Patriots LB Matthew Judon (biceps) set for surgery

Tue Oct 3 10:37am ET
Field Level Media

New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon is slated for surgery to repair his torn right biceps on Wednesday, ESPN reported.

It is unclear whether he will return to the field in 2023.

Judon was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 38-3 blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The injury occurred when Judon attempted to tackle running back Deuce Vaughn.

In four games this season, Judon has 13 tackles and four sacks.

A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Judon is in his third season with the Patriots after spending five with the Baltimore Ravens. He posted a career-high 15.5 sacks in 2022.

The New Orleans Saints (2-2) visit the Patriots (1-3) on Sunday.

Under the Radar Plays: Week 4

Player Notes
Mike Evans Oct 3 11:10am ET
Mike Evans

The belief is that Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans (hamstring) is dealing with a mild hamstring injury that he suffered in the Week 4 win over the New Orleans Saints, according to sources. It bodes well for his return following the team's Week 5 bye, but he'll undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday to confirm it. Evans left the game in the second quarter on Sunday and never returned, finishing with three catches for 40 yards in the win. The 30-year-old was seen riding a stationary bike on the sidelines and was trying to return, but Tampa held him out as a precaution. The bye week comes at a perfect time for Evans and his fantasy managers, as he should be back out there in Week 6 against the visiting Detroit Lions on Sunday, Oct. 15.

Dallas Goedert Oct 3 11:10am ET
Dallas Goedert

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert ranks 28th among NFL tight ends in yards (88) through four games of the season and hasn't scored a touchdown yet. Since 2021 Goedert ranks fifth among NFL tight ends in receiving yards with 1,620, which makes his slow start this year more alarming. He leads the league since 2021 in average yards after the catch (6.8) and ranks second in yards per catch (13.1). The 28-year-old is currently averaging a career-low 6.8 yards per touch. The Eagles coaching staff wants to get Goedert more involved and expect him to get going soon. "Trust me I promise you he's still part of the plan of us wanting to get him the football. We need to get him the football," head coach Nick Sirianni said.

Wan'Dale Robinson Oct 3 9:56am ET
Wan'Dale Robinson

New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson snagged five of his six targets for 40 yards and added one rush for seven yards in the team's 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. The second-year receiver led the Giants in targets on the night. It's not an amazing stat line, but this is just his second game back from an ACL tear suffered in his rookie season. As he continues to play more snaps, Robinson may emerge as Daniel Jones' top receiving option on an offense that lacks playmakers. The former second-round pick is worth a roster spot in standard-sized leagues, especially in PPR formats, to see if he continues to produce as his playing time increases.

Matt Judon Oct 3 9:13am ET
Matt Judon

New England Patriots LB Matt Judon (biceps) will undergo surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon Wednesday, Oct. 4. He hopes to return this year, but it's questionable if that is possible. He's out indefinitely.

Tyler Lockett Oct 3 1:50am ET
Tyler Lockett

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett led the team in receptions, catching four passes for 54 yards. He, along with rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba, also saw the most targets on the team with six. Seattle's Week 4 victory over the New York Giants owed more to the defense than what the offense could produce. Not counting the two-play drive that started on the Giants' seven-yard line following a fumble recovery and resulted in a touchdown thrown to DK Metcalf, five of the Seahawks' 11 series lasted four plays or fewer and only two series lasted longer than three minutes. The Seahawks have a bye in Week 5 which may help the offense gel before heading to Cincinnati in Week 6.

D.K. Metcalf Oct 3 1:40am ET
D.K. Metcalf

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf found the end zone for the first time since Week 1 in Monday's 24-3 victory over the New York Giants. The touchdown reception came at the end of the first quarter after Seattle's defense forced a fumble on the Giants' seven-yard line. In Week 4, he caught a total of three passes on four targets for 34 receiving yards, all of his production coming in the first half. It was another game where Seattle's offense looked somewhat out of sync, though that may have had to do with the fact that they lost Geno Smith (knee) and both starting guards to injury before halftime. With a bye in Week 5, the Seahawks have some extra time to recover and get on the same page before taking on the Bengals in Week 6.

