Rotisserie Dynasty Fantasy Baseball

The Game

Dynasty Fantasy Baseball ("the Contest") is a multi-season fantasy baseball game where you can start your own public league or join an existing public league. Leagues feature rotisserie style scoring with all teams competing for the league championship. Leagues are open to all players of all skill levels. You may choose the league that fits you best. The rules for this Contest are explained below.

Teams in the contest are drafted for multiple years of ownership. In their inaugural season, teams will draft 40 players for their roster. In all subsequent seasons, teams will retain 25 players and participate in a 15 round draft.

The Commissioner

RealTime Fantasy Sports, Inc. ("RTFS") will serve as the commissioner for fantasy baseball leagues and will be responsible for resolving any disputes that arise, such as rules violations or any other matters that may come up in connection with the Contest. All commissioner decisions by RealTime Fantasy Sports, Inc. are final.

Inaugural Season Draft

After the last team has joined the league, the league will be locked in and the draft order will be randomly generated. The draft order is a random order of all teams that have joined the league and is not affected by when teams join the league. Once the draft order is set, all teams will be notified via email the league is locked in and the draft order has been generated. If your league does not have all the required teams, the league will be disbanded prior to the scheduled draft date and time. If your league is disbanded you will be able to join another league or create a new league. RealTime Fantasy Sports reserves the right to move the scheduled draft time up to 90 minutes to give the league sufficient time to fill with the required number of teams.

The draft will be an S-style draft with the team picking last in the first round picking first in the second round and so on. For example, in a 12 team league:

  • Round 1: Team1, Team2, Team3, Team4, Team5, Team6, Team7, Team8, Team9, Team10, Team11, Team12
  • Round 2: Team12, Team11, Team10, Team9, Team8, Team7, Team6, Team5, Team4, Team3, Team2, Team1
  • Round 3: Team1, Team2, Team3, Team4, Team5, Team6, Team7, Team8, Team9, Team10, Team11, Team12
  • Round 4: Team12, Team11, Team10, Team9, Team8, Team7, Team6, Team5, Team4, Team3, Team2, Team1

In normal drafts, each team will have 8 hours per pick to draft a player.

If the league is designated to have a slow draft, each team will have between 2 and 8 hours to draft a player. In a slow draft the draft will pause from ~2:00am ET until 8:00am ET. Note: the clock may not pause at exactly 2:00am, it can take a couple minutes to get all leagues paused. Notifications via email, text, or the official RTFS app will be sent to team owners when they are on the clock. Team owners may select to receive notifications after each completed draft pick. RealTime Fantasy Sports reserves the right to reduce the draft time for each team in the final week before the start of the first game of the season.

After you join or create a league, you will have the opportunity to establish your own auto draft list of players.

Prior to your draft, you may customize your auto draft list to rank the players by your preferences. You may customize your draft auto draft list at any time up to and even during your draft. If you do not customize your auto draft list, the auto draft list for the draft will be the player rankings from RealTime Fantasy Sports, as they are listed at the time of your draft.

The auto draft list will be used as a fail-safe backup in case your draft clock expires before you make a pick. In the event you should fail to make a pick in the time allowed, RealTime Fantasy Sports will automatically draft a player for you. The player will be the top ranked player on your auto draft list. Players drafted automatically will be selected from your auto draft list, or from the players in the RTFS rankings without an injury designation if you do not have a list, in a manner that will fill out your team's starting lineup before the end of the draft. In order to prevent auto drafted teams from having too many players at any one position, positional maximums are configured and can be adjusted by each team. Should the draft clock expire on a team in two consecutive rounds in a draft or one round in an 8-hour slow draft, the system will set the team to auto-draft until disabled by a team owner. Auto draft selections will stand and will not be reversed.

RTFS reserves the right to pause a draft to contact players who have failed to enter the draft on time. RTFS reserves the right to correct draft mistakes within a reasonable timeframe.

