2020 RTSports Outlook

Brees missed five games last season because a thumb injury suffered in Week 2. He played at a very high level once he returned to the lineup in Week 8. He had a great season, finishing with 28 total touchdowns to just four interceptions in 11 games. Brees had at least 25 fantasy points seven of 11 games. His numbers were as good as ever in the Saints high-powered offense. Brees is 41 years old but keeps himself in great shape and knows the offense inside and out. He should continue to do well for the Saints. Brees has 10 of 12 seasons with 33 or more touchdowns. He also has 5,000 yards five of 11 seasons. Brees continues to be extremely accurate and makes great decisions, rarely making mistakes. The Saints have a balanced offense, but Brees gets plenty of chances to air it out on a weekly basis.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Brees remains a top-10 fantasy quarterback option. He has shown few signs of slowing down and keeps producing big in this offense. His numbers might regress a little at this stage of his career, but he'll have plenty of big games along the way. Expect around 4,200 yards and 35 total scores from Brees. He is a dependable weekly option for fantasy teams.

RotoBaller's Outlook

New Orleans Saints kicker Will Lutz proved himself to be an every-week, plug-and-play option last season. His finish was no surprise, as he completed 88.9% of his attempts last season and is attached to the always potentDrew Breesoffense. In 2020, the Saints play 10 of their games indoors, which provides a very safe baseline for Lutz and should make for another successful campaign in 2020. Grabbing a kicker like Lutz while other teams are grabbing late fliers, may provide your starting lineup with an advantage every week. His 150 fantasy points last season would have placed him at running back 21, ahead of New York Jets running back Le'Veon Bell in standard scoring.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is Pro Football Focus' highest-graded quarterback over the last two seasons when kept free from pressure.

Fantasy Spin: As Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill get set to compete for the Saints' backup role, there's little reason to believe Brees doesn't have multiple seasons left in him. The 41-year-old is under contract for the next two seasons and seems as though he will be an elite fantasy QB until he calls it quits.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees was one of three quarterbacks to finish inside the top five in QBR against man coverage (78.6; fourth) and versus zone coverage (72.5; fifth) in 2019, according to ESPN's Matt Bowen.

From TheHuddle

May 13 12:49pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees threw a catchable ball on 82.8 percent of his pass attempts in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions. The only other time a quarterback topped that mark over the last five seasons was when Brees threw a catchable ball 83.6 percent of the time in 2018.

Fantasy Spin: Brees owns the top three - and five of the top six - single-season marks in terms of completion percentage in NFL history, so it comes as no surprise so many of passes have been considered catchable. Age (he turned 41 in January) and the Saints' ability to run the ball in recent years has turned Brees into more of a matchup-based starter in fantasy, but there is no question he can still perform like a QB1 on occasion - especially inside the Superdome.

The New Orleans Saints selected Dayton tight end Adam Trautman with the No. 105 overall pick in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Trautman stands at 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds and can gain separation in the NFL because of his quickness. He can also block and can become a nice under-the-radar pass-catcher in the middle of the field. The problem is that 2020 will likely be quarterback Drew Brees' final season, and the Saints already have Jared Cook and Josh Hill at the position. Trautman is unlikely to have a huge offensive role in his rookie season, although the depth behind stud wideout Michael Thomas and veteran Emmanuel Sanders isn't great.

The New Orleans Saints surprised many by selecting Michigan offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz with the 24th pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. It appears that New Orleans may be looking to create another surprise on the draft's second night. The team is currently looking to acquire an early second-round pick, which would likely cost them a 2021 pick. The Saints could go several different ways if they're able to get a second-round selection, with needs at wide receiver, linebacker, cornerback, and even a quarterback for life without Drew Brees.

The New Orleans Saints selected Michigan center Cesar Ruiz with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday. Ruiz had 31 career starts in college and lost his father in a tragic accident when he was eight years old. The Saints are getting versatility on the offensive line, as he has experience at guard before he became an anchor at center for the Wolverines. Ruiz can fill a hole at either guard or center for New Orleans, and he should help block for the run and pass protect for veteran quarterback Drew Brees. He was easily considered the top center prospect in this draft class, but it was unknown if he'd fall into the early second round. His selection is good news for Saints running back Alvin Kamara as well.

The New Orleans Saints have been open to the possibility of moving up in tonight's draft. According to ESPN's Dianna Russini, the Saints have contacted all of the other teams scheduled to pick ahead of them to discuss a potential trade to move up. Picking at 24 in the draft, New Orleans could have their eyes on a particular player they believe could get selected early, thus prompting them to try and make a move. There remains no definitive trade in place though and the team remains confident they can still select the right player. Having been a Super Bowl contender the past few seasons with not many glaring needs, it does remain a mystery as to who the team brass has an eye on. Possible selections could be Drew Brees' successor at QB or a defensive player to bolster that unit.

Apr 3 11:33pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees threw an NFL-high 15 touchdowns over the final four games of 2019, tossing at least three touchdowns in every game.

Fantasy Spin: The Saints have adopted more of a balanced offensive approach in recent years, but Brees has maintained QB1 numbers thanks in large part to his remarkable efficiency. He has thrown 59 touchdowns compared to just nine interceptions over the past two years, completing more than 74 percent of his passes in both seasons.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees threw an on-target pass - defined as a pass that did or would have hit the receiver - on a league-high 84.1 percent of his throws in 2019.

