2020 RTSports Outlook

Dorsett was up and down in a reserve role last year for the Patriots. He had a 95-yard performance in Week 1 and six games with three or more receptions. But for the most part, he was pretty quiet, having 50 or fewer yards all but two games. Dorsett should play a reserve role again this season but with the Seahawks, serving as a No. 4 or 5 receiver. Dorsett has great speed and can be a top deep threat. His route running has improved in recent years but could still use a little work. He also has struggled with consistency since entering the league. Dorsett has more than 500 yards just once in five seasons. Fantasy Outlook: Dorsett has some big-game potential but will be really hit or miss for fantasy teams. He'll likely be more miss than hit most weeks. Expect around 30 receptions for 400 yards and a couple scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Phillip Dorsett has been considered a bust since the Colts drafted him in the first round in 2015. After two disappointing seasons in Indianapolis Dorsett spent three years as a lesser-noticed role player with the Patriots. He never totaled over 35 catches and 400 yards with New England. But he did catch five TD passes in 2019. Dorsett averaged over 16 yards per catch in 2016 and 2017, so there seems to be lingering potential to be a downfield playmaker. He now has the opportunity to show he can still be a big-play threat after signing a one-year deal with the Seahawks. Russell Wilson is considered a premier deep thrower and could coax some highlight clips out of Dorsett. But with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf both firmly established as starters, the best Dorsett can do is beat out David Moore for the No. 3 WR job. He may be occasionally productive for the Seahawks but will not contribute enough to be anything more than a very deep Best Ball play or as a DFS pick a few times a year. Dorsett is way off redraft boards with an ADP of 325 and he is ranked 107 at WR by the RotoBaller staff. He should win the No. 3 WR job in Seattle, but that wont translate to a significant fantasy boost.

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks WR Phillip Dorsett's contract was officially processed by the league Monday, March 30.

From TheHuddle

Mar 24 6:21pm ET

The Seattle Seahawks are signing wide receiver Phillip Dorsett to an undisclosed one-year deal on Tuesday, according to a source. Dorsett spent the last three seasons in New England, where he caught 73 passes for 881 yards and eight touchdowns in 45 games (eight starts). He had 29 receptions (54 targets) for 397 yards and a career-high five touchdowns in 14 games (four starts) for the Pats in 2019. Dorsett was relied on mostly early in the season, as three of his five touchdowns came in the first month. The 27-year-old former first-round pick of the Colts in 2015 will battle for targets behind Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf in his new home. But in a run-first offense and potential limited targets, Dorsett won't be much of a fantasy option in standard-sized leagues.

Mar 24 3:13pm ET

Free-agent WR Phillip Dorsett (Patriots) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday, March 24. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Fantasy Spin: Dorsett will compete for the WR3 role in Seattle behind Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. He'll also be competing for targets with TEs Greg Olsen and Will Dissly, and RBs Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny. He won't be a fantasy option unless a bigger role opens up in the event of injury.

From TheHuddle

Mar 16 3:23pm ET

Free-agent WR Phillip Dorsett (Patriots) said he is receiving preliminary interest from the New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders.

Fantasy Spin: Dorsett is coming off a disappointing second half of the 2019 season but can be a top three receiver for a team. Fantasy players should monitor the situation because Dorsett could be a late round pick in fantasy drafts in 2020.

From TheHuddle

Mar 16 3:03pm ET

Free-agent WR Phillip Dorsett (Patriots) has reportedly 'talked quite a bit' with the New York Jets, according to multiple sources.

From TheHuddle

Mar 8 12:23pm ET

New England Patriots impending free-agent WR Phillip Dorsett said he will go into free agency with an open mind because of the reduced role he received with the Patriots this past season.

Fantasy Spin: Dorsett posted a career-high five touchdowns in 2019 but finished with only 29 receptions and 397 yards in 14 games. He probably will receive interest from multiple teams this offseason and could find a solid role with a team. Dorsett has a chance to be a late round option in some fantasy leagues depending on his situation.

From TheHuddle

Jan 13 12:53am ET

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett will likely depart in free agency during the offseason, in the opinion of ESPN's Mike Reiss, who notes that Dorsett's role as a receiver decreased as the season wore on.

From TheHuddle

Jan 5 12:03am ET

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 20 of his 37 passes for 209 yards and an interception in a 20-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card round Saturday, Jan. 4. RB Sony Michel rushed 14 times for 61 yards and caught two passes for nine yards, and RB James White caught five passes for 62 yards and rushed once for 14 yards. WR Julian Edelman caught three of his five passes for 30 yards and rushed twice for 12 yards and a touchdown, WR N'Keal Harry caught two of his seven targets for 21 yards, WR Mohamed Sanu caught one of his four passes for 11 yards, WR Phillip Dorsett caught one of his four targets for six yards, and TE Benjamin Watson caught three of his four targets for 38 yards. LB Dont'a Hightower led the team with nine tackles, including eight solo stops and one tackle for loss.