Rookie / Free Agent Draft

Every year after the inaugural season, a Rookie / Free Agent draft ("dynasty draft") will begin on the 1st Saturday of March. The actual date will be published on the league home page and notifications sent to all teams. The dynasty draft will be a straight line draft and not serpentine. For example,

  • Round 1: Team1, Team2, Team3, Team4, Team5, Team6, Team7, Team8, Team9, Team10, Team11, Team12
  • Round 2: Team1, Team2, Team3, Team4, Team5, Team6, Team7, Team8, Team9, Team10, Team11, Team12
  • Round 3: Team1, Team2, Team3, Team4, Team5, Team6, Team7, Team8, Team9, Team10, Team11, Team12

The dynasty draft order will be determined by the previous year's regular season finish and lottery. This will be determined on or before December 1st each year. Draft picks one (1) through eight (8) will be determined via lottery of the teams failing to make the previous year's playoffs. Draft picks 9 through 12 will be determined by reverse order of finish based on the previous year's final regular season points standings.

Each team will have 8 hours per pick, with overnight pause, to draft a player. There will be 12 rounds to the draft. Draft pick trading is allowed.

Prior to your draft, you may customize your auto draft list to rank the players by your preferences. You may customize your draft auto draft list at any time up to and even during your draft. If you do not customize your auto draft list, the auto draft list for the draft will be the player rankings from RealTime Fantasy Sports as they are listed at the time of your draft.

The auto draft list will be used as a fail-safe backup in case your draft clock expires before you make a pick. In the event you should fail to make a pick in the time allowed, RealTime Fantasy Sports will automatically draft a player for you. The player will be the top ranked player on your auto draft list. Players drafted automatically will be selected from your auto draft list, or from the RTFS rankings without an injury designation if you do not have a list, in a manner that will fill out your team's starting lineup before the end of the draft.

Teams

Player Pools

Contest leagues will always be a mixed player pools, meaning players from both leagues.

Position Eligibility

Prior to the draft, all players eligible to be drafted will be published in the official player eligibility list. The list will identify each players' qualifying positions as of the start of the season. The position eligibility on that list will be based on the following criteria and is considered final:

  • Position players (non-pitchers) qualify at any position at which they appeared at least 10 times in the major leagues in the preceding season. If a player did not appear in 10 games at any position, or did not appear the prior season in the majors at all, he qualifies at his primary position as determined by our stats provider or as assigned by RealTime Fantasy Sports. If a player sat out the previous year for any reason, his eligibility will be determined by his primary position as set by our stats provider or as assigned by RealTime Fantasy Sports.
  • Position eligibility as a Middle Infielder (MI), Corner Infielder (CI) or Utility Infielder (UI) is obtained automatically if already eligible at a corresponding positon, e.g. a player eligible at 2B or SS is automatically eligible at MI, a player eligible at 1B or 3B is automatically eligible at CI.
  • Designated Hitter is considered a position. A player who only qualifies as a DH may only be assigned to the Utility Player position.
  • Any players whose primary position is Starting Pitcher or Relief Pitcher will become eligible as Pitchers as soon as they are on an active major league roster.
  • Shohei Ohtani shall have Starting Pitcher and Utility Hitter eligibility. He can be entered into a team's starting lineup each week as either a Pitcher or a Hitter, but not both in the same week. Any additional MLB players that are utilized in both a hitter and a pitcher role, will be treated the same as Ohtani, but RTFS will generally only give them a dual role before the season starts and not mid-season. Also, as with all players, dual role players can qualify for additional positions through the season if they play enough games at a position. As with all pitchers, no hitting statistics will be accumulated while in a team's starting lineup as a pitcher. Similarly, while in the starting lineup as a hitter, no pitching statistics will be accumulated.
  • Position players who play 10 games at a new position in the current season will be eligible at that position after they have played there for the 10th time during the current MLB regular season.
  • Final player eligibility designation is at the sole discretion of RealTime Fantasy Sports.

Roster Composition

Each team will consist of an in-season roster of 40 players and an off-season roster of up to 45 players. The additional players are to facilitate potential unbalanced trades during the off-season. Team owners are free to choose the player position mix of the players on their roster. There are no restrictions on the number of players at any position that may be on a team's roster. Owners are not required to have a minimum number of players at any position on their roster. For example, an owner could choose not to have a catcher on their roster.

Injured List

Each team shall have 5 Injured List (IL) slots available on their roster. IL slots will not count against the roster cap of 30/40 players. Players listed on the official MLB injury list as 15-day, 60-day, 7-day (concussion), Paternity, Bereavement, Suspended, and Restricted will be eligible to be moved to an IL slot. Injury designations will be strictly per the official MLB injury report.

