2019 RTSports Outlook

Mixon had a breakout sophomore season, finishing 10th overall in fantasy running back scoring despite missing two games because of injury. He had four 100-yard games and seven games with 100-plus total yards. Mixon had his first 1,000-yard rushing season and averaged an impressive 4.9 yards per carry. He will continue to be a huge part of this offense going forward. Mixon is a big-play back that can get to the next level in a hurry and has the size to carry the load for three downs. He is a good pass catcher out of the backfield and improving inside runner. He has failed to play a full season each of his first two years in the league, which is a concern.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mixon is a legit No. 1 fantasy back. He had a big year on a bad offensive team last year, so don't be surprised if his numbers improve some this season. Mixon can take his game to another level. He can get around 1,600 total yards, double-digit scores and 60-plus receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon is primed for an excellent 2019 season. He was great in his sophomore season of 2018, putting up 1168 rushing yards on 237 attempts and eight touchdowns despite not much talent around him. He added 43 catches for 296 more yards and another touchdown. With a new coaching staff and hopefully an improving team around him, Mixon should be able to put up an even better third NFL season. He proved his talent last season, and an improved situation could lead to a legitimate breakout season. He's one of the best assets in dynasty because of his age, but he should also be among the top running backs chosen in redraft leagues. He's a true three-down talent in a league with more and more running back committees.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon (rest) did not play on Thursday against the New York Giants. While Mixon sat, it opened the door for others to get some meaningful reps, notably potential third-string back Rodney Anderson, who ran for just seven yards on eight carries as well as Giovani Bernard, who had four yards on three carries. With rookie Trayveon Williams (foot) out for an undetermined amount of time, it wouldn't be a surprise if Mixon doesn't suit up for the team's final preseason encounter against the Colts in order to further evaluate the quality of the running backs on the roster.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon will begin his third year in the league when the team takes on the Seattle Seahawks, but it will be his first season with new head coach Zac Taylor. Taylor spent a couple of seasons serving under current Rams head coach Sean McVay, during which time the Rams skyrocketed to first in the league in scoring in Taylors first season as an assistant, which was also the same season where Todd Gurley led the league in yards from scrimmage. With Mixon finishing with 1,168 yards and eight touchdowns in 2018, he could be poised for a breakout season under a new regime.

Cincinnati Bengals RBs Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard will not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 10.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon will be the main running back for the Bengals and will receive plenty of touches each game. He can be considered a No. 2 running back in all leagues. Bernard should have a role in the passing game and could be a flex option in point-per-reception leagues.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon is looking forward to getting the 2019 season rolling and is as equally excited about playing under first-year head coach Zac Taylor. Just the stuff that coach does. Putting the back in the position to win one-on-one battles, remarked Mixon. While the third-year back still has his fair share of skeptics, he appears eager to get the season off the ground. During Taylors run as an offensive assistant in Los Angeles, he was partially responsible for overseeing Todd Gurleys success, with Gurley rushing for 2,556 yards and 30 touchdowns over two seasons. Though he may not be a top-five back on paper, he could be one of the most efficient runners in the league this season, as long as he can remain healthy and despite having one of the worst offensive lines in the league.

Jul 21 3:03pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon is expected to have a breakout season is new coach Zac Taylor's outside-zone running scheme, in the opinion of Evan McPhillips of Pro Football Focus.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon shook a ho-hum rookie season to finish as fantasy's ninth-ranked running back in 2018. Look for him to cement himself as an elite back this season, so value him as mid-level RB1 with upside in drafts.

From TheHuddle

Jul 17 6:00am ET

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon will look to improve after a solid 2018 season. After accruing just 626 yards on the ground during his rookie campaign, Mixon eclipsed the millennium mark last season to finish with 1,168 yards to go along with nine total trips to the end zone. Though it has been argued that he isn't a top-five back, he will begin his first season under the tutelage of new head coach Zac Taylor, who served as an assistant under Sean McVay. Taylor, who will mirror some parts of the Rams' playbook initially, will utilize the same packages that helped running back Todd Gurley become a fantasy success. As a result, Mixon has a better chance than most to have a dominant season despite being behind a weaker offensive line, and as long as he can remain healthy.

Jun 21 9:43pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard has spent time with the first-team offense during spring practices, and head coach Zac Taylor said he hopes to spread out carries more this year to keep RB Joe Mixon fresh for late in the season.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon emerged as workhorse for the Bengals offense last year, leading the AFC in rushing Even if the new coaching staff dials back Mixon's touches a bit, it is still hard to see Bernard being anything more than a handcuff for Mixon owners.

Apr 7 11:33pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon finished second in the NFL with 23 runs of 15 or more yards in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon finished fourth in the NFL in rushing, adding 43 catches and finishing with nine total touchdowns. He should remain the centerpiece of the Cincinnati backfield and RB1 candidate in 2019.

From TheHuddle

Mar 26 12:33pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon will need to be kept fresh and healthy for later in the season, and that likely will entail some early-season rest and platoon work, new head coach Zac Taylor said Tuesday, March 25, at the NFL owners' meetings. Taylor's experience on the Los Angeles Rams' staff last season and seeing lead back Todd Gurley wear down late could be instructive for Taylor's handling of Mixon, according to one NFL beat reporter.

Fantasy Spin: Things were the opposite last season for Mixon, who missed two games early with a knee issue and then finished with some of his higher touch-count games late in the year. It sounds like, though, Gio Bernard and second-year back Mark Walton, provided off-field issues don't get in the way, could be spelling Mixon thoughout the season, casting some doubt on his early projection as a solid RB1.

From TheHuddle

Feb 25 9:53pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon said he wants to be in the best shape of his career because he believes he can handle 400 carries in 2019 if needed. 'I'm trying to be in the best shape to be able to handle that load because it's not easy. I know I could do it,' said Mixon. 'You always have to expect it. Even if it doesn't happen, you have to always expect it. And I always try to do whatever I can to maximize my ability. I feel like with what I can do, I should be able to do that easily.'

Fantasy Spin: Mixon rushed for 1,168 yards and eight touchdowns this past season even though he missed two games. He should continue to be a focal point on offense next season and can be at least a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.
