Weekly Bender: Fantasy Frustrations

Mon Sep 29 1:55pm ET
By HOWARD BENDER
Fantasy Writer

In fantasy football, some weeks you’re the dog and some weeks you’re the hydrant. That’s how I opened my weekly hot takes video following the Sunday afternoon action of NFL Week 4. Not that I felt literally pissed on, but definitely pissed off. I thought, perhaps, maybe I’ll feel better after an action-packed Sunday Night Football game and a good night sleep; that I would be able to come here and write a Weekly Bender article filled with positivity and hope for those who may be struggling in the early weeks of their fantasy football season. But as I sit here now, picking up the pieces of my most nightmarish weeks of the 2025 season, the feelings of Hulk-smashing my computer are stronger than ever.

Now don’t worry. I’m not going to sit here and whine and cry about losing Malik Nabers to a torn ACL. Injuries happen and there’s nothing you can do about them. Does it suck? For sure. But what sucks even more when the injury news you’re supposed to be getting doesn’t come through when it should. Case in point: Jaylen Warren.

Every bit of news we received regarding Warren indicated that he would play. He was limited in practice all week with a designation of “rest/knee” and on Saturday morning at 11 am ET, Adam Schefter tweeted out that Warren was expected to play. We literally heard nothing else until early Sunday morning when Brooke Pryor of ESPN tweeted a video of Warren warming up on the field with a “questionable but I’d imagine he’s good to go.”

And then he was declared inactive just before the game. Cue up the sad trombone. Now listen…I’m not going to go on some profanity-laced tirade about how NFL beat writers are total garbage these days and no one is asking the coaches the tough questions they should be asking for fear of losing their locker room access. I’ve been fighting that battle for years. Instead, I’m going to piss and moan about these games being played overseas in Europe. Can we stop this nonsense already? It is literally nothing more than a money-grab by the NFL. They get all the rights and all the revenue that come from these games and there’s no way we’re ever going to get a successful World League of American Football. It’s been tried before and it’s failed miserably. So why does the NFL keep doing it? Money. That’s it.

But it’s the fans and the fantasy community that suffer most because of the time difference. Do you have any idea how many texts, emails, tweets and other messages I got from people who slept through lineup lock? It’s ridiculous. Now, sure, they only have themselves to blame. Set an alarm clock, for crying out loud. Getting up at 9 am ET on a Sunday shouldn’t be too difficult. But then that backlash falls on me, the guy who has to get his ass up at 3:30 am to write articles, set lineups and answer start/sits in time to help you all. These stupid Europe games are now making my job more difficult while simultaneously ruining your fantasy teams and football Sunday.

What else has me all steamed up…?

Let’s start with Adonai Mitchel because he’s the epitome of what’s wrong with younger players. Fundamentals, you idiot. Fundamentals. How many videos of players do we have to see of veterans who have done it in years past? Kids these days have their heads buried in their phones, so don’t tell me Mitchell never saw the video of Jonatan Taylor doing it in 2024 or Malachi Corley also last year or DeSean Jackson in 2008 or back in college when NFL washout Kaelin Clay did it in 2014. There’s even a stupid Hulu show called Chad Powers being advertised AS WE SPEAK that shows it. That was a 76-yard touchdown erased from existence. And not only did I recommend this idiot as a DFS dart-throw this week, and used him in my lineups, but he also ruined Taylor’s 53-yard touchdown run with a stupid holding penalty because he…what…? Doesn’t know his fundamentals.

It doesn’t matter who’s calling the plays in Tennessee. This offense is going nowhere for two reasons. Number one is the offensive line. Are we going to hang Cam Ward out to dry like everyone did Will Levis when he got absolutely no pass protection? How’s a kid supposed to learn to be an NFL-caliber quarterback when he’s running for his life on every play. Or, and this is number two – when his receivers can’t hold onto the damn ball. I’m officially done with Calvin Ridley. I gave him a shot, but this guy has to go. The drops have been maddening and then with Ward having no time to throw, he either doesn’t finish his routes or he quits on them.