Should a player be removed or reactivated on the official MLB injury list, the team owner shall have until the start of that week's games to activate the player. This will be done on the first day of each league week (generally Monday) Owners failing to do so shall have the player activated and an arbitrary player dropped by the league commissioner. For returning leagues, all players must be removed from IL by the February cut down date.

Weekly Lineups

The Contest uses a single starting lineup for each team per week. A week runs from Monday's games through Sunday's games. Team owners may start or bench a player for the current week up until the beginning of the first game for that player that week. After that time that player is locked and cannot be started or benched. In addition, lineup changes are allowed one week in advance.

Each team's roster and lineup will consist of a maximum of:

  • 40 Players Spots
  • 22 Total Starters
  • 1 Catcher
  • 1 First Baseman
  • 1 Second Baseman
  • 1 Third Baseman
  • 1 Shortstop
  • 1 Corner Infielder (1B or 3B)
  • 1 Middle Infielder (2B or SS)
  • 5 Outfielders
  • 1 Utility Player (any hitter)
  • 9 Pitchers
  • 18 Reserves
Free Agents

Waiver Wire

Free agents will be awarded using a blind bidding system. Each team will receive 1000 blind bidding "dollars" for use in bidding on free agents. Once a team has exhausted their blind bidding dollars they will not be able to acquire additional free agents. The minimum bid on any free agent is one "dollar". Team owners may bid on free agents they wish to acquire for the next week via the waiver wire beginning each Monday morning of the season.

Player requests must be submitted by 11:59pm ET on Sunday of each week of the season. Player awards will be shortly after.

If your league draft completes before the Sunday prior to Opening Day, your league will have a preseason waiver wire the first Sunday prior to Opening Day. If your league draft finishes on or after the Sunday prior to Opening Day you will not have a preseason waiver wire period.

In the event that 2 or more teams bid the same amount for a player, the team with the lowest league standing will be awarded the player. Any league standing ties are subsequently broken by team batting average, with the team having the lowest batting average being awarded the player. For the preseason waiver wire and leagues using an online draft, the team with the latest position in the draft order will be awarded the player. For the preseason waiver wire and leagues using an online auction, the team nominating last will be awarded the player.

After the preseason waiver wire completes, only players listed as active by our stats provider or previously active and now on the DL will be available as free agents.

Unrestricted Free Agent Period

After the waiver wire completes, an unrestricted free agent period will open at 10:00am ET on Monday and will close when the first game starts that week or Monday at 11:59pm ET which ever comes first. All players picked up during the unrestricted free agent period will cost $1 against the team's Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB).

MLB Rookie Draft and International Signings

Players selected in the MLB Draft and players signed during the International Signings period will not be available as free agents in the season they are drafted or signed. They will not be available until the following year's fantasy league Rookie and Free Agent draft.

Trades

Direct owner to owner trading of players, draft picks and future draft picks is permitted. Trades may involve an uneven number of players, but all teams must remain under the roster limit of players to execute the trade. During the Dynasty League off-season, rosters are increased so that uneven trades may take place.

Trades will execute as soon as the second party agrees to the trade. There will be no trade reversal votes for owners, including in draft trades.

Once the season starts, teams will be able to trade future draft picks for the following season. Future first round draft picks are only eligible to be traded away once the team is renewed for the season the draft pick is in.

Trading will be suspended during the fantasy playoffs. After the conclusion of the regular season, teams whose entry fee for the following year or years is paid may resume trading players and draft picks for the following year(s).

Team owners are allowed to renew their dynasty teams for up to 3 years in advance. Team's future draft picks (including first round) can be traded for all seasons a team is renewed.

In the interest of fair play, RealTime Fantasy Sports reserves the right to reverse any trade deemed collusion or anti-competive. We understand, as every team owner should, that dynasty league trades are in the eye of the beholder and some trades may help one team this year and not help the other team until years later. Trades such as these are not necessarily anti-competive. Team owners will have the opportunity to manage their team as they see fit. The threshold for reversing trades is high. However, teams engaged in anti-competitive trades may have their trading privileges suspended and may face loss of their resale deposit. Owners may submit a protest of an unfair trade to RealTime Fantasy Sports. Protests must be submitted within 24 hours of the trade execution and must contain specifics of the protest. Submission of a protest does not mean the trade will be reversed. All RealTime Fantasy Sports decisions to allow or reverse trades are final.