The New Orleans Saints agreed to a two-year deal worth roughly $50 million with quarterback Drew Brees on Tuesday, according to a source. This was inevitable after Brees announced he would return for another season, but only with the Saints. The future Hall of Famer took a below-market deal to get one more shot at a Super Bowl run in 2020. The 41-year-old missed time with an injured finger and showed some diminishing arm strength last season, but he still has what it takes to lead this team deep into the playoffs, and he can still be a solid QB1, albeit without the sky-high upside, for fantasy owners. In just 11 games in 2019, Brees had 27 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

From RotoBaller

Mar 17 10:43am ET

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent QB Drew Brees agreed to a two-year deal worth about $50 million with the Saints Tuesday, March 17.

Fantasy Spin: Brees has lost a bit on his arm, but he still has a great situation around him that should keep him a midrange QB1 in fantasy.

From TheHuddle

Mar 17 12:30am ET

The New Orleans Saints are close to finalizing a new deal with quarterback Drew Brees, and it could be completed as soon as Tuesday. Brees announced that he would return for another go at it in 2020, but that it would only come with the Saints. He's expected to give the franchise a hometown discount to play for one last season. The future Hall of Famer missed some games with a freak finger injury in 2019 and looked to have lost some of his arm strength, but he still has excellent weapons in New Orleans and should at least be a low-end QB1 target for fantasy owners despite his age.

From RotoBaller

Mar 16 11:33pm ET

Free-agent QB Drew Brees is close to finalizing a deal to remain with the New Orleans Saints, and the deal could be completed Tuesday, March 17.

Fantasy Spin: Brees was still a top-tier fantasy quarterback in 2019 despite the fact he is getting a little long in the tooth. Nothing is expected to change in 2020, and he'll once again be a QB1 in fantasy leagues across the board.

From TheHuddle

Mar 12 5:50pm ET

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent quarterback Drew Brees has announced that he will return to the team for another season in 2020, and he's not expected to demand a top-dollar deal in what should be his final deal before retirement. Brees is likely to be signed for around $25 million, which would allow the Saints to make another move in free agency if they so please. The 41-year-old is nearing the end and played in just 11 games in 2019 due to a freak finger injury. He still completed 74.3 percent of his passes and had 27 touchdowns to only four interceptions, though. While the future Hall of Famer's arm strength isn't what it once was, he should still be at least a midrange QB1 target this fall.

From RotoBaller

Mar 5 12:43pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees reiterated Thursday, March 5, that he plans to re-sign with the Saints and added that he plans to finish his career in the Big Easy as well. 'Listen, I have no intention of going anywhere,' Brees said Thursday during a charity event. 'I don't care what the offer would be or what the situation might be, I am Who Dat Nation for life.'

Fantasy Spin: Despite missing five games, Brees finished tied for seventh among QBs with 23.9 fantasy points per game and will once again be in the back end of the QB1 conversation again this summer -- even at age 41.

From TheHuddle

Feb 27 6:03pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and his representation haven't yet had substantive contract talks with the team, according to general manager Mickey Loomis Thursday, Feb. 27, but a contract is expected to get done before the beginning of the new league year (March 18). 'We definitely have a goal to get it done before the league year begins,' Loomis said.

Fantasy Spin: All be status quo for the Saints' top offensive players in 2020 so long as Brees is re-signed. He'll be a top-end QB1, Michael Thomas will be a top wide receiver, Alvin Kamara will be a top running back and Jared Cook will be a mid-tier TE1.

From TheHuddle

Feb 18 1:13pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees announced he'll play in 2020.

Fantasy Spin: Brees was still highly productive despite missing significant time with a thumb injury. His 23.9 fantasy points per game was tied with Russell Wilson for sixth in the league among QBs with at least nine games played. He isn't what he once was physically, but he's still a midrange QB1 in fantasy.

From TheHuddle

Feb 18 12:40pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees announced that he will be returning for his 15th season as Saints quarterback. There was some uncertainty about whether Brees would retire this offseason, but his return was the widely expected result. This leaves Teddy Bridgewater very likely to become a free agent instead, where recent rumors say he may get $30 million a year offers. Brees should remain a solid fantasy option in all formats, although he has stated his willingness to give Taysom Hill more snaps under center.

From RotoBaller

Jan 31 9:23pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said he would be willing to give more snaps to QB Taysom Hill if both players return in 2020. 'Call the plays that puts us in the best position to win,' Brees said. 'If that means Taysom Hill is taking 30 snaps a game, 25 snaps a game, so be it.'

Fantasy Spin: Hill had success as a Swiss Army knife for the Saints offense last year, but Brees still delivered QB1 production when healthy. If both players are back next season, Brees should remain a viable fantasy starter, but Hill would be an intriguing stash candidate, especially in dynasty leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jan 30 1:43pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, a pending free agent, is still performing at a high level, head coach Sean Payton said Thursday, Jan. 30, in an interview on ESPN's First Take. 'The job is for (Brees) is to win, and he's done that,' Payton said. 'Is the ball going down the field the same way? Maybe it's not. And yet his (yards per attempt) and all those things have been real good.'

Fantasy Spin: Brees, 41, is taking some time this offseason to ponder his future, and if he does decide to commit to another season, count on Payton and the Saints readily handing over the keys as the team's unquestioned starter. In fantasy, Brees will resume his spot as a solid QB1 value.