The Commanders backfield is trash. Jacory Croskey-Merritt, a.k.a. Bill seems to be the biggest fantasy hoax of the 2025 draft season and none of the running backs can build any sort of momentum because they’re just alternating series.  Do we think their value is somehow going to improve once Jayden Daniels returns and starts running the football himself? Time to clear some room on your rosters.

Can we all please just get out of the Cleveland tight end game? After all that hype on Harold Fannin and all the defending of David Njoku from many of us, the bottom line is that both suck and have no value until one of them gets hurt. They’re sharing snaps, sharing targets and with this offense going absolutely nowhere, neither should be started in fantasy.

There were two quarterbacks I was using in DFS this past week – Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. I was actually more into Mahomes, but ownership numbers told me to pivot to Jackson in cash games and I’m still banging my head against a wall for allowing that to change my decision. I wouldn’t normally be mad about something like this if it wasn’t for the fact that Jackson bitched out of the second half, claiming he had a hamstring issue. We didn’t see him receiving any medical attention, he wasn’t on a massage table getting treatment and he never went back to the locker room to get it wrapped. He was getting beat on the field and he didn’t want any of that Kansas City smoke. I’ve spent the past how many years defending this guy, praising this guy, promoting this guy and for what…? To be shown he actually doesn’t have heart. Gimme Footsteps Falco next time.

And finally, games that end in a tie are garbage. Play until there’s a winner. Simple as that.

Bender out.

Starts, Sits, Sleepers: Week 13

Player Notes
Geno Smith Nov 29 9:20am CT
Geno Smith

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith took a career-high 10 sacks in last week's loss to the Cleveland Browns and completed 30 of 44 passes for 285 yards with a touchdown. The offense could look a little different in Week 13 against the Chargers after the Raiders dismissed offensive coordinator Chip Kelly earlier in the week, with Greg Olson taking over. Smith will look to bounce back on Sunday against the Chargers and deliver a better performance than when they met back in Week 2, where he threw three interceptions. Smith isn't a recommended fantasy option in Week 13, ranking as RotoBaller's QB30 for the week.

From RotoBaller

Michael Badgley Nov 29 9:10am CT
Michael Badgley

Indianapolis Colts kicker Michael Badgley has shown solid accuracy across six games for his team this season, hitting nine of his 10 field-goal attempts and 17 of 19 extra points. The veteran kicker kept it going in last week's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, hitting both of his field goals and adding two extra points. Badgley will now head home to face off against the Houston Texans in Week 13. The Texans have been excellent against opposing kickers this season, allowing the fewest fantasy points per game to the position thus far. The Colts have provided plenty of scoring opportunities for their kickers this season, but this sets up as one of their toughest matchups yet. Badgley settles in outside of the top-12 fantasy kickers this week, but he can still be started in a pinch.

From RotoBaller

Chris Godwin Nov 29 9:10am CT
Chris Godwin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. (leg) will suit up for the second straight week after missing five games due to a leg injury. Godwin was limited last week as he played only 36 percent of the offensive snaps. During that time, Godwin hauled in two of his four targets for nine yards in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The expectation is that Godwin will see a larger workload going forward. However, it's unknown how well the Bucs will do passing the ball with Baker Mayfield (shoulder) dealing with an AC joint injury. Godwin wasn't impressive when he was healthy earlier in the season. Fantasy managers should put him on the flex radar for this upcoming matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

From RotoBaller

Kenneth Walker III Nov 29 9:00am CT
Kenneth Walker III

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III (glute) was cleared from the team's injury report and is good to go for Sunday's matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Walker separated a bit from Zach Charbonnet in Week 12 against the Titans, posting his highest snap share of the season (63.8%) while Charbonnet had his lowest (31.9%). The 25-year-old Walker has also gone over 100 yards from scrimmage in each of the past two games on 33 combined touches, with Charbonnet staying involved, but with only 19 touches in the past two weeks. Notably, Walker has earned more red-zone carries recently than earlier in the year, but has only found the end zone once. It seems the coaching staff is trending towards using Walker more as the lead back moving forward, which bodes well for his fantasy value as he's always been dynamic with his opportunities. Walker ranks as RotoBaller's RB21 in PPR leagues for Week 13 against the Minnesota Vikings.