Rotisserie Style Rules

Scoring System

Points are awarded to each team according to the team's order of finish in each of 5 hitting and 5 pitching statistical categories (5x5 Rotisserie). Your team's total score for the season is a combination of points your team has been awarded in each statistical category.

For 10-team leagues, the top team in a statistical category will receive 10 points, the second place team will receive 9 points, down the line with the last place team in a statistical category receiving 1 point. Not all leagues are 10-team leagues; but the top team in a statistical category will receive the same number of points as the number of teams in the league, and down the line to last place receiving 1 point. If two or more teams tie for a position in any statistical category each team will receive the average number of points for tied positions. For instance, if two teams in a 10-team league tie for second and third place in a statistical category each of the tied teams will receive (9 + 8) / 2 = 8.5 points for that category.

Players statistics shall be statistics accumulated at the major league level. For players in NL-only or AL-only leagues, if a player is traded or otherwise acquired by a team in the other league, you will continue to accumulate statistics for that player so long as they remain on your roster for that season. If that player is dropped from your roster that player will no longer be available in that league. For example, if you are in an AL-only league and Mike Trout is on your roster when traded from the Angels to the Cardinals mid-season, you would continue to accumulate statistics for Trout this season as long as you do not drop him, even though he is in the NL. The statistical categories are listed below:

Hitting:

  • Runs Scored
  • Home Runs
  • Runs Batted In
  • Stolen Bases
  • Team On Base Percentage

Pitching:

  • Wins
  • Team Earned Run Average
  • Saves
  • Strikeouts
  • Team WHIP

The statistical categories are defined as:

Team On-Base Percentage (OBP) - Computed using the total of all at-bats, walks, hit by pitch, and sacrifice flies of all hitters in the starting lineup of your team. This not an average of the OBPs of the players on your team. On-base percentage is calculated as (Hits + Walks + Hit by Pitch) / (At Bats + Walks + Hit by Pitch + Sacrifice Flies). Reaching base by error or fielder's choice is not considered a hit. If a player hits safely but is out trying to get an extra base on the same play, it is still considered a hit.

Runs Batted In (RBI) - Cumulative total of runs batted in for all hitters in the starting lineup of your team. A player is credited with an RBI when the outcome of his at-bat results in a run being scored, except in certain situations such as when an error is made on the play or a forced double play is turned.

Home Runs (HR) - Cumulative total of home runs hit by all hitters in the starting lineup of your team.

Stolen Bases (SB) - Cumulative total of bases stolen by all hitters in the starting lineup of your team.

Runs Scored (R) - Cumulative total of all runs scored hit by all hitters in the starting lineup of your team.

Team Earned Run Average (ERA) - Computed using the combined innings pitched and earned runs allowed by all pitchers in the starting lineup of your team. This is not an average of the ERAs of the pitchers on your team. It is determined by dividing the number of earned runs allowed by the number of innings pitched and multiplying by nine. Runs resulting from batters who reach base on an error (even a pitcher error) and later score are called unearned runs, and do not count toward ERA.

Wins (W) - Cumulative total of wins by all pitchers in the starting lineup of your team. In each game, one pitcher on the winning team is awarded a win as the pitcher of record. Only one pitcher for each game receives a win. Wins are awarded by the official scorer of the game in accordance with MLB rules.

Saves (S) - Cumulative total of saves by all pitchers in the starting lineup of your team. A save is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain prescribed circumstances. Only one pitcher for each game receives a save. Saves are awarded by the official scorer of the game in accordance with MLB rules.

Strikeouts (K) - Cumulative total of strikeouts by all pitchers in the starting lineup of your team.

Team WHIP (WHIP) - Computed using the combined innings pitched, hits allowed, and walks by all pitchers in the starting lineup of your team. This is not an average of the WHIPs of the pitchers on your team. WHIP is calculated by adding the number of walks and hits allowed and dividing this sum by the number of innings pitched.

