Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) is making good progress in his recovery and is expected to return to practice after the team's Week 7 bye, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Kyle Allen has won each of the last four games with Newton hurt, so it is not known if Newton will regain his starting job when he is healthy. Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation over the next few weeks to see if Allen or Newton will be the starting quarterback.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) will not travel with the team to London to play in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Spin: It would make little sense for Newton to come back one game before the team's bye, especially when backup Kyle Allen has led the Panthers to three wins in his absence. While all indications are that Newton remains without a timetable, it's somewhat likely Week 8 is the target date. Owners should find the room to stash him on their roster if possible, as Newton has said publicly he will not return until he is completely healthy.

From TheHuddle

Oct 8 12:03pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) was at practice Tuesday, Oct. 8, without a walking boot.

Fantasy Spin: He's still a week or two away. Kyle Allen has fizzled out the last couple of weeks and isn't a strong filler against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (foot) confirmed that he's dealing with a mild Lisfranc injury and said he's doing everything in his power to come back. He could be out for a week or up to six weeks, and he wants to be 100 percent healthy when he returns. In other words, don't expect Newton back anytime soon. If you own him, keep him stashed for now. Hopefully you already had a solid backup or were able to pick one up or trade for one. Kyle Allen performed admirably in Newton's absence in Week 3, but he was also facing a weak Cardinals Defense. He has another decent matchup in Houston's secondary this Sunday and is a midrange QB2 in two-QB leagues.

Sep 28 12:53am ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) indicated in a video blog released Friday, Sept. 27, that he concealed the severity of the foot sprain he suffered in the third preseason from the Panthers coaching staff. He added that he has decided to 'take time away from the game,' and gave out multiple lengths for a possible return that ranged from one week to six.

Fantasy Spin: We already knew Newton was out indefinitely, and though his YouTube video filled in some gaps it offered little of substance in terms of figuring out when he'll be back. Based on his comments, it does appear that Newton is on board with returning to full health and not rushing his recovery, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Kyle Allen under center for much of the first half of the season and perhaps beyond. Minus a firm diagnosis you should try to hold onto Newton in all leagues, while Allen could potentially offer some short-term value, though it'll be interesting to see how he does against a team not named the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton and OG Trai Turner (ankle) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 4 against the Houston Texans. DT Kawann Short (shoulder) did not participate for a third straight day, while CB Donte Jackson (groin) was unable to practice for a second straight day Friday, Sept. 27; both players are listed as questionable. DE/LB Marquis Haynes (elbow), DE/LB Bruce Irvin (hamstring) practiced in full Friday and are also listed as questionable. TE Greg Olsen (back), LB Shaq Thompson (knee), S Rashaan Gaulden (groin) and DT Gerald McCoy (knee) fully participated in practice Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (foot) is out indefinitely with a Lisfranc injury, according to sources. The good news is that Newton isn't expected to need surgery for now, but it's an injury that will require at least multiple weeks to heal. At this point, it's unlikely that Newton would return before the team's Week 7 bye. Backup Kyle Allen played really well in the Week 3 win over the Cardinals, but he'll face much better defenses eventually. He gets another nice matchup in the Texans in Week 4, but Allen is still a low-end QB2 in deep two-QB leagues. Newton should remain stashed on your benches for now.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) is out indefinitely with a Lisfranc injury in his foot.

Fantasy Spin: There was no timeline given, but the team has an Oct. 20 bye week, which could be a point of emphasis in his rehab. Either way, Newton is likely out multiple weeks. Kyle Allen looked great in Week 3. He'll have a decent matchup against the Houston Texans this week and might be worth streaming if you're covering an injury or bye week.

From TheHuddle

Sep 23 6:30pm ET

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is already ruling out quarterback Cam Newton (foot) for Week 4 against the Texans. Backup Kyle Allen will make a second straight start versus Houston. "What Cam needs right now is time and rest for his foot," Rivera said in a statement. "We want him at 100 percent when he's ready, so there's no exact timetable for his return. At this point, we're going to go forward with Kyle (Allen) as our starter." Allen went 19-for-26 for 262 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 3 win over the Cardinals. In a solid matchup with Houston in Week 4, Allen will still be nothing more than a low-end QB2, but he's led the offense more consistently than Newton did in the first two weeks.
