2022 RTSports Outlook

The Panthers hope to have found their answer at quarterback, taking Corral in the third round of this year's draft. He should immediately compete for the starting job with Sam Darnold. Corral is a top competitor. He lacks size, but has a strong arm and quick release. He did very well on RPO's in college and can make plays with his legs. He will try to force some throws and his lack of size gives him some durability concerns in the NFL.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: We aren't sure Corral opens the season as the starter but it might be his job before long. Darnold just doesn't show much. Corral will have some fantasy value in a starting role. He can make some plays with his legs and his strong arm could be a big asset in the Panthers passing game. He might be worth a late-round grab in deeper formats.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Matt Corral's fantasy ranking is unclear. Carolina hasn't had an answer at quarterback since Cam Newton in 2017, but is Corral, the guy? He had an impressive career at Ole Miss but was far from perfect. Ole Miss ran an offensive scheme that consisted of RPOs and short passes, in which Corral excelled. The issue is, when the 23-year-old gets his chance to play in the NFL, he will need to do way more than the simple offense he ran in college. He should not see the field until he matures and fully grasps the offense that head coach Matt Rhule is trying to run. Carolina's issue is Sam Darnold, their current starting quarterback, who was a disaster in his first season with the team. He underperformed and missed four games due to injury. Even his teammates voiced their concerns about their current starter's play. There is a good chance Corral will be forced to step in sometime during the season and will likely not be ready for it. The 94th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft is mainly a dynasty stash and is an option in deep-league formats. Even if Darnold is out, it might not be worth adding Corral off the waiver wire.

The Carolina Panthers agreed to terms with third-round quarterback Matt Corral on his four-year rookie contract on Monday, according to a source. The former Ole Miss quarterback was one of the few remaining unsigned picks league-wide, but he'll be ready to report to training camp on Monday afternoon now. After the Panthers traded for Baker Mayfield, Corral will enter camp as the No. 3 signal-caller behind Mayfield and Sam Darnold, and there's a good chance he'll sit on the sidelines and learn his entire rookie season in 2022. As such, the 23-year-old will only be an option in dynasty/keeper drafts this fall.

The Carolina Panthers drafted quarterback Matt Corral in the third round out of Ole Miss this year with plans to develop him slowly, and bringing Baker Mayfield in decreases Corral's chances of seeing the field in his rookie year in 2022. Corral will likely be the third quarterback between Mayfield and Sam Darnold. The Panthers called Corral to inform him of the trade and ensured him that he's still the future of the position, according to a league source. He'll have a year to learn under Mayfield and Darnold, and the Panthers are still excited about his future. It's probably for the best, as offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo is installing a complex system, one that Corral admitted is challenging to learn. Corral is only worth drafting in dynasty/keeper leagues this year.

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Matt Corral is unlikely to start in Week 1, as ESPN.com's David Newton gives him a 5% chance to start the season opener. The plan is to have a veteran, whether it be Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield or someone else, start the year and keep Corral ready to take over if necessary. Corral is having to learn a completely different offensive language, and offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said he'll be tough on Corral so he'll be ready when it's his time. With that said, there's a very good chance the 23-year-old won't sit all year, as Darnold hasn't proven much in four NFL seasons. Corral could get his chance early if Darnold struggles out of the gates, but with Carolina not having much receiving depth behind DJ Moore and Robby Anderson, it's hard to envision Corral being anything more than a low-end QB2 right away.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Corral has been struggling in the early part of minicamp. The biggest concern is that Corral is having issues before the snap. Things such as getting the play called, identifying the defense, making checks. That being said, Sam Darnold is likely to open the season as the starting quarterback. The Panthers did mention that Corral looks solid after the ball is snapped. Now, the organization just needs to work with Corral on making pre-snap adjustments. Possibly, Corral makes the right changes and takes the No. 1 spot before the regular season begins. Although, it seems likely that the Panthers will start Darnold while Corral learns behind him.

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Matt Corral is back with the team this week for voluntary organized team activities after missing some time last week due to a tragedy in the family. The 23-year-old third-round pick will get back to learning Carolina's offense while competing to win the starting job from incumbent Sam Darnold this summer. Darnold is expected to enter Week 1 as the starter, unless the team trades for Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield, but he'll have a short leash, so Corral could certainly see some starts in his rookie season. However, he should be ignored in single-year fantasy formats for now.