In all hitting categories the hitting statistics of your pitchers do NOT count toward your team totals. Hitting statistics of pitchers are ignored in all leagues. Additionally, all pitching statistics for hitters are ignored in all leagues.

In NL-Only and AL-Only leagues, each fantasy team's pitching staff must accumulate a minimum of 600 innings pitched for the season. In all other rotisserie leagues, the minimum is 900 innings pitched. Any team with less than the required minimum innings pitched shall automatically be placed last in the Team ERA and Team WHIP scoring categories and the other teams will move up in those categories. Should two or more teams have less than the required minimum innings pitched the team with the fewest innings pitched shall be placed last in Team ERA and Team WHIP categories, with the team pitching the next fewest innings being placed in second to last, and so on with each team receiving the points designated for that scoring position.

If a league begins play after the first week of the MLB season, the required minimum innings pitched will be pro-rated.

Fantasy team standings shall be based on total points scored of each fantasy team. The team with the most points accumulated from the 5 hitting and 5 pitching categories shall be in first place in the league. The team scoring the fewest points will be in last place in the league.

Statistics for games that are rained out or otherwise postponed for any reason, including but not limited to work stoppage, facilities, natural disaster, disease, or terrorism, will be applied to the week in which the game is played. The statistics for postponed games will not be applied to the week the game was originally scheduled. If a postponed game is not made up or cancelled, no statistics for that game will be accumulated. RealTime Fantasy Sports reserves the right to adjust the fantasy baseball season to match any changes in the length or schedule of the Major League Baseball season such as a late start, mid-season pause or shortened season.

At the conclusion of the season the team scoring the most points for the season shall be declared the league champion. The team scoring the second most points for the season shall be declared 2nd place in the league, and so on for however many places get paid out in the game. Should two or more teams be tied for the top position with the same number of points for the fantasy season, the team with highest

  • Team On Base Percentage for the season shall be declared the league champion. The team having the second highest
  • Team On Base Percentage shall then be declared the second place team in the league. Should two more teams tie for 2nd place in a league, the team with the highest
  • Team On Base Percentage for the season shall be declared the 2nd place team in the league, and so on for however many places get paid out in the game.
  • Statistics Reporting

Scores and statistics are updated immediately as they are received from our statistics provider. Some events beyond RTFS' control can make this time longer. RealTime Fantasy Sports is not responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of the statistics.

Because the statistics are updated "live", some errors may occur. If so, statistical errors are usually corrected by our stats provider during the course of the day, but may take up to 24 hours to be corrected. If an error occurs and is not corrected by our provider, RTFS will correct the stat ourselves, but only if it is overwhelmingly obvious that the stat is in error. If there is any doubt about the validity of the stat, RTFS will maintain the statistic given by its provider.

All statistics for a game are deemed final at midnight ET seven (7) days following the day of completion of the game. The additional statistics from suspended games will be applied after game completion. RTFS still reserves the right to change any statistic for any player at any time for any unforeseen reason.

In all leagues, no statistics from any exhibition game (such as the MLB All-Star game) or one-game end of the season tie breaker games shall be used. In non-playoff leagues, no statistics from any playoff game shall be used.

RealTime Fantasy Sports is not responsible for any inaccuracies, representations, statements, graphics or content of materials that are uploaded onto its servers and website from other vendors, including but not limited to the Major League Baseball, SportRadar, and users, members, subscribers, customers or participants.

    Season

    Fantasy Season

For leagues drafting before first pitch of Opening Day, the season will begin with the regular season games on Opening Day. For leagues drafting after first pitch of Opening Day, the league will begin play with the Monday games immediately following the draft. The season ends for all leagues after the conclusion of the last scheduled regular season game of the MLB season. Tie-breaker games after the end of the scheduled regular season will not be used in the Contest.

Statistics from the South Korea Series games March 20th and 21st between the Dodgers and Padres will count as Week 1 stats in all leagues that begin in MLB Week 1. Please draft with this knowledge.

The MLB All-Star game and any playoff games are not included in The Contest. The partial week before the season starts, and the partial week after the MLB All-Star break will each be full fantasy weeks.