Kenneth Walker III Oct 3 1:30am ET
Kenneth Walker III

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III took 17 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown on Monday night against the New York Giants. His score made it the third consecutive week he reached the end zone. Walker nearly had a 73-yard touchdown on Seattle's first drive after he rolled over the top of his tackler, but the replay revealed that his elbow had touched the turf on the play, resulting in a two-yard loss. Walker also reasserted himself as the primary option in Seattle's backfield, logging 39 snaps to Zach Charbonnet's 13. The Seahawks have a bye in Week 5, but fantasy managers should plug Walker right back into their starting lineups when they return to action against the Bengals in Week 6.

Geno Smith Oct 3 1:20am ET
Geno Smith

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that quarterback Geno Smith (knee) twisted his knee in the 24-3 blowout win over the New York Giants on Monday night. Carroll said that Smith will probably be sore on Tuesday, but his injury isn't considered serious. Smith had to leave the game and was noticeably upset at the Giants defender that tackled him awkwardly out of bounds in the second quarter. But he returned for the start of the second half and finished the contest going 13-for-20 for 110 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in the easy win. The 32-year-old was sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards. Smith wasn't really asked to do much in this one and produced a disappointing line for his fantasy managers. He'll have ample time to rest his knee with the bye coming in Week 5 before a Week 6 tilt on the road in Cincinnati against the Bengals.

Elijah Mitchell Oct 3 1:10am ET
Elijah Mitchell

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) is considered day-to-day before practice begins for Week 5 versus the Dallas Cowboys, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Mitchell missed Sunday's easy win against the Arizona Cardinals with a right knee injury after taking on his largest workload of the year (14 touches) in Week 3. The 25-year-old suffered the setback during last Thursday's practice in the same knee he sustained an MCL sprain in last year, costing him nine games. Though, a day-to-day designation certainly leaves the door open for him to return soon. Mitchell saw Jordan Mason flip four touches into 23 yards as the change-of-pace back in his stead while Christian McCaffrey broke Sunday's slate for 177 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns. Mitchell hasn't done much with 16 carries this year, but he remains one of fantasy's highest-upside handcuffs behind the oft-injured McCaffrey.

Pat Freiermuth Oct 3 1:00am ET
Pat Freiermuth

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (hamstring) is expected to miss two-to-three weeks, per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Freiermuth suffered a hamstring injury during Week 4's loss to the Houston Texans, and this development coincides with a previous report that he isn't dealing with just a tweak. The 24-year-old is currently labeled as questionable for Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens, but he should be deemed closer to the doubtful side of that tag based on this timetable. Pittsburgh has a Week 6 bye, so perhaps fantasy managers can circle Week 7 (Oct. 22) as a reasonable Freiermuth return date. Third-round rookie Darnell Washington, a freak athlete out of Georgia, could be in for an augmented role if Freiermuth indeed misses time, but he wouldn't be a recommended streamer against a Ravens defense allowing the third-fewest fantasy points per game to tight ends in 2023.

Jamal Adams Oct 3 12:43am ET

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks S Jamal Adams (head) is expected to be fine after leaving the Week 4 game against the New York Giants, head coach Pete Carroll said Monday, Oct. 2.

Darren Waller Oct 3 12:40am ET
Darren Waller

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller caught all three of his targets for just 21 yards in the team's blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Two of Waller's receptions came on the second-to-last drive for Big Blue. The Giants' offense, once again, sputtered in the primetime lights. Quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked 11 times, threw two interceptions, and lost a fumble. It's getting harder for fantasy managers to trust Waller. However, given the state of the tight end position, there aren't many high-upside options on waiver wires better than the ex-Raider. Waller and the Giants will try and kickstart their offense in Miami in Week 5.

