New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) will return to practice this week with an eye on returning for Week 8. If he can't make it back this week, he should be back after the Week 9 bye week.

Fantasy Spin: Brees would return for a midrange matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. With the bye week coming, it's hard to envision them rushing him out there. Even if he's fit to play, he'll have considerable rust to kick off and might not be worth the QB1 start. Teddy Bridgewater has been the 14th-ranked quarterback in fantasy the last three weeks and has been a solid backup in fantasy. He would lose roster value when Brees returns.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) and WR Tre'Quan Smith (ankle) didn't practice Thursday, Oct. 17. DE Trey Hendrickson (neck) was limited.

From TheHuddle

Oct 17 3:13pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) said he has started working with a regular NFL football as part of his rehab. Brees said he will have to wear a brace on his thumb when he returns to the lineup.

Fantasy Spin: Brees appears to be making good progress but is still not ready to practice at this time. Teddy Bridgewater has been a solid starter for the Saints while Brees has been sidelined but probably should only be an option in two-quarterback fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Oct 17 11:50am ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (thumb) said that he's back to working with a regulation-sized football in his rehab. "I have a really kind of disciplined plan for what I need to do for strength and flexibility and then my throwing and all that stuff. So really starting to get back into it, doing football stuff, and just trying to get back as quick as I can," Brees said. When he returns to action, Brees said he'll be wearing a splint on his thumb "because it does take a while for that ligament to actually heal." The team was initially targeting a potential Week 8 return for Brees, but it's unknown if he'll be able to meet that timetable. Continue to stash the future Hall of Famer in all leagues.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) wants to return prior to the team's Week 9 bye, according to Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson, who writes that Brees has been 'living in the training room' in hopes of an early return. The team, however, appears to be targeting Week 10 for Brees' return.

Fantasy Spin: Unless things go completely off the rails over the next two weeks it's hard to imagine the Saints bypassing an extra two weeks of recovery time and holding Brees out until after the Week 9 bye. Continue stashing the veteran on your bench.

From TheHuddle

Oct 9 10:03pm ET

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) said Wednesday, Oct. 9 in a radio interview that he hopes to throw an NFL ball 'sooner rather than later,' and his rehab is going as planned. 'From a rehab perspective, we are fast-tracking this thing as fast as we can,' Brees said.

Fantasy Spin: Brees showed himself doing light throwing drills on his Instagram account, so he is making nice progress. His official rehab called for a six-week rehab, and it appears he is right on track, which would mean a return in the next couple of weeks. Fantasy owners need to remain patient, as it's coming soon.

From TheHuddle

Oct 9 8:30pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (thumb) said on Wednesday that his rehab for a surgically repaired right thumb is going as planned and he hopes to be throwing a football "sooner rather than later." Brees is at least several weeks away from a return, but his owners will be happy to know he's on the right track. Teddy Bridgewater will continue to be a mediocre QB2 in his absence, although the Saints opened things up a bit in the passing game last week against the Buccaneers. Keep Brees stashed everywhere. Luckily, receiver Michael Thomas continues to dominate even with Brees sidelined.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) and WR Tre'Quan Smith (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 9. DE Trey Hendrickson (neck) was limited during practice.

From TheHuddle

Oct 6 12:50pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees posted a video of himself tossing a football on Saturday evening. Brees remains inactive for the Saints Week 5 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It should also be noted that the ball Brees was throwing in the video seemed to be of the Nerf variety, so he still has a ways to go in his recovery. However, the fact that he is able to grip and throw any kind of football just a couple weeks post-surgery is an encouraging sign. The next step will be for Brees to return to practice. Friendly reminder to check your league's waiver wire and make sure Brees isn't out there for the taking.

From RotoBaller

From TheHuddle

Oct 5 7:03pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) shared a video to Instragram Saturday, Oct. 5, of him participating in some light throwing drills.

Fantasy Spin: Brees' thumb appeared to be heavily bandaged and he wasn't taking any sort of contact but it's a positive step toward a potential return to the field. He seems to be on track, if not ahead of schedule, for his initial six-week timetable for recovery.