If any MLB team should play sixty (60) or more regular season games, the season shall be considered a viable fantasy season. Should the MLB season end early for any circumstance, including but not limited to work stoppage, facilities, natural disaster, disease, or terrorism, the contest will end when Major League Baseball cancels the remainder of of the season. At that time winners will be declared and prizes awarded in accordance with the league standings. The minimum innings requirement will be prorated or waived if the season is shortened.

The fantasy baseball season will mirror the MLB season as closely as possible. The fantasy season will be adjusted to match any later than normal start or a fantasy season shorter than 162 games.

    League Champion

At the conclusion of the season, the team scoring the most points for the season shall be declared the league champion ("Winner"). The team scoring the second most points for the season shall be declared 2nd place ("2nd Place") in the league. Should two or more teams be tied for the top position with the same number of points for the fantasy season, the team with highest team batting average for the season shall be declared the league champion. The team having the second highest team batting average for the season shall then be declared the second place team in the league. Should two or more teams tie for 2nd place in a league, the team with the second highest team batting average for the season shall be declared the 2nd place team in the league. And so on for however many places get paid out in this contest. The declared winners will be finalized when the last week's stats have been declared final, typically the Thursday following the season.

Teams are allowed to have players on the league's Disabled List, but only if the players are still eligible for the Disabled List - players no longer injured must be removed by this cut down deadline. Teams failing to cut their rosters will have them cut by the commissioner.

RTFS will make the best reasonable effort to maximize the sale value of the team. The initial resale deposit will be refunded if the abandoned team is sold for the full annual entry fee. If the team sells for less than the annual entry fee, the owner's intial resale deposit shall be used to cover the difference between the sale price and the annual entry fee, with any remaining balance refunded.

Any team offered for sale may be purchased immediately for the contest entry fee. Teams will not be sold for more than the contest entry fee.

All sales are final. When a buyer commits to buy a team by placing a winning auction bid, they are obligated to complete the purchase. By placing a bid the buyer is authorizing RealTime Fantasy Sports to process payment for the bid should it be the winning bid.

    Sportsmanship and Decency

    Sportsmanship

By registering, you agree to abide by the general sportsmanship rules set forth in these rules and fantasy games in general. You further agree to accept and abide by the rulings and the decisions of RealTime Fantasy Sports regarding all questions of sportsmanship. Sportsmanship broadly includes actions such as abusive postings and communication, colluding with other teams in the league, deliberately choosing to start incomplete or weak lineups, free agent moves for reasons other than improvement of the owner's fantasy team, and any other actions not conducive to decent, fair, and honest play. If an owner refuses to comply with the sportsmanship rules, or that an owner has acted in an unsportsmanlike manner, RealTime Fantasy Sports reserves the right to disqualify the owner and/or remove that owner from the league without a refund. All decisions by RealTime Fantasy Sports will be final.

    Inappropriate, Offensive, or Commercial Communication

The league message boards, league news and league email are provided to facilitate communication with other league owners and enhance the enjoyment of your league. RealTime Fantasy Sports does not permit posting or sending messages or images, to include logos, avatars and team names that could be construed as offensive to other owners. Appeals

    Accidental Drops

In season long fantasy contests, should a team accidentally drop a player or drop the incorrect player during a free agent transaction, the team may appeal to have the player reinstated to their team. The appeal for reinstatement must occur immediately, without exception. If the appeal is not submitted immediately, for any reason, the appeal will be denied. Submission of an appeal does not guarantee a ruling in favor of the team submitting the appeal. If the team owner is a repeat offender, deemed to be using the appeal to gain an advantage or the appeal is not submitted immediately, the appeal will be denied. RTFS reserves the right to deny any appeal.

    Trades

In leagues that permit trading, owners may request a review of commissioner-approved trades or commissioner-rejected trades. Trade appeals must be submitted immediately after the trade was approved or rejected. If any delay in submission occurs, for any reason, the appeal will be denied. Upon submission of an appeal, the trade will be reviewed by a panel of fantasy experts. Current injuries, bye weeks, season to date performance, team standings, and other factors will be considered. Trades that are overwhelmingly one-sided will be rejected. Trades that are arguably beneficial to both sides or arguably not overwhelmingly one-sided will be allowed to stand. Submission of an appeal does not guarantee a trade will be reversed. RTFS reserves the right to reverse any trade or let any trade stand.
