Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will try and get his season going against the Colts in Week 2. Cousins was solid in Week 1, passing for 259 yards with two touchdown and one interception as the Packers blew the doors off the Vikings. Now Cousins will face a Colts team that allowed three passing touchdowns to Jaguars passer Gardner Minshew and a defensive unit that allowed 29 passing touchdowns last season. Cousins can be a frustrating fantasy asset but has an opportunity to post top-12 fantasy numbers among quarterbacks for Week 2.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 19-of-25 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Vikings disheartening 43-34 loss to the Packers. It was a choppy start for the Vikings offense and Cousins was sacked in the end zone for a safety in the first half. The veteran quarterback did lead the team to 24 fourth quarter points but it was not enough against an explosive Packers offense. Cousins should remain on the fringes of being fantasy viable heading into Week 2.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will have a difficult matchup Week 1 against the Packers. Cousins really struggled against Green Bay in 2019, passing for only 352 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions across two games against them last season. Green Bay was fantastic suppressing production from opposing passers last year, allowing the fourth fewest fantasy points to the position. They allowed only 18 touchdowns to quarterbacks and Cousins could struggle to post top-15 numbers among quarterbacks. Cousins is not a favorable option for Week 1.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins may not be drafted as a QB1 in upcoming drafts but the Vikings are banking on him having an elite season. Cousins numbers dipped last season, going from 30 touchdowns in 2018 to 26 last season and a passing yards regression from 4,298 to 3,603. Cousins can go on stretches where he easily can be considered a top-12 play among quarterbacks but consistency has been an issue for him. The 32-year-old currently is ranked 21 among quarterbacks via Rotoballer.com's rankings and will be an excellent QB2 in multiple passer fantasy leagues. But the jury is still out whether he can produce as a QB1 in 2020.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins has 'dialed in his accuracy' over the course of training camp, according to Arif Hasan of The Athletic.
Fantasy Spin: His numbers slipped a bit last year as Minnesota embraced a run-heavy approach, but he has completed more than 69 percent of his passes in both seasons with the Vikings and has tossed at least 25 touchdowns in five consecutive seasons. Cousins is a high-end QB2 with streaming potential.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins expressed a desire to use his legs more often in 2020. "I'm not going to say I'm Michael Vick, but I do have enough athleticism to make more plays with my feet," Cousins said. The signal-caller turned 32 years old on Wednesday, but he does have 15 career rushing touchdowns in eight seasons in the NFL. He might be forced to scramble more often if the passing game doesn't step up in the absence of Stefon Diggs, but we wouldn't expect a big improvement in Cousins' rushing TDs (he has just two in the last two years with Minnesota). A Pro Bowler for the second time in his career in 2019, Cousins makes for a solid fantasy backup or QB2 in superflex leagues.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins earned a 84.1 Pro Football Focus passing grade on throws outside the pocket in 2019 which ranked second among quarterbacks.
Fantasy Spin: Cousins is underrated on the move, and he's ranked in the fantasy QB top 15 in each of his two seasons with Minnesota. He's now without WR Stefon Diggs, but he's still a low-end QB2.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins led the NFL with an average depth of target of 19.2 yards on touchdown passes in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus.
Fantasy Spin: Cousins could see a dip in this department in 2020 following the offseason trade of WR Stefon Diggs, but it bodes well for rookie WR Justin Jefferson, who is the most likely replacement across from WR Adam Thielen. Cousins relies heavily on efficiency and is a low-upside QB1 in a run-first offense.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins threw a league-high 135 passes with at least eight defenders in the box in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins completed 65.5 percent of his passes, averaged 7.3 yards per pass attempt, threw 10 touchdowns versus five interceptions and recorded a passer rating of 94.8 when RB Dalvin Cook was not on the field in 2019. Conversely, Cousins completed 71 percent of his passes, averaged 8.5 yards per attempt, threw 16 touchdowns versus one interception and recorded a passer rating of 114.3 when Cook was on the field.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins threw five interceptions on 165 pass attempts without RB Dalvin Cook on the field in 2019, according to Next Gen Stats. Cousins threw just one interception on 279 pass attempts when Cook was on the field.
Fantasy Spin: Cook rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns on 250 attempts last season, and he caught 53 of 63 targets for another 519 yards. When he's healthy and on the field, he's a high-end RB1 and Cousins can be a low-end QB1 in pass-friendly matchups.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins posted a passer rating of 129.2 on throws over the middle of the field in 2019, according to Inside Edge NFL.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has mostly been successful in the NFL when pressured. While he doesn't face as much pressure as he once did, Cousins remains a top-five QB when under duress. His passer rating (91.5) was fifth-best in 2019, his completion percentage under pressure (58.1) was fourth-best and his completion percentage above expectation (plus-3.8) was in the top five. The 31-year-old is often overshadowed by some of the league's stars at the position, but he also lost his No. 1 receiver in Stefon Diggs and his offensive coordinator in Kevin Stefanski. He could take a step back in 2020 in an offense that will lean heavily on the running game. Target Cousins as a midrange QB2 with a low ceiling.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins has been the team's most valuable player of the past decade, according to Pro Football Focus' WAR.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins had a 9:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio on deep passes in 2019 and the highest passer rating (121.5) on such throws among NFL.com's Nick Shook's top-10 best deep passers last season. But his deep shots weren't nearly as risky as other QBs, as Cousins attempted deep shots into tight windows just 20.4 percent of the time and his receivers were open on 25.9 percent of his deep pass attempts with an average target separation of 2.2 yards. Cousins did this while being pressured on 31.5 percent of his deep attempts, but his probability for success was high to begin with. But losing Stefon Diggs, his No. 1 deep threat, will surely put a dent in these numbers in 2020. It's why Cousins' fantasy upside won't be as high this year while remaining in a run-first offense.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins threw a catchable ball 78.8 percent of the time in 2019 - tied for the third-best mark by a quarterback with at least 300 pass attempts.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins threw for a league-high 13 touchdowns on play-action passes in 2019, according to USA TODAY's Doug Farrar.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins offered up his thoughts on his team's Christmas Day game against the New Orleans Saints, noting the peculiarity of having to play on a Friday. 'I haven't played on a Friday since high school. That will be interesting,' Cousins said.
Fantasy Spin: The Week 16 game projects to be a marquee matchup in a rematch of the 2019 wild-card game at Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Late in the season, all players should be in a groove with fantasy managers having a strong idea of what to expect, but the day of the game may cause some sluggishness and lead to some disappointing fantasy performances in the championship week.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins enjoyed a league-high average of 2.7 seconds in the pocket in 2019.