Jelani Woods Oct 3 12:40am ET
Jelani Woods

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen says that tight end Jelani Woods (hamstring) will remain on injured reserve this week, per Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star. Woods' hamstring injury cost him the entire preseason and he doesn't appear to be ready to take practice reps quite yet, either. The 2022 third-round pick flashed at times in his rookie season, ultimately securing 25 out of 40 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games. Even so, Woods belongs on fantasy waiver wires with his return not exactly seeming imminent. Kylen Granson has acted as Indianapolis' primary tight end with 11 catches for 88 yards and a score, but Drew Ogletree generated 48 yards while visiting the end zone in Week 4. There's not much to see here for fantasy purposes in most leagues.

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard was good for a 6-yard catch on his lone target in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks.

New York Giants RB Matt Breida rushed 14 times for just 30 yards in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks, while adding five grabs for a team-best 48 yards on five targets.

Daniel Jones Oct 3 12:20am ET
Daniel Jones

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 203 yards and rushed for another 66 in the team's 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Similar to Jones' night in their season opener against Dallas, the veteran quarterback was relentlessly pressured in the pocket. When the final whistle blew, Jones had been sacked on 11 occasions and turned the ball over three times. The Giants' offense, once again, looked like one of the worst units in the league. Jones can't be trusted in fantasy lineups until this offense shows any signs of life. The Giants travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins in Week 5.

From RotoBaller

Matt Breida Oct 3 12:20am ET
Matt Breida

New York Giants running back Matt Breida rushed the ball 14 times for 30 yards but turned five receptions into 48 more yards in the team's 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. His highlight of the night (which was also the Giants' longest play of the game) came on a 22-yard catch when quarterback Daniel Jones scrambled out of the pocket and found the running back jetting down the field. This could be the curtain call for Breida, who was filling in for starter Saquon Barkley (ankle). Barkley is aiming to return for the Giants' Week 5 matchup against Miami. If he doesn't, Breida will be serviceable as a flex option for fantasy football managers.

Javonte Williams Oct 3 12:20am ET
Javonte Williams

Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams (hip) sustained a hip flexor injury during Week 4's 31-28 comeback win over the Chicago Bears, and he isn't expected to miss much time, if any, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Williams took only 17% of Denver's offensive snaps before exiting on Sunday, handling two carries for no gain and three catches for nine yards. Undrafted rookie Jaleel McLaughlin burst onto the scene for 104 total yards and a touchdown on Sunday while presumed No. 2 back Samaje Perine plodded his way to 12 yards on six carries with two receptions for 23 yards. It's great to hear Williams isn't dealing with anything serious as he continues working his way back from a 2022 torn ACL with just 138 yards on 38 carries and 11 catches for 51 yards so far this year. It sounds as if the 23-year-old is on the right side of questionable ahead of practice for Week 5 versus the New York Jets.

Jarran Reed Oct 3 12:13am ET
Jarran Reed

Seattle Seahawks DL Jarran Reed (shin) suffered a shin injury in the Week 4 game against the New York Giants, and he ended up being carted off. 'It's not broken or anything,' head coach Pete Carroll said Monday, Oct. 2. 'He'll be pretty sore for the next few days. He'll be alright.'

From TheHuddle

Keaton Mitchell Oct 3 12:10am ET
Keaton Mitchell

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh says running back Keaton Mitchell (shoulder) could be activated from injured reserve this week, per Jonas Shaffer of TheBaltimoreBanner.com. Mitchell hurt his shoulder during an Aug. 21 preseason exhibition, forcing him to IR ahead of the regular season. The 21-year-old undrafted rookie could assume the roster spot of veteran Melvin Gordon III, who has bounced back and forth from the practice squad this season, if he is reinstated before Week 5's divisional tilt with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mitchell was a curiously hot waiver wire add on Yahoo ahead of Week 4, but his role is unlikely to translate into fantasy value at this time behind Gus Edwards and Justice Hill.
