Buccaneers add veteran RB LeSean McCoy on 1-year contract

Tue Aug 4 9:13am ET

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Six-time Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy has finalized a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs announced the signing Tuesday, adding yet another offensive playmaker to help Tom Brady with his new team.

The 32-year-old McCoy agreed to terms last week and is entering his 12th NFL season. He has started 141 of 160 career games, rushing for 11,071 yards and 73 touchdowns while also impacting the passing attack with 503 receptions for 3,797 yards and 16 TDs with the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.

McCoy led the league in rushing in 2013, earning the first of five consecutive Pro Bowl berths. He added a Super Bowl title to his resume as a backup with the Chiefs last season, rushing for 465 yards and scoring five touchdowns.

Brady, 43, signed a two-year, fully guaranteed $50 million contract in free agency after appearing in nine Super Bowls - winning six - over 20 seasons with the Patriots.

The Bucs also added the quarterback's favorite target, Rob Gronkowski, to an already exceptional group of receivers and tight ends. Tampa Bay reinforced a commitment to help Brady be successful by drafting offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs and retaining three key members of an emerging defense.

Ben Roethlisberger Aug 3 7:43pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) threw passes during practice Monday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Spin: Roethlisberger missed most of the 2019 season because of an elbow injury but appears to be on track for Week 1. He posted terrific numbers in 2018 and should be considered a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in standard leagues.

Alex Tanney Aug 3 7:03pm ET

New York Giants QB Alex Tanney (undisclosed) passed his physical Monday, Aug. 3, and was activated from the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

Rashaad Penny Aug 3 6:53pm ET

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Spin: Penny is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and may not be ready for the start of the regular season. Fantasy players can keep an eye on the situation but may want to avoid Penny until he returns to practice. Chris Carson will receive most of the carries and should be a weekly starting option in all leagues.

Dalvin Cook Aug 3 6:50pm ET

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook arrived at camp last Tuesday despite previously stating that he would not report unless he received a new deal. However, under the new collective bargaining agreement, the 24-year-old ran the risk of becoming a restricted free agent beyond 2020 by not showing up, something he ultimately did not want to do. Cook had a breakout season in 2019, finishing with 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. He also added 53 catches for 519 yards and was also one of the most prolific runners after contact. He is slated to make $1.3 million if an agreement isn't reached. Nonetheless, with the team vowing to work to get a new deal done, fantasy managers can feel a bit more confident by selecting Cook in the first round of fantasy drafts for the upcoming campaign.

Jordan Reed Aug 3 3:03pm ET

Free-agent TE Jordan Reed (Washington) reportedly agreed to an incentive-laden, one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, Aug. 3. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Fantasy Spin: It's obviously not the best fantasy landing spot for Reed given the presence of George Kittle, but it's hard to fault the 49ers for making this move. If/when healthy, Reed and Kittle will be a nightmare for defenses to defend. At the very least, this move cushions a potential absence from Deebo Samuel. Reed figures to begin the season just off the radar in most standard 12-team leagues given his extensive concussion history, but he could move into TE2 territory if he can stay on the field.