From RotoBaller

Marvin Harrison Jr. Nov 29 8:40am CT
Marvin Harrison Jr.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (illness) is listed as questionable for Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being limited every day in practice this week. Harrison has been recovering from appendectomy surgery, which has caused him to miss the past two games. His status for Sunday is not officially known yet, but he is trending in the right direction. The second-year wideout should have appeal in Week 13 if he can return with how much pass volume Arizona has had with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback. It will be interesting to see how he fits back into the offense with Michael Wilson breaking out in his absence, but Harrison should reclaim his role as the top wideout in the passing game alongside star tight end Trey McBride. He ranks as RotoBaller's WR27 in PPR leagues for Sunday's matchup against a Bucs defense that has allowed the 10th most PPR points per game to opposing wide receivers.

From RotoBaller

Chase McLaughlin Nov 29 8:30am CT
Chase McLaughlin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin gave fantasy managers a dud during last week's loss to the Los Angeles Rams. McLaughlin didn't see much action as he made his lone extra point attempt in the loss. McLaughlin didn't attempt any field goals in what was an ugly day for the Bucs offense. The hope is that things get better against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13. However, quarterback Baker Mayfield (shoulder) is dealing with an AC joint injury which could limit this offense. McLaughlin has been reliable when called upon, so as long as the Bucs can get in scoring position then he'll be able to succeed this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Zonovan Knight Nov 29 8:30am CT
Zonovan Knight

Arizona Cardinals running back Bam Knight (knee) is questionable for Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but is expected to play on Sunday. With Trey Benson (knee) ruled out for his eighth consecutive game, and Emari Demercado (ankle) sidelined again, Knight is in to draw the start and split touches with Michael Carter. Carter has outsnapped Knight in the past two weeks with the same situation, but Knight holds the touch advantage with 23 compared to Carter's 15 in the past two games. The 24-year-old hasn't been efficient as a runner, recording 15 carries for 36 yards to go with eight receptions for 41 yards on nine targets, but has found the end zone in both games to return some fantasy value. Knight should lead Arizona in touches again on Sunday against a Bucs defense that has allowed the 11-most PPR points per game to opposing running backs. He ranks as RotoBaller's RB36 in PPR leagues for Week 13.

From RotoBaller

Daniel Jones Nov 29 8:30am CT
Daniel Jones

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (fibula) has been dealing with a fractured fibula, per reports but he intends to play in Week 13 against the Houston Texans. Jones was limited in practice on Wednesday before practicing fully on Thursday and Friday. He draws a difficult matchup against a Houston defense that is allowing the fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. The tough matchup, coupled with Jones' injury, makes it tough to trust him in fantasy this weekend. Treat him as a low-end QB2 who can be benched if you have a better quarterback option on your bench.

From RotoBaller

Bucky Irving Nov 29 8:10am CT
Bucky Irving

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving (shoulder, foot) is on track to return to the field for Sunday's Week 13 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Irving practiced in full all week, which puts him on track to play, barring any setbacks. This will be the first time that Irving has played since Week 4. That being said, Irving is expected to be limited in terms of snaps during his first game back. The Bucs have two other capable options in Sean Tucker and Rachaad White as well. This could turn into a three-back committee which would be bad news for fantasy managers. The Bucs might decide to ride the hot hand in what could be a run-heavy gameplan given quarterback Baker Mayfield (shoulder) is dealing with an AC joint issue. It's tough to trust Irving as more than a high-end flex option during his first game back.