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Matt Corral left the team on Wednesday due to a tragedy in the family, according to head coach Matt Rhule. Rhule told Corral to take all the time he needed away from organized team activities. The Panthers have liked what they've seen early on from Corral during offseason workouts. The 23-year-old will lose some valuable developmental work while away from the team, but he's still expected to compete with incumbent Sam Darnold for the starting job under center in training camp this summer. The third-rounder will spend much of his offseason work focusing on his ability to process defensive looks while calling plays.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Corral stated the chip on his shoulder "got even bigger" after being overlooked by multiple teams during the NFL Draft. While some projections had him going as early as the first round, his name was never called. Instead, the 23-year-old was selected in the third round by Carolina, going 94th overall. Corral had a successful career at Ole Miss, and he finished his final season at the collegiate level by throwing 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five picks. Still, Sam Darnold remains the starting quarterback, with the team also not ruling out the possibility of adding a veteran signal-caller. However, Corral may eventually get some snaps during the 2022-23 campaign, although he shouldn't do much for fantasy managers in redraft formats.

The Carolina Panthers signed first-round offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu to a four-year, fully guaranteed deal worth $27.568 million on Tuesday, according to a source. The deal includes a signing bonus of $17.229 million and a fifth-year option. The sixth overall pick is expected to be the team's starting left tackle in his rookie season, but it will be interesting to see if his pass-blocking skills can hold up at the next level for a Panthers team that could have Sam Darnold and rookie Matt Corral competing at the quarterback position. The 21-year-old Ekwonu has good range as a tackle and has a knack for being able to move defenders in the running game. His presence should be good news for running back Christian McCaffrey, if he can stay healthy.

The Carolina Panthers selected Mississippi quarterback Matt Corral with the 94th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He will compete with Sam Darnold for the team's starting quarterback gig in 2022. Carolina traded back into the third round to select Mississippi product. The 23-year-old was one in a high-octane offense, throwing 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions while rushing for 614 yards and 11 scores over 13 games in Mississippi. He delivered accurate throws while throwing exceptionally well deep ball. Despite selecting Corral, it remains to be seen if the Panthers make a move for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. Carolina reportedly was in talks with Cleveland about acquiring Mayfield, and a deal could be done this weekend. With the selection of Corral, it remains to be seen.

One NFL offensive coordinator is extremely skeptical about Mississippi quarterback Matt Corral. "He's kind of a mess. His offense was a true college offense, he pushes the ball, he plays reckless with his body, he won't hold up playing the way he did in college. And there are character concerns. I'm not sure you want him leading your program, his sorts of issues aren't the kind solved by giving a kid millions of dollars," the anonymous offensive coordinator said. Corral's strong arm and quick release has him compared to the Jets' Zach Wilson, but he's also much more raw and inconsistent. There have been questions about his maturity, but Corral says he's past that and is ready to be a professional. There's bust potential here, but Corral could still come off the board in the first round on Thursday.

The Atlanta Falcons are meeting with Mississippi quarterback Matt Corral on Wednesday, according to a source. The Falcons are also visiting with Virginia tight end Jelani Woods on Wednesday. Wednesday is the last day for top-30 visits before next week's NFL draft, and Corral also visited with the New Orleans Saints this week. Corral has also visited with the Philadelphia Eagles. Some draft pundits have him as the top-ranked signal-caller in this year's class, and Corral had the nation's 17th-most passing yards (3,349) last year while completing 68 percent of his passes. He has an exciting blend of elite arm strength and mobility at the QB position, but it remains to be seen if he'll get an opportunity to start in the NFL in his rookie season. The Falcons traded Matt Ryan this offseason but signed Marcus Mariota.

The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to host Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral and Nevada quarterback Carson Strong on Thursday. While Pittsburgh is taking a closer look at quarterbacks, they have options. After signing Mitchell Trubisky to a two-year deal, they do not necessarily need someone who can take the reins right away. It would not at all be surprising if Pittsburgh landed a quarterback on Day 1 or Day 2 of the draft, but they have glaring holes with their offensive line and run defense that need to be addressed with urgency. Corral is certainly seen as having a stronger quarterback pedigree than Strong, but if the team addresses other needs early, then Strong could be a fit as a Day 2 pick for the Steelers.

Mississippi quarterback Matt Corral is scheduled to visit with the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons next week, according to a source. Corral didn't throw at the NFL combine in February due to a right ankle injury, but he threw well at his school's Pro Day at the end of March. The 23-year-old seems to be projected as the No. 3 quarterback off the board in this month's draft behind Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett and Liberty's Malik Willis. With several teams still desperate for a QB, Corral could come off the board in the first round. He threw for 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns and only five interceptions in 13 games in his senior year at Ole Miss.

Mississippi quarterback Matt Corral showed off his right arm and a healthy right ankle at his school's Pro Day on Wednesday. At least four head coaches, the Steelers' Mike Tomlin, the Falcons' Arthur Smith, the Panthers' Matt Rhule and the Cowboys' Mike McCarthy, were on hand to watch him throw. Corral is projected as a potential first-round selection in next month's draft. The workout showcased his mobility while he made around 67 passes, of which only a handful were errant. The 23-year-old didn't throw or workout at the combine in February while recovering from a right ankle injury that he suffered in the Sugar Bowl. Corral completed 67.9% of his passes for 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2021 as a junior.