From TheHuddle

Jan 4 3:00pm ET

New England Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett should be avoided for this week's wildcard matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Dorsett was able to make a single catch against Miami last week for 50 yards but should be avoided this week. He is unlikely to be a reliable option for cash games, and there are better options that carry the same risk profile in GPP games, but with a much larger upside.

From RotoBaller

Dec 29 4:33pm ET

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 16-of-29 passes for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in an upset loss at home to the Miami Dolphins. RB Sony Michel led the way with 74 rushing yards on 18 attempts while scoring a touchdown, with RB Rex Burkhead adding 48 yards on six carries. WR Phillip Dorsett had a team-high 50 yards on one grab with four targets, while LB/FB Elandon Roberts had a 38-yard touchdown on his only touch. RB James White also added a score while finishing with three catches for 33 yards, and WR Julian Edelman managed three grabs for 26 yards on seven targets. WR N'Keal Harry also had three catches for 29 yards on seven targets while running once for nine yards.

From TheHuddle

Dec 18 4:10pm ET

New England Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett will take on a Bills Defense that is allowing the fourth fewest fantasy points to opposing receivers this season. The Bills have allowed only four touchdowns to receivers since Week 7 and Dorsett is coming off playing a season-low nine snaps last week. He appears to have fallen out of favor with quarterback Tom Brady and has only 15 receptions over his last eight games. Until he can consistently show he can make plays for the offense he will carry little to zero fantasy value.

From RotoBaller

Dec 2 3:23am ET

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett (concussion) was targeted six times in Week 13, catching two passes for 15 yards against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Spin: Dorsett returned to action after missing the Dallas game and did little as he and Tom Brady couldn't connect downfield. He's had his moments this year, but the former first-round pick isn't a fantasy factor.

From TheHuddle

Dec 1 7:03pm ET

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett (concussion) is officially active for the team's Week 13 game.

Fantasy Spin: Dorsett will return to the lineup after missing a few games and probably will receive a few deep passes during the game. He could be a flex option in some deeper leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 1 12:30pm ET

New England Patriots wide receivers Mohamed Sanu (ankle) and Phillip Dorsett (concussion) are both expected to play on Sunday night against the Texans, according to sources. Sanu was very close to suiting up last week against the Cowboys, so he should be back for this one. It's hard to forecast heavy targets for either Sanu or Dorsett behind Julian Edelman in a passing offense that has struggled in recent weeks. Sanu is probably the better option as a WR4/flex, but both receivers have the potential to disappoint despite a pretty favorable matchup with Houston's secondary. Rookies N'Keal Harry and Jakobi Meyers will suffer if both Sanu and Dorsett are active.

From RotoBaller

Dec 1 9:53am ET

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett (concussion) is expected to play in Week 13's game against the Houston Texans, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Dorsett was listed as questionable on the injury report after logging three limited practice sessions during the week. When healthy, he can be viewed as a flex option in deeper fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Nov 29 6:50pm ET

New England Patriots wide receivers Julian Edelman (shoulder), Mohamed Sanu (ankle) and Phillip Dorsett (concussion) were limited in practice all week and are questionable for Week 13 against the Texans on Sunday night. All three players are expected to play against Houston and they should form the majority of three-receiver sets. That's bad news for rookies N'Keal Harry and Jakobi Meyers. Edelman could see a lot of Bradley Roby in this one, but he remains Tom Brady's favorite target and remains a must-start, especially in PPR leagues. Sanu and Dorsett have volume concerns in this multi-faceted offense, and they'll both be boom/bust WR4/flex plays.

From RotoBaller

Nov 29 6:03pm ET

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett (concussion) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 29, and is listed as questionable for Week 13.

Fantasy Spin: Dorsett probably will be able to play this week if he is cleared by the doctors, so fantasy players should check the inactive list for his official status. He has caught five touchdowns in eight games this season and will have a role if he plays but could be benched if players have better options available.

From TheHuddle

Nov 29 5:23pm ET

New England Patriots TE Ryan Izzo (illness) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Houston Texans. LB Kyle Van Noy (illness) did not practice Friday, Nov. 29, and is listed as questionable. S Patrick Chung (illness, heel, chest), LB Jamie Collins (illness), OL Jermaine Eluemunor (illness), CB Stephon Gilmore (illness), LB Dont'a Hightower (illness), CB Joejuan Williams (illness), OT Isaiah Wynn (illness), LB Ja'Whaun Bentley (knee), OT Marcus Cannon (illness), WR Phillip Dorsett (concussion), S Nate Ebner (ankle, back), WR Julian Edelman (shoulder), CB Jason McCourty (groin), WR Mohamed Sanu (ankle), WR Matthew Slater (hamstring) and OL Byron Cowart (head) were limited in practice Friday and are also listed as questionable. QB Tom Brady (elbow) returned to a full practice Friday and has been removed from the injury report. DE John Simon (elbow) was not given a practice designation for a second straight day but also no longer appears on the injury report.