From RotoBaller

Baker Mayfield Nov 29 8:00am CT
Baker Mayfield

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (shoulder) is expected to suit up for the Week 13 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Mayfield suffered a low-grade AC joint sprain to his left shoulder during last week's game. The plan is to protect his shoulder which could result in a slightly different gameplan. He was able to get through a full practice session on Friday, which puts him in the right direction for Sunday's contest. Mayfield has been held to under 200 passing yards in three of his last four games. He's clearly not 100 percent healthy, so fantasy managers can't count on him as much as they could earlier in the season. The 30-year-old should be viewed as a high-end QB2 with a favorable matchup against the Cardinals defense.

From RotoBaller

Alec Pierce Nov 29 7:30am CT
Alec Pierce

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce turned in a quiet outing in a Week 12 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, catching just one of his two targets for 26 yards. Overall, Pierce has been a solid fantasy producer this season, catching 29 passes for 611 yards and one touchdown in nine games. Pierce will look to stay productive in a Week 13 home matchup against the Houston Texans. The Texans have been tough on opposing wideouts, allowing just the 29th-most fantasy points per game to the position. With a 21.1 yards per catch average, Pierce offers intriguing boom potential in fantasy, which keeps him in the conversation as a WR3 in Week 13 despite the difficult matchup.

From RotoBaller

Tyler Warren Nov 29 7:30am CT
Tyler Warren

Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren turned in another solid outing in a Week 12 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, catching five of his seven targets for 45 yards. Warren has been an impressive rookie, catching 55 passes for 662 yards while scoring four all-purpose touchdowns in 11 games. He will look to keep it going in Week 13's home matchup against the Houston Texans. The Texans have been tough on tight ends this season, allowing just the 29th-most fantasy points per game to the position thus far. Warren remains a major piece of the Indy passing attack and should see plenty of work in Week 13, which keeps him in the top-six conversation at tight end despite the difficult matchup.

From RotoBaller

Michael Pittman Jr. Nov 29 7:20am CT
Michael Pittman Jr.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. continued to show a nose for the end zone in a Week 12 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, catching his seventh touchdown in 11 games. He will look to keep it going at home against the Houston Texans in Week 13. The Texans have been a difficult matchup for receivers this season, allowing just the 29th-most fantasy points per game to the position thus far. Pittman has operated as the Colts' No. 1 receiver this season and should continue to see plenty of targets, which keeps him in the low-end WR2 conversation for Week 13 despite the tough matchup.

From RotoBaller

Josh Downs Nov 29 7:20am CT
Josh Downs

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has been quiet of late, having caught just three of his eight targets for 13 scoreless yards over his past two games. Downs will look to get back on track at home against the Houston Texans in Week 13. The Texans represent a difficult matchup for Downs as they are allowing just the 29th-most fantasy points per game to opposing receivers this season. Downs has not been a priority target in the Indy passing attack this season, which has cut into his fantasy value. He sets up as a WR5 and is not a safe fantasy option heading into Week 13.

From RotoBaller

Jonathan Taylor Nov 29 6:50am CT
Jonathan Taylor

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is coming off a rare slow outing for him as he gained just 58 scoreless yards in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12. Taylor will look to bounce back at home against the Houston Texans in Week 13. The Texans have been solid against the run this season, allowing just the 22nd-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs thus far. Taylor has been one of the most dominant fantasy players in the league this season with 17 all-purpose touchdowns in 11 games and should be locked into starting lineups on a weekly basis regardless of his opponent. He sets up as a top-three fantasy running back for Week 13.

