Hard to believe, but there’s only two weeks left of the regular season! After this weekend, you’ll only have one more chance to pick up some players to help win a championship.
You can pick some extra games for your players and the players you pick up by looking at this week’s schedule. Tops on the list are the Cardinals with 10 games including three doubleheaders. Most of their outfielders; Harrison Bader, Tyler O’Neill, Lane Thomas and Austin Dean are available in most leagues. And Dylan Carlson could be recalled as he’s the only one of the group that hits from the left side. They’ve all been showing some power hitting and should get the at bats to do some more.
Both Miami and Pittsburgh have nine games this week. Miami still has playoffs hopes but a couple of their players, Brian Anderson and Garrett Cooper could be available. Pittsburgh has little to play for, hoping to be spoilers. But the top three in their order, Erik Gonzalez, Adam Frazier and Ke’Bryan Hayes will see steady playing time and are available in many leagues. These players are all marginal, but they will have opportunity.
Baltimore, Milwaukee and Philadelphia play eight this week. And the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Oakland, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Washington and the Los Angeles Dodgers play seven. At the other end, playing only five games are the Chicago Cubs, Kansas City and perhaps the San Francisco. The Giants are the latest team to miss games this weekend as a player tested positive for the dreaded bat virus. The rest of team is undergoing testing, so when they play again is unknown. They aren’t scheduled till Tuesday at Seattle and play this weekend against Oakland. On the Thursday off day, they could play a make-up game or two against San Diego, but chances are they’ll make up the games next weekend.
There are 12 teams that play six games this week, making them neutral. And offering little chance to find a two-start pitcher from them to pick up. Getting a few extra starts when there is so little of the season left could be important if you need strikeouts and wins. The pickings are pretty slim this week, but a couple of pitchers that might be on your waiver wire are Anibal Sanchez, Jake Woodford, Michael Wacha, Julio Teheran and Taylor Clarke.
Two weeks to go. Make the best of them!
