fantasy players could consider him a flex option this week.

From TheHuddle

Sep 3 7:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis is listed as the top receiver based off an unofficial team document. Despite swirling reports of his underperformance and lack of motivation during camp, the designation shouldnt be surprising. Pettis emerged for 359 yards and four touchdowns in the final five games of 2018 and is a polished route runner. The Niners visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1, who ranked third worst in DVOA against the pass last year. While hell battle with streaky receiver Marquise Goodwin and rookie Deebo Samuel for looks, hes the clear-cut second option behind tight end George Kittle. With a total score projected around 50, Pettis is a solid WR2 heading into the season.

Aug 26 10:43pm ET

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis (groin) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 26, because of a groin injury. He said it is a minor injury.

From TheHuddle

Aug 26 6:30pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis (groin) said he's dealing with a minor groin injury. Pettis also said that he needs to play with more urgency and "run routes deliberately with more purpose." Despite being the top receiver on the depth chart, San Fran's coaching staff continues to criticize Pettis' play this preseason, which shouldn't give fantasy owners a vote of confidence in drafts. Still, the 23-year-old has the most upside of the Niners pass-catchers (especially in PPR leagues) and is a firm WR3 target in what could be a more potent offense with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo back. Pettis had 27 catches for 467 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games in his rookie season.

From RotoBaller

Aug 26 12:23am ET

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis played into the fourth quarter of the preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Aug. 24, because he needs to show more consistent effort, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'He's still trying to earn a role on this team and still is trying to show what he's capable of doing,' Shanahan said.

Fantasy Spin: This isn't the first time Pettis has been called out by his head coach this offseason. It would still be a surprise if Pettis wasn't a starter to open the year, but after the 49ers added Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd in the draft, there is no guarantee that Pettis will be the top receiver in the passing attack. He's best viewed as a WR4.

From TheHuddle

Aug 25 4:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that wide receiver Dante Pettis was kept in the preseason game on Saturday against the Chiefs late into the game because the team wants to see him "earn a role on the team." It's been assumed all along that Pettis would be the No. 1 receiver across from Marquise Goodwin this year, but apparently San Fran's coaching staff hasn't been very impressed with Pettis so far. He's still the most likely option to be fantasy relevant in an inexperienced receiving corps, but we'd label Pettis as more of a risky WR3 now. He's much more attractive in PPR leagues.

From RotoBaller

Aug 25 12:10am ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis grabbed three balls on five targets for 36 yards Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Following two quiet games, Pettis was finally in the mix after he indicated he was playing explosive and consistent earlier this week. Despite being pushed by rookies Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd (back), Pettis appears a lock to start heading into Week 1. After emerging as the second option to tight end George Kittle last season, Pettis is shaping up as a solid backend WR2.

From RotoBaller

Aug 23 2:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis believes hes finally playing explosive and consistent. Entering training camp as a presumed starter, Pettis has been pushed by rookies Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd who have both turned heads. Meanwhile, Pettis has apparently lacked assertiveness. The 2018 second-round pick emerged at the end of last year, compiling 359 yards and four touchdowns in his final five games and becoming the clear second option behind tight end George Kittle. However, with more aerial weapons this season, Pettis needs to execute on his words to retain playing time. Still running with the starters, a reinvigorated Pettis seems like a safe backend WR2.