From RotoBaller

Harrison Mevis Nov 29 6:20am CT
Harrison Mevis

Los Angeles Rams kicker Harrison Mevis finally kicked his first NFL field goal during his third game last Sunday. He remains perfect on kicks this season, and his strong stretch of games prompted the Rams to release fellow kicker Joshua Karty on Friday. Mevis now has the position group all to himself, and he's surging at the right time. He went 4-for-4 on extra points and 2-for-2 on field goals last week, including one from beyond 50 yards out. He remains a perfect 13-for-13 on extra points and 2-for-2 on field goals since joining the Rams and making his NFL debut. This week, Mevis takes on a Panthers team allowing the 10th-fewest fantasy points to opposing kickers in 2025. Despite this tougher matchup, Mevis is a promising fantasy kicker thanks to how frequently the Rams get into scoring position. He's certainly worth streaming and starting this weekend. After all, he ranks as the overall K6 in RotoBaller's Week 13 fantasy rankings.

From RotoBaller

Blake Corum Nov 29 6:10am CT
Blake Corum

Los Angeles Rams running back Blake Corum continues to carve out a modest role behind Kyren Williams. However, the bulk of his volume has been short-yardage runs, leaving him off the fantasy radar in most leagues. Over the last two weeks, Corum has a respectable 15 carries, but he has totaled just 34 rushing yards (2.27 yards per carry). He also has zero touchdowns and just one reception during that span. Williams remains the clear lead-back in Los Angeles, which leaves Corum as a bench-worthy running back in most fantasy leagues. Even against the Panthers, who have allowed the eighth-most rushing yards and seventh-most fantasy points to running backs in 2025, Corum isn't a dependable fantasy option. He ranks as the overall RB49 in this week's RotoBaller fantasy rankings.

From RotoBaller

Colby Parkinson Nov 29 6:10am CT
Colby Parkinson

Los Angeles Rams tight end Colby Parkinson has caught a touchdown pass in each of his last three games while cementing himself atop the depth chart. The 26-year-old has been quite productive in the wake of Tyler Higbee (ankle) landing on injured reserve, and he's firmly on the fantasy radar for his Week 13 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Over his last three games, Parkinson has 10 catches, 96 yards, and three touchdowns, ranking as the overall TE3 in PPR leagues during that span. While that's admittedly a small sample size and the touchdown streak may not be sustainable, Parkinson is still a solid streamer for this weekend. It certainly helps that the Panthers have allowed the second-most receiving yards and fifth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends in 2025. The 26-year-old ranks in the TE2 tier, but he can certainly be deployed as a starter this week in leagues with at least 12 teams.

From RotoBaller

Davante Adams Nov 29 6:00am CT
Davante Adams

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams has emerged as one of the most surefire touchdown threats in the NFL. He has an impressive five-game touchdown streak in the works, and during those five weeks, he has amassed a total of nine touchdowns. On the year, he ranks as the overall WR6 in PPR leagues with 48 catches, 631 yards, and 12 trips to the end zone. Adams was already one of the most talented receivers in the NFL, but he has taken his fantasy stock to the next level with his high-volume role inside one of the league's most prolific passing offenses led by MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford. Even while sharing volume with Puka Nacua, Adams has shown that he and the young receiver can co-exist inside this offense. Both are top-six receivers in terms of fantasy scoring this season and show no signs of slowing down. Despite Carolina allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025, Adams ranks as the overall WR6 in this week's RotoBaller fantasy rankings.

From RotoBaller

Jordan Whittington Nov 29 6:00am CT
Jordan Whittington

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Jordan Whittington remains off the fantasy radar in his role behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Whittington is nothing more than a fantasy handcuff, and he's not a reliable fantasy option for Sunday's Week 13 contest against the Carolina Panthers. He's coming off a game against the Buccaneers in which he tied his season-high with three receptions, and he added 17 yards on a 61% snap share. Evidently, even when Whittington is having one of his best games of the year, he's still seeing relatively modest target and snap share numbers. Plus, this week, he's facing off against a Panthers defense allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025. Whittington can be left on waivers in all leagues. He ranks as the overall WR84 in RotoBaller's fantasy rankings for Week 13.
